I have the NexTool Flagship Pro in my collection and I see that one as a backpacker's multi-tool rather than what I would consider a handyman's multi-tool. I do love the scissor on it thought. I'm not sure what my point is. I guess I get the feeling you're more the handyman from the video's I've seen. Keep up the good work!

91 mm Vix with scissors! That’s why I have two Huntsmans, one Compact, one Fieldmaster, one Ranger along with a 93 mm alox FarmerX. I stuff them everywhere possible: my wife’s, my son’s and my emergency backpacks, the glove compartment of my car, my everday work notebook backpack and my bedside drawer. ‘Cause they seem so dependable as for the scissors capability. I can’t recall the last time I used my Leatherman Wave’s (2nd gen) tiny scissors.

The one scissors I thought for sure would be on this test was the "Raptor" made by Leatherman, a dedicated scissor for the medical professional. I was lucky enough to get one back when they were 50 bucks. Now like everything they are outrageous in price. I gave one away to a doctor friend of mine and now only have the one pair. They look similar to the One Sheer Pro, and like any pair designed like them can not do the finer cuts, mine could cut pennies, and even a deer hide with the hair on it.
The other thing I did not see you mention is the ability to adjust the tension with the screw. I have cheap pair of scissors that I got due to the ability to tighten the screw. I would keep a screw driver in the same drawer, when done using it, would unscrew the adjustment. Most scissors blades have a slight bow inward toward each other. Over time will lose the bow due to the scissors being in the closed position when not in use. That is why I loosen the screw when I am finished using them. Even cheap ones will cut very well when the tension screw is tight and the bow in the blade has not been pressed out over time.
If you every in the future do another test, see if tightening the the adjustment screw will improve the performance if applicable.
Thanks again for such a great video and all the work involved in making them. Peace, Mo

I totally LOVE the scissors on my Victorinox Champ and my Victorinox Outrider. They are amazingly effective!! But.... I also have a pair here that is much like your number 1 in this video. Name stamped in is: Reactor. I am 57 now and I've used it since I was a child, in fact there is still some red paint on it from a project I did for mothersday when I was 7 years old. So, 50 years later it stil cuts like your favourite knife! When we have a project here with some people and there are more scissors on the table Everyone leaves that scissor to the side, cause it does not look cool, it has no soft-grip and seems ancient and therefor dull. Every time after a while they fight for this scissor, because surprisingly it is the Best 😁😊

  • @simonh6371
    @simonh6371 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Wow this really confirms my own findings, although I don't own nearly as many multitools as you do. I agree that Leatherman scissors aren't all that great, I only own a Squirt PS4 with scissors and they're really poor, they have too much play to deal with very thin material like cotton thread or thin plastic sheet, and also can't deal with thicker tougher material like paracord. My Nextool Mini on the other hand has outstanding scissors, because of this and the fact that the Phillips SD on it is far better than the one on the Squirt (which gets burs on the side when you use it), as well as the knife being better and having a stronger backspring, this gets more pocket time than my Squirt if I'm not carrying a larger multitool in a pouch or bag. Not hating on LM though, I love my Rebar and carry it with a Victorinox anyway for the scissors which it lacks.
Victorinox scissors whether 58mm or 91/93mm are excellent as most will confirm.
Finally I'm surprised you didn't mention the Fiskars scissors on some Gerbers e.g. MP series. The ones on my MP600 bladeless stand up to some pretty heavy jobs but are not really suited to precision work.
Cheers from the UK and thanks for the consistently good content!

I was being factious when I typed in EDC scissors, but after carrying scissors (and utility knives) for 25 years I thought I would put in two brands we used at work. Clauss No. 3525R, and Mundial 664-5 1/2. Both of these brands have small finger holes, but with hundreds of different employees using these daily on super snaggy nylon I would wholeheartedly recommend them!

Man, I wish I would have thought of this earlier. I was working this week and thought of your scissors showdown while using my EDC at work scissors/shears. I use the WISS W7T because it is extremely powerful, decently precise and very compact for what it does. I use it specifically to cut metal drip edge when I'm roofing. It's a small part of the work I do so having a huge set of snips would not be worth the weight and space penalty. It's beefy for cutting metal but the blade alignment is very true, like barbers shears, and it has a nut to tune the hinge. It fits in the same size slot in my leather bags as a folded Milwaukee box cutter. I think it would score an 18 to 20 in the gauntlet. I think it would do the precession test fine but you never know. I am pretty sure it would smoke every other test.

Most of these can't be sharpened, which is a HUGE con for me. What's good on a pair of scissors that can't neither get sharper, nor be able to keep working after some use? I sharpen any scissors that can be sharpened, before I start using it. I do a couple of cuts, just for the fun, when I notice the improvement after sharpening. The most fun though, is when it gets dull and thus no more functional, I get it back to razor sharp performance, in no time!

@@maxlvledc Glad I didn't buy the new one I spotted in a hardware shop here in London, the S2 in granite grey, sure it's UK legal and rare as hen's teeth but at £80 (more than $100) for a tool which only excels in it's pliers and perhaps Phillips SD it isn't worth it. The remaining tools on it appear to be mediocre (knife blade) to poor (scissors) and I wouldn't feel happy with it as a standalone multitool so better off buying either the Nextool Black Knight for a fraction of the price, or a LM Bond and carrying it with a Victorinox Climber if I want scissors, or Farmer X if I want scissors, saw and extremely capable reamer/awl.

I can't justify that price for a very mediocre tool package. Between the serrations, lack of other tools, and the ridiculously high price I'll not be buying one.

Scissors are NOT EVERY DAY carry! The reason they're on mult-tools is just in case you need them in a pinch. For most people in the world the only EDC items they actually carry EVERY day is a phone, wallet & keys Things actually carryable in a pocket. Some people might carry a small, inexpensive multi-tool, lighter, flashlight or blade that can fit on a key ring or in a watch pocket.
Of course the Klein Electrician's scissors are going to score the best. They're a purpose built, heavy duty use tool. Fiskars' has been making cutlery for centuries. I grew up in a working class home and used them as a kid.
It also makes sense that a surgeon's tool, forceps, has a good pair of scissors but no electrician is going to reach into an electric box with a metal tool! A small pair of stainless steel, inexpensive medical scissors that are in my FAK in my bike saddlebag is the closest thing to an "EDC scissor."
Lastly, who uses scissors to cut pallet straps, kevlar or Dyneema(R) fiber that is actually used in "cut-resistant" gloves?
I'm glad you found some people who are willing to pay you and/or otherwise support you for spending hours, days, weeks to test tools that have been field tested, QA tested and engineered for decades or longer and then be all blown away when they do the thing they're built to do.

No, it's German, so the ''k'' is not silent. He said it correctly. Knipp means pinch snap, from the verb knippen.
