The snakeskin made my DD Hammock setup so much easier, great piece of kit. Simple piece of technology solves a genuine problem. May I recommend the DD XL Tarp. It is 3 x 4.5 and that extra 1.5m makes a big difference. If you ever find that it is too much on at the camp then you can configure the size down and reconfigure into a more water tight and wind resistant shape. Great video :-)
Hi Rob, I up sized to snugpak all weather shelter ( tarp ) 3 metre sq. was sick of having wet feet on a morning. you want to invest in some drip rings too, god send!! once you get the hammock/ tarp done right you will never go back to a tent!! ATB Chris
+Wild Camper I would tie a prusik knot between the tree and carabiner just to be safe leave the loop hanging so any water drips off it. I leave 2 loops tied in hammock kit so they are there ready to tie if you need them. It's not worth relying on carabiner alone.
great to see another person starting to use hammocks, i have camped out on a cold night near a ditch that was a bit flooded, and had no problems, tho a tent might have a bath tub floor, it aint going to be nice waking up to being surrounded by water and having to pack the gear up in it, i also have sleeves for my hammock and tarp and they are great and you made a good choice getting a sleeve straight away,
Hello greetings from Spain! I just bought the same DD jungle superlight HAMMOCK. That's good! One question: Should the underblanket be put on before or after the rain coat? Is it easy to put it?
You can put the underblanket on at anytime. I found them to be bad at keeping in heat so use klymite hammock mat now , so much better . I have other videos on that on my channel, cheers Rob
I got a Jungle too, totally agree about the poor finish. At the joins at each end there is loose stitching on the base layers. It's held by a crossover stitch so it will unravel but not go any further than the cross over. But still looks pretty poor and not what I expected for £145! I think if the crossover fails, then it will totally unravel over time and cause the ends to fully split. Also, the Velcro on mine does not align too.
nairnmonster all above I agree with BUT (!) In fairness to them so far it has not let me down 😀 time will tell. If there finish was a bit better I would be v happy . ATB Rob
Wild Camper this is my third DD Hammock. I’m 100% a fan boy. Have a lot of their stuff. This is first one where it’s not been up to their usuals standard. But if the crossover holds then nothing major. And the Velcro seems to line up better when I sort the whooper sling so it’s even. But shouldn’t have too... or maybe I should. Never messaged them to ask haha
nairnmonster there replys from the ladies when I have emailed come across as someone who has never been in a hammock . Shame really, I had super light tarps as well 3 in a row with tears in them ( the pegs rub and create the hole) gave up in the end and kept the third one and used a bit of tenacious tape . 😂
Wild Camper So, I had the issue of the velcro alignment. Kept waking to the mat hanging out the sides due to the velcro having come loose. I contacted DD and was told they have heard of this before. They were going to repair it by extending the velcro. To cut a long story short, now I’m just getting a replacement. I asked if they can open and test the hammock prior to shipping. Waiting on email to confirm this. If the new one comes with the same issue, I will change the velcro myself. Will let you know.
+Wild Camper All good thank you Rob, hope your doing well too. I have my own car now, and been told if it goes in the diary you can go! So catch you later in the year. atb Andy
I've got the pukka Katadyn pocket, the three hundred quid job, bought it secondhand hardly used, wont tell you how much I paid for it and I'm quite but not very impressed. These filters are near enough bomb proof, strurdy strong metal etc etc, will filter around sixty thousand gallons of water before a filter change is needed, but, but, they're only guaranteed to filter out bacteria and not viruses. And, as supplied new, they wont filter out the chemical pollution, you have to buy a little attachment to filter out the chemicals, works well enough though, costs about twenty quid and comes supplied with a couple of active carbon sachets. I'm still using my DD travel hammock that I bought three years back, hasn't been used much but its served me quite well when it was used. Its quite heavy and bulky when packed though, so will look into the DD superlight now. Thanks for your reviews and I hope you had a good Christmas and new year.
Nice filter, really moves some water fast fills there. like the idea of the net keep them bugs off to bad the quality wasn't up a notch thanks for sharing atb John
Glad to see you making good use of the ferro rod and I'm glad you like it! Nice to see you as a hammock hanger too. We should "hang out" sometime soon. The katadyn filter looks awesome as does the coffee drip. I've been looking at those myself as it happens and I still have an Amazon voucher from xmas to make use of so may pick one up soon. Good work mate. Muddy.
cheers Muddy, love the ferro rod and enjoying experimenting with the hammock, will need to pick your brains on how you attach the under blanket etc . I await your call on the next overnighter ;) I look Fwd to that ,
brother I did my research on hammocks D.D. is one of the best I've got the frontline XL you put exercise mat and a mylar blanket in the bottom sleeve and bag in the top and clip another Mylar on the netting and use a 5-8 hour candle lantern hanging inside and you'll be toasty down to 30 degrees or lower fly your tarp in a diamond over your hammock but don't use the corner grommets use the next ones I tie the corners to my webbing that hangs the hammock and use para cord and tie a prussic knot and dangle 3-4 inches of cord for rain run off ...private ,warm ,and protecte if you fly one side alittle higher you can even have a small fire with right wood i love my hammock my Arthritis doesn't let me sleep on the ground as much as I use to.I'm getting me one of the java drips.have you ever tried the Sawyer mini mines great.I'll have my first video up soon check me out if you can peace Pops Bushcraft
I Like that water filter Rob My mate has one of the DD hammocks he brought it 18 months ago and he is well imprests with it sad that thing's can change were production is concerned Great video ATB Keith
Like this video Rob, you treated yourself well over the Christmas break. The under blanket takes a little getting used to, not sure how it's going to work with the hoop system on you hammock. ATB Spenny
The Hammocks have mixed reviews, I like yourself am not really a hammock person but would like one for the odd outing. Not sure myself about the DD ones, thanks for your honest review on this. The Java though looks superb, nice review my friend :) Tim
+savedpurplecat loving the javadrip! I will do a vid when i try the DD for real and see if I get sleep or not! normally I turn a lot while asleep so not sure what will happen in the hammock! Time will tell, ATB Rob
Great video enjoyed the new kit. just so you know I have used the DD under blanket with my ticket to the moon hammock and a artic sleeping bag in winter for the last 3 years in my opinion it is a bag on bit of kit and I have never felt the cold under me. ATB Dog
Good video rob, I have been looking at the dd front line hammock as hennesy? hammocks are way out of my price range, I have there 3x3 tarp and it's bomb proof, even high end priced gear these days seem to have problems quality wise that I have seen, sign of the times I think, so looking forward to your upcoming videos on the dd lot, cheers craig
I wonder if there is some reason for the Velcro not lining up ! I did look at the xl but it was a toss up between that and the jungle. If our paths ever cross at a meet I would be interested to see the xl . Cheer's Rob
+Wild Camper I can't see many differences between the two from looking at your video Rob - I did erect it in my living room today (don't tell the wife) and it seemed massive and roomy - I didn't try it out as my speaker wall brackets probably wouldn't take my lump. Lol I've got two days off now so I'm hoping to post a vid on my channel this week. Mike
Your message isn't really that clear. But if you mean do I need to boil water after useing the filter then no it is not required to boil it once filtered thru the katadyn.

When I was a kid I had a jungle hammock from the marine corps and I haven't found one snice, the newer version not as good...
how do you find yours ? what way is it better or worse?

For the price I would expect them to be perfect. Oh, their water bladders all leak. I forgot about that.

Not sure if I am keen on any sort of flame inside my hammock especially enclosed due to fumes and fire risk.
That was a fun watch cheers

Hi, how do you hang one on a regular hammock? I can't help feel the way I hung it was wrong :) Cheers Spenny !
+Wild Camper have a little look on my Facebook spencer Hunt I have some photos on there.
I use 3 mm Shock cord
+Tammockman ok will check that out , thanks v much :)
if you use a 3x3 tarp with a hammock try setting it up in a diamond shape
yeah must do that on the next camp atb Rob
