@Heidi, We have a Brewer's weeping Spruce in our yard and hubby did some pruning. I scavenged the tips. I'm trying out your spruce tip syrup recipe today. I'll keep you posted. It sure smells yummy!😉💖
Hi there @Heidi ! Well, my job is done and we have three jars of spruce tip syrup sitting and cooling on our counter. It tastes delicious! I'll be making pancakes in the morning! Thanks for sharing your wisdom, Heidi!😉👍Love you!💖
@@Esther-1914 that's so nice 😍 I can't wait to try it myself. Did you find other things to use the syrup for? And if so what's your favorite?? ❤️🩹🕊️😉
I hope I can work in some more canning pictures this summer, but it's promising to be a busy year at my house. Your videos and others similar keep me company and remind me to lean on my raising and not depend on the government to 'save me'.
Thank you Heidi! Your garden it looking fantastic! I call that a potato fork, guess I don't know what I got, but whatever it is, it's best darn tool! And itbn is the perfect size!😊
I got that flannel from a garage sale years ago. I do not wear pink much so tend to forget I have it but it is nice to be able to mix it up now and then :)
Might have to up my canning game this year just for the collaboration, although I prefer to freeze things first & do my canning when it's cold out rather than during the hottest time of year. When I finished planting the latest arrivals of bushes I told myself I'm done, no room for anything more...now I think I need to find a place to stick a lilac bush.
I love Mondays this and that! I wish we had spruce trees here, but I’m not sure if they would even grow here, something to look into. My canner has been going all weekend. I only planted a few squash plants, so I slice and freeze them until I had enough for several canning loads. Right now I’m freezing tomatoes for the same purpose. Many Blessings!!
That syrup sounds awesome!! We have many spruce here but its past prime growing time here. Walking onions really need that happy place IMO. I planted some in the main garden and they did ok but I found a small older onion “seed” in my fridge and just popped it into my flower garden. Those plants are now huge just from one shriveled little onion top. The soil is nothing to write home about and the sun just bakes it but it is very happy and about 30” tall. We have sandy loose soil here in upper Midwest zone 4. Regular onions just seem happier in containers for me.
The soil in the boxes Patrick built is a mix of just plain old top soil, silt from the creek on our other piece of property and peat. The carrots and onions seem to really like it.
My onion preservation is really narrowing down to cooked, pureed, dehydrated, powdered and vacuum sealed. Of course my hubby insisting he doesn't like onions is a big influence in this method; what he can't see he can't fuss at. I try to keep at least one raw laying around. I used to keep a bag of raw, chopped in the freezer, then I went to raw dehydrated powdered, but it seems like the cooked and powdered seems to be what I'm grabbing the most. I rough chop gently trimmed, clean onions, skins and all and simmer them until tender. It makes a strange looking brown powder that does clump, but breaks up easily. I put them in cooked and raw dishes.
Your lilacs are gorgeous! I hope to get a bush this year. I'm 2 weeks into making a slow syrup out of fir tips, pine tips, and juniper berries. It's only going to make a tiny bit though, really should've harvested more. I'll try the boiling method next year. Tried making a fir tip vinegar a month or so back and it failed. Thanks for everything you do, Heidi!
Doesn't vit c break down when boiling? When I make pine tea, I boil half the needles and then when I pull off the heat I place the other half of needles in the water and let it steep. That way I could get all the health benefits of pine needles.
Yes, it does, that is why I said the soda would save the vitamin C since it is kept raw. The uncooked version of the syrup would also save it but not the method I used but I know I am still getting the minerals and flavor
@@RainCountryHomestead Awww geeze...How did I miss that part?! 🤦 lol Don't mind me and thank you! I love these videos and that I can ask you anything! I am so grateful for you doing this Heidi! 🙏🥰Bless you!

I just love your Monday this n that videos, so jampack full of lovely information. Does it matter what kind of store bought wine? White, red pink? Dry/sweet?
Great info as usual. Love your MANY ideas and experiences. How do you clean the inside of the syrup bottles you used or any other odd shaped bottles that you can't get a brush to all areas or even inside the top opening?
They do make bottle brushes of various lengths and widths. I have this set: amzn.to/3qqSYKF But if they only had syrup in them, I simply put hot, soapy water in the bottle, shake hard, repeat once or twice then rinse well.

Yay! New vid. Hey I just have a question. There is currently this only place where I can financially get herbs because they use free delivery, but they also sell products that sell new age spirituality stuff. What are your thoughts or advice about when some of the only availability of herbs or certain herbal products come from places that also sell new age stuff. Is it ok to still buy from there? Thanks.
I think that simply has to be a matter of choice and prayer. I do not mind buying products from people of other religions but the concern would be if they are "offering it unto idols" or casting spells. However, we are not held accountable for those things we do not know about and as believers, spells cannot harm us

I really do like my Greenstalks, but I really don’t like how gummed up the tiny little holes get and I have to disassemble it often during the growing season and scrub them so the water can get through. Even a little bit of dirt from rain or splash back clogs those little holes and makes the watering plates worthless. It’s frustrating. It shouldn’t be so labor intensive through the season. The point of them is ease of watering. Still trying to figure out how to keep them clean if anyone has dealt with this issue and found a simple solution?
@@RainCountryHomestead The soil doesn’t have access to the watering trays. It is getting stuck from the top down so that the water doesn’t drain into the lower trays. I finally had to just take the top off and I water it by hand daily. It is rather windy here and I can never keep the tops clean enough.
@@Shofar_On_The_Horizon Yes, I understood what you meant but I have yet to have that issue with mine. All the water flows down through all the trays. What I am saying is maybe it is the type of soil that that is causing it to clog up like that, possibly clay in the soil or too much fine particles. I really do not know, it was just a thought

As far as making a syrup from pine, I do not know, we do not have pines here and I have never made syrup from it but the spruce certainly does not

Is there any medicinal value in the spruce tip syrup? Or is it strictly a sweet syrup?
