I bought a Westinghouse ecoGen10000 inverter about three months ago. 2300 sqft home for 8 hours on a test run through the 50amp port. Zero flicker except for a slight dimming every time the central AC unit would kick on. Two fridges, three TVs, two computers (one a power hungry gaming PC) all ran fine. The only thing I didn't run was the dryer, because it's huge a huge power draw. But I could have easily turned off central AC in the evening hours to have the needed power to run the dryer.... Our stove is gas as is our hot water heater, otherwise would have probably gone with a 12,000w model. Our average pull with the central AC running is only about 5600w

If you want a generator for home backup where you might have outages sue to hurricanes of widespread destruction you HAVE to have a dual or tri fuel generator. After a hurricane first gasoline and then perhaps natural gas might become unavailable . Relying solely on gasoline (which can't be stored indefinitely) seems foolish. Propane can be stored indefinitely but you need either lots of 20lb tanks, or several larger tanks or one BIG tank to hold the propane. Natural gas does not require you to store the fuel yourself but in an earthquake its possible that natural gas distribution might be interrupted or damaged. I have a smaller Champion 4500 watt dual fuel inverter generator that I like, and 4 20lb tanks rhat should be able to to power the basics for 3 or 4 days. I'm disappointed to see that Champion atill doesn't offer a tri-fuel whole house oprion, but does have an 8500/7000 watt gas/propane model (currently about $1,900 on Amazon). Perhaps Champion does not want to compete with its own line of dedicated non-portable home backup generators with poertables that can run off natural gas?
Using an inverter mean using less fuel. We only burn about 7 gallsons/day with a Predator 9500. In our experience, gas is only hard to get for 2-3 days after a hurricane. I'll get 20 gallons in advance of a hurricane, to be a good starting position. Also, fuel up our vehicles. In Winter Storm Uri (2021) the natural gas supply was the problem. Gas wells froze up, which took generation offline.
The days of gasoline powered generators only are coming to an end. When disasters happen like Hurricane Helen. You won't find any gasoline or propane. You can't stock pile them either. Don't rely on plugging into home natural gas line when disasters happen. There's no guarantees you'll have natural gas flowing. The best options are to have multiple sources of electricity. I would start with a dual fuel inverter generator. Solar power station with minimum of 1800w inverter/2000wh battery capacity. Portable 400w solar panel or fixed 400w solar panel. If the power is out for days or even weeks. To conserve fuel during long outages like a week or two. Use the solar power station for 90% of your needs. The calculation is that the one hour run time of the gas generator equals 10 hours of electricity with the solar power station. Most power stations will charge to 100% from zero in one hour. You will not be able to find gasoline during emergency disasters.
Solar will not run our AC unit enough of the day during a Texas summer. A neighbor has solar and 2x Tesla powerwalls and they could not run their AC adequately after Hurricane Beryl. We know our home need 90 kWh /day during the peak summer heat. After Hurricane Ike in 2008 utility power was out for two weeks. Gasoline was only hard to get for a couple of days. Then it got easier. Natural gas is more convenient.
@@MichaelGraves3304 In North Carolina after the hurricane Helena, the power is expected to be out for a few more weeks. They're deploying solar panels and power stations. Don't rely on natural gas. They'll shut it down if they detect any leaks. The damage could be miles from your home. You're not supposed to cool the whole house. You're supposed to pick one room so you can close off from the rest of the house. The one room is used as an escape from the heat. 5-10kwh should be plenty to cool the room all day. The solar panels should keep up with ease You have to conserve and ration the use of the electricity like gold.
@@wt9653 "Supposed?" that's implies a moral judgement. I bought a very costly, high-efficiency, variable speed AC unit specifically so I could run it from a modest inverter. Our property does not lend itself to solar. 100+ year old neighborhood. Too small a house. Too much mature tree cover. You work out whatever strategy works for you.

In North Carolina after the hurricane Helena, the power is expected to be out for a few more weeks.
The solar panels should keep up with ease
You have to conserve and ration the use of the electricity like gold.
I've lived in Hurricane Alley for 30 years. Many big storms. Time enough to arrive at a plan that works for us.

Yes! Do what works for you.
I have weeks worth of electricity without the Sunshine. With the Sun shining, I have a limitless amount of electricity. My house has been on solar power for 3 years straight.
Gavin, in your opinion which of these is the most reliable?
Most are really reliable the problem is most of my folks won't maintain and service their Generator.
Where is the Champion Duel fuel 8500 inverter ?
What's the price
🤦🏽♂️😵💫😅
If you are looking for quality and longevity than Yamaha followed by Honda, the rest are a distant third place.
You forgot the predator
He already did that on another video.
Ooooo the Honda eu7000 didn’t make the team this season 😢
It made the 7000 lineup
I BOUGHT A GENMAX 9,500 AND IT BLEW UP AFTER 40 HOURS ! OUT OF WARRANTY ! WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER !
Can I ask you what percentage of the power meter it ran at majority of the time?
Did you run it at 50 or closer to 100%?
@@GeneratorReviews I did everything i was supposed to do , i puchased special break in oil , broke the gen in correctly , no ethanol fuel etc etc, the plastic fuel selector switch was the first thing to fail , it stripped around the third use, the gen ran under all conditions , low output, medium output , max output etc . then during hurricane idilia it just shut down , tried to restart it after unplugging the 50 amp plug and the gen would barely turn over , sounds like it had great pressure or duress, checked oil etc , everything as it should be , took it to small engine repair shop , i have used several times, the said either thegen part or the engine was blown uop , they offered to tear it appart but said either way it wasent worth it in their opinion , so i brought it back home and now i have a $2,000 dollar paperweight !! im pissed
it is the duel fuel model
I’ll subscribe when you do a video on rv onboard generator or how to fit one of these in.
Wow you will only need 400 worth of fuel to run for a week.
Or $85 on natural gas
Pulsar is garbage! Literally took brand new generator out of box and wouldn’t work! Customer service also trash.
Sorry to hear that where did you buy your generator from?
I would love to see someone review the new Firman 5500 generator/inverter - MODEL: WT05571
TRI FUEL INVERTER PORTABLE GENERATOR 6850W ELECTRIC START. For a tri fuel it seems to hit a sweet spot for weight and out puts
