Trash To Treasure - Dug up Metals & Scrap Turned into Huge 3 Kilo Bar & Coins

- So today i go back to the basics and melt down around 4 kilos of mixed buried brass pieces and other brass scrap .I make a huge 3 kilo bar and a heap of coin Blanks .
Also on 5 October I will be releasing a challenge video with my friend ArtByAdrock-Adam and VegOilGuy-Geoff we need to make a knife or blade no greater than 14 inches in length out of Scrap metal of our choice . So stay tuned for that video there is no winners or losers just three guys making three blades styles in their own way and we don’t have a clue what each other have made until the day they release it as well.

I’m glad your on my wavelength my friend 👍🏻. It could’ve been buried for the rest of eternity but my friend dug it up and now its recast and on my shelf waiting for its future as some else cool I’ll eventually cast 😁

well. no disrespect intended toward bigstackD. But i would hardly consider this reused for something new. Its just "junk" but in a different, more pretty form. Now if he was casting parts for machining to be made into new devices or replacements. that would be reusing scrap for something new.

If anyone is wondering, the yellow powder on top is zinc and it's there because of the chemicals in the brass.
That is a lot of slag! Then, I realized brass has much lower melting point that steel. Made me think of someone picking out bone pieces after cremation.
Not sure what the yellow is but it's not zinc because zinc is silver in colour. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc and if you alloy copper with tin you get bronze

@@philambrose5866 It isn't pure zinc, it is zinc oxide. The zinc is reacting with oxygen from the air and impurities in the crucible and creating zinc oxide, which is yellow.

I actually have a pretty good chest but then I wouldn’t be able to sit down and look at it all at the same time , on the shelves I can access every bit so I’ll just keep filling the shelves

Actually Nick I should be releasing a total value and weight of all the metal on the shelves you’d be surprised to know it’s probably well under $1000 I reckon

Sometimes brass items have a thick chrome plating, in which case the various layers of plating may be very slightly magnetic.
There are, however, circumstances when the actual brass alloy has significant Iron (Fe) content mixed in, in which case the brass alloy itself will be noticeably magnetic.
Yeah hopefully come November once farming season ramps down I will tackle melting my brass pile to make these external mk1 door hinges for my Mini car project. Great episode as always bud, cheers.

bigstackD Casting ; Good video , brass is in it's self a beautiful metal , in fact I have an old Crucifix which use to be plated in silver but over the years has lost it's silver plating . Also the features of the corpus have worn down smooth , what I'm left with is the brass , the base metal its made of . I always keep it cleaned , and polished , and on a number of occasions I've have heard some one say , " Is that Crucifix made of gold " ? and I say yes , the poor mans gold . Jack

You have to buy a big gas cylinder but I liked the small burner 😍😍😍 frome where u get all the brass u have alot You are in paradise
Yeah a big gas bottle is actually 15% cheaper and I’ll save time and money driving to change it over as it’s 4 times bigger than my little bottles I currently use👍🏻. I get all my scrap metals from my friends and also from my place of employment out of the scrap bin so I’m very lucky😁

Thank you my friend. They are fake 💵. All the stuff skimmed was just impurities and the steel that floats on top all that skimmed stuff is worthless to me and will be thrown out👍🏻

Hey Fred how are you my friend? Yes I love liquid brass aswell but there’s just something about molten copper that I enjoy the most👍🏻. I’m not sure on the total weight and value of all my stuff stacked up but when I reinforced the shelves I will be keeping an extreme close weight and value of it all I will add that in the future video, at a guess I’m thinking $500-$600 scrap value 🤷🏻♂️but to me there are priceless as you would know with your casted stuff😁

You could of sold those locks some of them looked like vintage Lockwood from the 1970s collectors would of grabbed those fast and I could of fixed that $60 ASSA Abloy lock

I was wondering if the value of the metals offset the cost of the fuel that melted them? I know with precious metals that wouldn't be the case, but with brass and aluminum wouldn't it be a wash? Just curious. Cool vids btw keep em coming please.
Cheers buddy , melting these metals down definitely is not worth doing if your in it for profit as you’ll loose all profit in time and gas and the scrapyard won’t pay any extra for ingots either. I do this as a hobby so I don’t mind spending a few $ Here and there and I keep everything I make anyway on my shelf and never take it to the scrap yard 👍🏻😁
