For some reason Beck almost never does Farewell Ride live. Like he literally hasn't done Farewell Ride live in almost 15 years, and even before then he barely did it. Didn't even do it live on the Guero tours apparently. So yeah, this recording is probably one of the only live recordings of Farewell Ride, and it's not even the actual song, but more like a prototype/demo version from 2001.

Elliott Smith, his longtime friend, died (Beck even later gave a tribute to him after his death). Given the lyrics, tone and timing... I can see why it might be a hitting a little to close to home to play that song.
