i have been looking at the first strike/no know fear/dark imperium starters for the latest addition. am i correct in thinking this is a similar box but with different armies that are never featured in starter sets?
QuietNick Yes, you are correct. Dark Imperium is a more expensive box, but that's because it actually comes with the big hardcover rulebook. This box only comes with a sheet of core rules, so if this is your first time getting into the hobby, and you would like to continue with the armies you get in this box, your going to want to get the armies codexes and the full rulebook. If you agents sure wether you want to get into the hobby, first strike is a good option. Very cheap and gives you a taste of what the game is like. But, if you do like the armies you see in this box, and you like their lore and all that, you should go for it.

I'm also gonna grab one of the Warmachine starters and try that out. Any experience with that one?

Now you're the second gunpla youtuber that started doing 40K content after I started with 40K myself. The video format is great for Warhammer minis since usually no one shows off the models in such detail! I think every Gunpla geek should check out the hobby, it's super fun to paint the minis!

Some starter sets are actually quite worth it when concidering a price per singular miniature in the box (depending on where you buy of course), personally I wouldn't mind paying e.g. 40€ for a box set containing ~20 miniatures, so technically 2€ per miniature and some other stuff like rule books, dies and other stuff that comes with starter sets. Also, if you're in just for collecting and painting like me, some older kits can be found with quite good prices with similar "euro or two per singular miniature" which in my eyes is not much of an overprice given the quality of the miniatures and how they're not that easily broken even with how fragile some of the parts seem, and how detailed they really are. Even some older vehicle kits don't seem to be much pricier than more general stuff like Tamiya vehicle model kits. Of course, I'm just talking about my local game/hobby stores.
ebay is your friend, plus, like gunpla, you can customized to what you want so you can buy pieces from different sets to build your army. only people getting the straight sets would end up spending a bit too much.

Choatemister don't let that stop you. I'm garbage at painting, but I'm slowly getting better over the years. Plus, with citadel paints, getting really cool effects like rust or blood splatter is as easy as buying the right wash.
I will never get in Warhammer, I'm already broke enough from damn Gunpla. The figures are really cool to look at though, and at least I know I won't be tempted enough to buy them unlike the Gunpla you review, so go ahead and keep making this kind of video lol.
Getting into miniature wargaming was the worst hobby decision I've ever made. The majority of models are grossly overpriced for what you get and 9 out of 10 games are utter crap stuck in perennial early access. And Games Workshop is the worst. Overdesigned, tacky miniatures and braindead rules extremely heavy on randomness. My advice is to stay away and stick with gunpla, at least you get your money's worth, and without having to stress out over broken game rules and nonexistent balance.
I'm new to miniatures and at the moment I stick to the modelling aspect of the hobby and avoid playing in totality. I've been collecting Tau, Necron, and Primaris miniatures and damn, transitioning from Gunpla to GW miniatures is like a slap to the face - it was foolish of me to expect Master Grade quality in similarly priced miniatures.
@The Asian Gamer FYI I have 8000pts of Primaris, Necron, Tau, and Death Guard. Having $$$ doesn't mean you're not allowed to bitch about the price and quality.

From memory, new codex says yes.

DI is more beginner friendly, has the full rulebook but the minis are fixed pose simplified versions. If you're starting I'd go with Dark Imperium.
