I felt a bit low yesterday so I thought I’d treat myself. I went into my favourite shops and tried on a few things but I didn’t feel good in anything. So this morning I put together some things I already have in a new way ( a grey tee shirt dress with a grey denim shirt over the top and a big silver necklace I got for Christmas from my daughter) and I feel like a million dollars. Sometimes forcing yourself to be a bit more creative with what you have is better than buying new stuff. Thanks for the inspiration. Looking forward to your videos in 2025.
I'd add, right before you start decluttering: check your schedule (activities), check the weather and put aside a few outfits that you could wear for the next 3-5 days (sorta micro capsule). Just in case your declutter goes south and you are left with a huge mess, and nothing to wear... 💐💐💐
Start with clothes that don’t fit. Move on to seasons. Next purge shoes-even the ones I love but can’t wear anymore. Tackle accessories: jewelry, scarves, etc. Good advice. Thanks.
I have all ready been on this journey for 2-3 years. I know what colors I like to wear so those are all I have now. had a good start because I change out my clothes by season. Doing the turn the clothes hangers backwards so when I change seasons I know what I haven’t worn go bye-bye. I don’t play the mind game , well I might wear that next year etc….cleaned out my lingerie…bathing suits…i give away to recycle knowing someone will use them as I have. Don’t feel so bad knowing they will be worn again. Taking pictures in the mirror helps also because you can look at those then come back later and copy them. I also put 3-4 outfits together on Sunday so I have things ready to go. I’m NOT a morning person My next is shoes…YIKES! No more heels, no shoes that leave blisters or aren’t wide enough. I now only buy wides. I also found a name brand that everything fits me so no more fast fashion. I’m blessed beyond measure, I’m retired so I didn’t need a lot of what I had. I’ll be 71 Most of my pants are black so I dress with different tops that match. I wear a lot of maxi dresses in the summer. I got rid of perfumes down to 3-4 eventually down to 1 so I’ll have a signature fragrance. Next, my husband’s clothes.
1. Commit to 10 minutes a day. 2. Declutter with a purpose. Start small - choose one section to evaluate. (Does it fit me right now? Does it reflect my current style/lifestyle?) 3. Play dress-up. Each day pick up one item you haven't worn, try it on and style with other pieces. 4. Keep a style journal or photograph your progress. 5. Rotate and refresh. Keep your closet seasonal; put away off-season clothes. Yes! The first that I'll tackle is step 4, keeping a style journal in 2025.
Yes im going to try to practice with these suggestions. I have started taking a photo when I’m happy with an outfit Ive put together. Including accessories I am finding it helpful. Thanks for your tips.
I have done the clean out and the first thing I went through were my sweaters! Bulky turtlenecks just made my neck look larger! A cowl neck or funnel neck were kinder. Then the blouses/tops next the pants. I learned that I have favorites and am wearing more with less. I love, love, love Quince! They are an affordable way to replenish. Thank you Nancy and God Bless.
I can't believe I've stumbled across video, when this is exactly what I started doing yesterday... and told myself I will do this in sections. Gonna be following you!

@ I use a free app, load up photos of my clothes, then record what I wear each day. It helps me to plan my monthly capsule and use all the clothes I love. It also keeps a record of how many wears each article gets!
I feel your video says focus and don't overwhelmed. I am going to start with Outerwear. Living in Miami I have a lot of sweaters, cardigans, jackets, etc., as we are living in air conditioning. I think that trying on the clothe is a great idea - you either get inspired to get rid of it or actually use it, instead of just letting it take up valuable swpace.
I did just clean out my closet. But it’s still really full. I can’t wear all the things I have in my closet. Most days I’m at home. Where I wear sweatpants and sweatshirts. I have some blouses in there I could probably get rid of. Unless I wear a sweater over them. It’s too cold here right now. And I’m always cold. M sitting in my flannel pajamas, with a thin blanket over me watching this. I probably need to move to a tropical island. I’m happy in shorts and a t shirt. I let my husband use a small part of the closet. And I asked if I could have that part back. And he said no. I think we need a closet system to make our closet work better. But he said no to that too. So I guess I’ll try the things you shared and start again on cleaning out my part of the closet. And maybe not buy anymore clothes for a while. I have a big mirror. But it won’t fit in our bedroom. So it’s in the guest bedroom. And we’re going to have guests soon. So I won’t be able to take pictures then. I can do it when I put normal clothes on, when I’m going out of the house.
Wow thank you for the inspiration I need to get on and actually sort out what I have. I know there are a few items lurking that I have hardly ever worn but because they still fit and I spent a lot of money on them I keep them. They just press my guilt buttons every time I see them 😂. Looking forward to cultivating this sensible approach in 2025 (and beyond). Thank you 😊
My pleasure! That's why I'm here to help you with the issues that trip you up regarding your wardrobe! Let me know if you get stuck on anything else during decluttering. 🤩
On a major weight loss journey. Have 25 to go. Have lost 70. It’s been crazy trying to cull together a working closet. Very few things fit the way I want them to. I’m doing this on my own so I worry I might regain as I always have and do not want to have to rebuy bigger sizes if this happens (I’ve done that before and no fun). Anyway, I’m happy to look better but right now my closet is a wreck. Can’t wait to find a wt that I can stay at and start building my closet to reflect the new me!
Ive been building a capsule wardrobe for over a year now. I went through the whole thing and found only three items that I haven't worn to donate. It worked 🙂

I really enjoy your videos and this one is perfect as I am struggling to whittle down the amount of clothing I have as we moved into a very small house. I want versatility while trying to find my style at retirement. My main issue has always been trying to find pants that flatter and are quality that will last more than a season.

My issue is it’s still hot here and all my things I love to wear are for winter. I put away all my summer clothes and I’m tired of them next week. We’re going to get down into the 60s so I’ll be able to wear some sweaters.
Wonderful video, came just in time for me. My closet is overflowing, I live in Florida. Summer all year long, I most have 50 dresses, 50 crops? 50 pants, 100 tops , listening to you I’m cleaning to 1/2 or more. Starting the New Year off right. Thank You 🎄🎅
Me as well. I just put away some leggings that don’t fit in the hopes they will later. I’m going to revisit them now and if I still don’t like the way they fit, I’m getting rid of them.

Style journals are so useful! I started one in February last year. I also like a monthly capsule, probably because I have plenty of clothes 😯
I like your idea of a monthly capsule! What's your favorite way to use your style journal?

Yes! My first tackle is going to be my jeans. I have way too many pairs of them.
I'm going to start making up outfits and documenting them. Write them down in a notebook that I keep in my closet and some pictures.
