Today is 1 more Great addition to my stack but i have just noticed that i have too much on the shelves and it is pulling the shelf slowly of the wall so i will definitely need to address that soon and i know exactly how to do it.

One more nice ingot! Yesterday I was surprised to find out that some websites which sell precious metals like gold, platinum, silver, sell copper ingots as well! So copper is not a precious metal but can be an investment... :) I haven't seen brass or bronze, but who knows... :) May be your collection is a real investment and it's time to buy a safe :)

I have about 90kg in one and two cent Australian copper coins I bought them around 15 years ago when Copper had very low value . I got it all for $200. At least I’ve made some money that way. I won’t melt them but as a kilo of those coins are worth easily twice there scrap value on eBay.

Hey, mate, did you have any zinc boiling out while you were melting the brass? Zinc exploding worries me a little.
I use a heat gun to keep a close track of my temperature and I don’t like to get it to much higher than zincs boiling point , I have regularly overheated my brass but I have never had brass explode. If you watch tomorrow’s video I upload I actually put my smaller burner on my furnace as the larger burner is a bit hard to control as it’s just sooo powerful and I melt a heap of scrap brass .👍🏻. When I melt brass and I’m skimming the dross swag off the top and the zinc flares off a bit but nothing major the only time I’ve ever had a problem was about a year ago when I didn’t know what I was doing and I melted copper then added brass then add aluminium and I had a big reaction and that scared the crap outa me so now I only really make proven alloys👍🏻. I’m not really sure if brass does explode but I could be wrong as I’m self-taught and no doubt I do a lot of things the wrong way. Whenever I have overheated the brass way too much it just makes an awful lot of smoke and creates yellowy zinc oxide thats float out of the furnace that looks like cotton. But like I said matey these are just my experiences and of the 100+ times I melted brass I really have not had a problem .
And yes it’s good to be worried that means you’ll be more careful, I normally now stick to aluminium or aluminium bronze as brass does worry me a little bit. But like I said tomorrow’s upload is a brass one and next Fridays upload is also Brass😁

Actually I have some large foam rabbits here about 15 cm tall I might do a big brass one for Easter I’ll have to make sure I have enough brass in the Crucible otherwise I’ll do it in aluminium and sand it and polish it👍🏻

Hey buddy Ive worked on the same industrial site for 20 years and I get all my scrap and cables from my electrician friend and out of the scrap bin when I’m allowed to go through it , I started collecting my cables probably two years before I started melting so I have a decent stockpile but unfortunately I cannot get many more cables as often as I would like as the bosses have now stopped allowing us to take them😒but I still get a tiny bit here and there👍🏻
I have recently received a heap of aluminium window frames and sliding doors as there a great source of aluminium I gave found😁. Also my step dad is a bit of a scrapper and regularly drops old taps and copper pipes off to me . I’m very lucky like that 👍🏻
In Brazil you kick this scraps on the streets.

Yeah I thought about Patreon but I’m struggling to keep up with a weekly vid atm so it’ll be even harder to have anything extra for my patreons . I do have the option on my desktop version for any donations but no one uses it ever so patreon probably wouldn’t work anyway 🤔👍🏻

For now mate as you see I just stack them up, when I eventually get through all my scrap I will start pulling them off the shelves for future casting projects at least that way the ingots will be nice and clean and I’ll get a nicer clean pour with less impurities to skim👍🏻. It will take me a long time to melt all my scrap but I’m not going anywhere any time soon obviously I’ll chuck in some casting projects along the way, and I normally cast from this scrap anyway Instead of making an ingot first which I know is a waste of time and gas but it’s a hobby and I love it😁👍🏻
bigstackD Casting have u ever tot of mixing metals? I’m curios what u make if u mix steel, copper, brass, tin and aluminum
I have no idea , I’m not sure if that would exactly work as the steel would need to be well over 1350°C to melt when mixed with the other metals and the zinc in the brass would flare up and burn of as it boils at just over 900°C creating zinc oxide and would make a big mess. I tried melting copper brass and aluminium together in a video well over a year ago and the zinc burnt off then and basically I made Aluminium Bronze but any alloy with steel in it would be pretty interesting either way👍🏻

I think torching the brass directly isn't really efficient, since it's temperature drops after being put in the crucible. I'm really amazed how the water from the molten ice pooled up in its own place; that means that the tiles are perfectly leveled :D
Kamal AL-Hinai The torching is a habit when you're working with molten metal, partially for the convenience of bringing it closer to melting point, but the main reason is to drive all moisture out of the pores of the metal. All it takes is one pop and crackle for you to learn the lesson for the rest of your life.
