Super sad theory about caretaker being put in potters field: his mom passed away while he was in prison and she was the only family he had, so he was left there.
It would make sense, if I am recalling the movie correctly, he doesn't really talk about her visiting him or him talking with her besides saying he will visit her when he is out. So very possible she had passed long before and it's why the only photo he has is when he was much younger. Not to mention his talk of visiting her could be talks about visiting her grave. And why they buried him in the Potters field.

Played by Vinnie Jones, a proper hard as nails real life top flight professional player who went on to have a decent career playing thugs, hoods, gangsters in British / US movies and TV series. Two British modern crime movies Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels , and Snatch. Great fun.
In some county jails they fish through the toilets, tying torn up sheets and shirts together with spoons and then flushing to interlock two strings and then being able to pass stuff between like notes and pictures
The stingball grenade is a thing. I studied non-lethal suppression weapons in college and did a paper on the subject. The grenade contains shot or rubber balls and explodes or fragments to deploy them. I believe it works like in the movie: causes people to hit the deck.

I used to deliver freight to the Roxbury prison in Hagerstown md . Larry is right it would take a hour to just get threw the gate. Then everyone asked for cigarettes. We had one driver inside when a inmate went missing I think he was inside for over 6 hours

The location in which the movie was shot is the old New Mexico State Penitentiary in Santa Fe , where the most brutal prison riot in American history took place in 1980. Look it up, it's fascinating. Apparently the prison is VERY haunted.

Morganton Western Youth had guard towers everywhere. And at night time there was at least 6 trucks driving back and forth on the outside. First thing everyone was told when entering that place was, If one of y’all are stupid enough to try to escape be warned that the first shot will be a warning shot with a beanbag shotgun, second one will be a 12 gauge to stop you, third will be a .308 and if you’re still magically running the dogs will be set loose.

He was, I went and saw the cell they kept him in. I know other convicts who worked the mailroom and said he sent are out and it was bat shit crazy.
