At the very least him and SEGA don't have any bad blood from that and now we have things like Sonic and Tails R to show that Ryan still cares about voicing Sonic and on top of that he's still amazing!
The time eater is easily one of if not the worst final boss in the series & the only part of the game where they dropped the ball. Also no mention on the surprise appearance of classic Robotnik at the end?
@@spontman Aside from Sonic’s friends constantly talking the fight is janky, Super sonic is stiff to control making it difficult to avoid attacks & pick up rings. The thing is constantly flying away from you & there’s so many times where you reach it only for it to jump miles away. The fight isn’t based on skill, just whether the game lets you hit it. Then there’s the charge up attack you can do with classic sonic which serves very little purpose, you’d think to use it when the homing redicle appears on the time eaters core to use it as it’s mapped to the same button as the homing attack, but it doesn’t do anything. The least of its problems is it feels anticlimactic compared to other final bosses to, the music is just the time eater theme we’ve heard through the game repeatedly (though this can be changed using the music selection after you’ve beaten it). Ironically the 3DS version of the fight is way better & what it should’ve been. It’s structured way better & feels fair.

I much prefer the Unleashed boost over the Generations boost. You can see a lot of videos swapping the Generations boost for the Unleashed boost. I just think Frontiers' boost is better in open world scenarios, but other than that Unleashed's is perfect.
Despite it not being perfect(The controls feel awkward while going slow at times), Sonic Generations manages to iron out most of the issues of its predecesors very well and I love it for that.
Sonic generations is my favorite Sonic game. I was really excited to see your opinion on the game, and I'm happy that you liked it! I'm just curious to know what is your thoughts on the OST, if I'm not wrong you didn't talk about it. This OST is one of my favorites of the franchise (only behind Unleashed and Adventure 1)
I talked about it a bit. I love it, a lot of the remixes here are the best versions of their original tracks, and even when they aren't, they almost always stand on their own.
I tried replaying it and... It was... Fine. Classic feels kinda gross and the game feels too short. Challenges can be kinda cool even if half of them feel uninspired. Overall, it's not that addictive. At least not for me.
Personally Gens is a step down in terms of boost gameplay for me but it’s definitely the 2nd best boost game and i disagree with just about everything you’ve said about it compared to Unleashed. Plus… I honestly believe Gens is highly overrated. There’s a lot about the game I absolutely hate and the only fun I get out of it are the act 2 stages. The act 1 stages, although well designed, the enjoyability is dampened by the input lag (I play on console) and some other things
I wasn't able to give this game a proper shot (I plan to in the future some time) so I don't have much to comment on when it comes to gameplay. I don't have a lot to say about the music either due to me not being super passionate about this ost. Although one complaint I have with the music is just how lack luster and boring the music playing during the time eater boss is, it would have been perfect if there was a Crush 40 song playing that was similar to their song Sonic Youth.
I do regret not mentioning the music for the Time Eater. A lot of people say the boss lacks spectacle, but I think all it needed was more energetic music.
None of the level designers from Gens were in Forces. It was like three dudes, and only one worked on colors. They also had one year to design 30+ levels and they had virtually zero experience designing levels...like at all. They probably had less experience than your average mario maker player. Sega just lied in their marketing basically.
Sonic Generations is a good game but it’s slightly overrated. There’s barely any story, no new levels, and a horrible final boss. I do like the gameplay and the missions though.
I would not say its better than unleashed or colors because 2D platforming does feel 10 times better in Colors and the sense of speed in 3D section is still more present in unleashed I think they tried to blend both together but in the result we got less interesting stages at least for me
I have the habit of rewriting bad Sonic scripts/stories for fun, and I had this idea for Generations where instead of having an in-universe story, it becomes meta as those Bugs Bunny/Simpsons retrospective or special episodes. Sonic is ready to break the four wall and take us down memory lane literally with a collection of the best games locations, when Tails stop him on his tracks to inform him their friends went missing. The final boss would still be Time Eater, but instead of the eggmen piloting it, its Alex fking Kidd gone mad because he's been irrelevant ever since Sonic became Sega's mascot. He went stealing every iconic Sonic moment so he never blew up in popularity over him. Classic Sonic is his 90s incarnation, Jaleel White and all. He's both from the past AND another dimention, but its never explained why he looks and talks so differently, all the characters just referred to him as Sonic before the.. "glow-up✨". It's implied to be some kind of plastic surgery or intervention which mostly everyone also has been through, but its never further explained to the audience. If they wanted to be meta they should've been all out with it, I personally don't mind one-off goofy stories on Sonic games or media, I think cartoons like Boom and aoSth, or games like Colors can exist sometimes, they just need to be well written.
Sorry to offend anyone, but Sonic Generations is an "eh" game. The story is annoying and the gameplay? Well, that speaks for itself, cause of the glitches.
Yeah, it felt very wonky at times. It’s a shame because I love the ideas and presentation in the game. It’s just the stiff controls and wonkiness make it unfun sometimes. And that final boss was unforgivably bad.
@@JoseGregorioValeroVillarroel Theres some game breaking glitch were if you run too fast in the loop de loop, you'll glitch into it and your character dies for seemingly for no reason. Happened multiple times in my playthrough.
Personally I believe this game is vastly overrated. Though it has solid level design, aestheics&visuals, and soundtrack, I can't help but recognise the awful controls. i think especially after Shadow generations, the controls of sonic gens can be seen as way worse. Sonic is heavy as a brick, so stiff, and is simply atrocious for 3D and 2D platforming. Ever realise how the best levels in generations are the more linear, typical boost2win unleashed style levels? Right, the game doesn't play well when it tries to do platforming like the adventure games or even sonic colors(looking at sky sanctuary, and planet wisp). When a Sonic game fails at platforming, it's not a good title. Not to mention its HORRIBLE ranking system, weird classic sonic physics, bland narrative and terrible final bossfight. . . This is far from a classic.
The levels are designed very well for how he controls here. This feels like kind of a weird personal nitpick to completely tear the game down over. There is very little precision platforming here for his controls when moving slow to even matter in the grand scheme of things. Generations very much goes down the action game route more than it goes for being a pure platformer. Even classic Sonics levels tend to be more reaction based like Sonic 2.
@@RobBlu-d6u You'd be wrong. Sky sanctuary, crisis city, planet wisp, and to some extent seaside hill ALL revolve around being designed like a platformer, which doesn't work well with these controls. Also sonic being more of an action game than platformer as a MAIN title isn't a good idea. Sonic 2 had speed and action, but it was a platformer first and foremost. If anything classic sonic games are more about memorisation than action.
Hot take: Sonic Generations is so overrated. Don’t get me wrong, I like it, but I don’t think it holds up that well when compared to other games in the series. While the boost formula is implemented fine in Generations, the level design is inferior to Unleashed, with all the levels except Planet Wisp being able to be beat in 2 minutes or less. The ranking system is atrocious, literally handing out free S ranks just for not dying. Even Colors has a better ranking system than Generations. The game is also about 75% 2D as the Modern Sonic levels have a bunch of 2D sections, especially Planet Wisp. The story is awful, they should’ve done a better job at taking a deep dive into Sonic’s history considering that this is his 20th anniversary game. Finally, the final boss fight is underwhelming compared to other final bosses like the Final Hazard, Solaris, and Perfect Dark Gaia just to name a few. Like I said, I like Generations, it’s a good game, but not as great as Adventure 2, Unleashed, and Frontiers. I would even say that Sonic 06 (if you ignore all the bugs and glitches) is better than Generations.
