You've come to the right place, Jodi! There are so many options. I created a complete guide to shopping for basics based on your style and included links at all price points. Enjoy! shopping-on-champagne.kit.com/7f19d89fa7
I would suggest getting the things that are classic for YOU and your body type and personal style. It doesn't matter about trends so much if you capitalize on trends that are exactly right for YOU. You can just put outfits together differently to make sure you don't look like you're lost in another decade. Also, and I suspected this would happen, as I have aged my coloring is fading a little bit. So I am checking in on The nuances of my best colors. I used to carry off black pretty well and it's looking like a variety of blues and deep taupes are going to be my new base neutrals. I'm keeping a few of my more vivid deep colors to go with my stack of black leggings because they work in the winter with my black fuzzy boots. But I think those will be on their way out when I find pants/leggings/shoes/boots that work better as my coloring continues to soften further. (I have multiple black leggings because of winter travel and not necessarily having laundry facilities available that aren't going to shrink my clothing). And I'm definitely in the category of someone who has worn out my basics. I am so thankful that they have been such great work-horses over the years... I have babied them with cold water, followed by drying on the hanger with a gentle fan blowing on them. Every now and again, I might toss a piece into the dryer on cold air only to briefly shake out wrinkles before hanging to dry. And I learned a great trick from an Italian who loves to wear linen: when I hang up pants to dry, I use clip hangers on both ends to pull out wrinkles, with the heavier hanger on the bottom where I have the waist. I rarely need to iron anything. That said, all the TLC in the world isn't going to protect a garment forever. Over this past week I have purged out things that don't fit right, things that look too bold like Stark, black and white, and simply colors and patterns that don't feel right to me. And I have identified items that are going to go when I find the right thing to replace them. Emotionally, I'm ready to move them out of daily rotation. Some of them will qualify for yardwork, possibly Sacrificed to create piping on another garment, or something else… If the entire garment is likely to be tossed into the trash at the donation center. And I've got a few things like that, loved by me, but they won't be loved in a charity shop.
After my late husband Steve passed, i sold the house we built and downsized. I had to get rid of my wedding gown, it had been cleaned and preserved and boxed. It killed me to do that as it was such a happy day and a beautiful wedding. But i told myself e had the puctures and video, I could see it anytime. Plus i simply had no room to keep it. I took it to my favorite thrift store and donated it with the headband that matched. But i yold them, whoever bought it had to call me so i could gear how muchshe loved it. The money helped the store and the lady who bought itcalled, she was also a second time bride and loved it! Plus it fit perfectly. Sometimes, decisions are hard to make, but once done we know we did the right thing!💗
That is so sweet! We had a very small house when we first got married, and I couldn't count on a daughter of mine liking a yellowed white wedding gown of a particular style 20 to 30 years down the road. So I advertised in a local paper for a buyer, And found someone who really liked the dress and also the pretty wreath and veil to go with it, and she especially loved that it was in her budget. I loved that she asked me if I was getting rid of the dress because I was getting a divorce😂, But I was able to assure her that I was happily married but that my hall closet was too small. We've been married close to 40 years now, and I wish I had a follow up like you did to know how things turned out for her.
U solved ur prob and at the same time u got the priceless blessing to make her happy to get it , what a wise decision ( hard to let it go but happy ending thank God:)
I did a stint in a charity shop sorting donations, and it taught me that if it's the wrong season, clothes get recycled for rags, as most shops have nowhere to store things that aren't going to sell quickly. Now I hang on to stuff until it's coming up to the right time of year.
I recently discovered a couple things: 1) If you have lost a significant amount of weight find a really good tailor and save yourself hundreds, if not thousands of dollars by getting much needed alterations on high quality clothing. It's not cheap, but will save you a ton of money over buying new. 2) I was ready to get rid of a black, longer length blazer (which was deemed outdated last season), only to see it featured as "on trend" this season. If it is high quality, I "retire" it and wait a season or two to see. Trends change in a blink of an eye.
@@lv4366 I gained 70 pounds in 7 months because of a prescribed medicine. I tried many, many diets and finally lost 70 pounds 30 years later. I pulled out my storage box from the early 90s. It had leather pants and skirts, tailored wool blazers, wide leg wool trousers, trench coats and silk blouses. SCORE!
As you get older too and your lifestyle changes you realise there are so many items in your wardrobe that are not going to be worn and many brand new and you keep for the “ just in case moment “ . Sometimes it’s just facing reality and then move on . I am in the process of doing that often 😊It’s actually hard and sometimes sad but hey life goes on .
I have a cotton cardigan I got 30 years ago. It kept trying to fall apart and I would sew up the neck and cuffs again. Cream color. The most wonderful sweater! Hadn’t worn it out of the house for years. I finally gave it to the cats.
Your recommendation to get rid of unworn shoes resonated. I have short, pointed toe boots with 2" heels that sciatica will probably prevent me from wearing again. It's time to donate, because now I have lovely 1" heel boots to replace them. You are such a lovely person with sound advice. Thank you for being you.
*suluxy* got me back into fashion lol. The prices for the real shit made me stop paying attention for a long time because I couldn't participate. Also I want one of those Adidas Balenciaga collab bags but will I still like it in 5 years? Why spend thousands of dollars on that??? Nope.
I thought I'd been doing quite well with my purging but laughed watching this as I still have things from each category, especially the multiple black trousers!! I think they must actually breed in my wardrobe 😂
@@janine1517 you simply can't have too many pairs of black pants!! Regular ones, dressy ones, Church ones, Capri, even have two pairs with a small slit up the side in two different sizes. Now that I actually wrote that down I realize how much I need help and prayer. Keep sharing ladies!!!!!🤪
One thing I have learned from you is to ‘take my time’ with everything fashion, from how I set up my closet, to putting outfits together, to getting rid of the old, to just loving what I have. I used to rush the process but thanks to you I enjoy the process. Thanks, Nancy! ❤
Thanks so much - I'm glad you got a lot out of it. Yes, holding onto the bad memories pieces doesn't put good vibes in your closet. Kudos for getting rid of it!
@@ockmf I would think it would be easy to get rid of items with a bad memory, but what about clothes with a good memory. I still keep a pants suit my late husband picked out for me. Need to lose a little weight to fit into the pants better and the jacket is knee length. I always love it and wear a pin with it( color is navy blue), the pin is the Diana pin, a large imitation sapphire surrounded with diamonds, looked like her engagement ring. I'm holding onto for now, maybe later it will find a new home. Thanks for all the advice. Love your messages. Debbie
I really love that so many people like to donate their clothes 😊 sometimes stuff just has to go into the bin. I've helped out at the german red cross and... well, people were donating EVERYTHING. broken stuff, dirty stiff or old underwear. Takes hours to get through hundreds of boxes to get a few usable items. When you donate, you can help just putting in little notes which size the clothes are (in case you cut off the label), this saves a lot of time ❤
You are so right. I have got more clothes for somebody that doesn’t have any clothes. They’re nice and clean spot. Free and worn free. Very nice clothes. Not really expensive but nice. I was thinking about having a garage sale but it’s strange people won’t give you $.10 of garment, but they’ll give three or four dollars for it in town at a thrift store. So I’ve decided to donate. The boxes that I’ve packed a man or sized and marked on the outside of the box. They’re all clean smell good and fresh but but I’ve got more clothes hanging up That was holding on too hoping I could wear and came to the conclusion that I’ll never lose enough weight to wear those and if I do lose weight to go back to a smaller size, I’ll just buy a few pieces at a thrift store lol I hope to downsize so I won’t have near the room. I’ve gotten now which I don’t have enough room. That’s why everything is cluttered. too much stuff for the room that I have. give your things away. God bless you. For blessing someone else. The thrift store I hope to give to give those clothes away or have given now they’re selling $10 a garbage bag full to help with utility bills for those that can’t afford it…. God bless and bless his others. Can’t give God!…❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Go through our closets a minimum of 3 times a year. Sometimes big purge or small. When we moved to our condo a hard rule, we each have a number of hangers and storage space what ever comes in something has to go. It works for us 😊
I’m going through my closet now. Over the last two years i’ve lost 98 pounds. I went from a 2XL to a Small and a size 14 pants to a 2 or 0. Unbelievable! I was small all the years I worked and when we moved to a rural area in Washington state I just ballooned up to 205. The heaviest I’ve ever been. So I have a lot of clothes to donate. I have an adopted granddaughter who will be selling these clothes for her high school sports teams.
I just moved into what will be my retirement residence, and knew I had less closet space, so have before the move I got very ruthless in going through my closet and dresser and shoes. It has really helped me have only those things I really like and wear staring at me in my closet! I do have one closet for coats and jackets so they aren’t crowded in and a closet that holds my out of season clothes. None of these closets are large but by purging before the move everything fits well
Just the opposite of clothes that make you feel sad, I have hung on to certain dresses and other items that bring back memories of great times or times that I said "Wow, I look and feel great in this"! I guess I keep them for nostalgic purposes because they are not items I would ever wear again. Maybe it's time to say good-bye! Thank you for these sensible tips!
I keep scarves and belts because even if they do go out of style they take up so little space that to keep them until they do come back in style. Thanks for the good suggestions!
Hi Nancy! This is Donna a long lost childhood friend. I recently went through my entire wardrobe and either donated or listed them on my poshmark. It is liberating to downsize. We reach a certain point in our lives and we realize we just have too much. I personally only wear black, always have. It goes with everything. I treated myself and bought an app called Stylebook. It makes you shop your own closet instead of going out and buying new. Love your channel and great content.
I, too, only wear black. I don’t like to purchase clothing, I make too many mistakes. Black is very forgiving in that department. Also, I don’t want to have to remember what I wore the last time I went to where I am planning to go.
This video is so timely! I now live in a climate where I need to put away summer clothes and bring out my winter clothes from the back of my closet. My closet is PACKED and I’m finding items squished in between that I forgot about😜. It is so true about shoes! I have so many that are beautiful, love the colors, but do I wear them….no. It is so hard to get rid of things for me….I guess I’m emotionally attached, feel bad about the amount of money I spent on them….whatever the reason…..I’m ready to clean things out👍. Love your videos❤️
Great list. I am actually in the process of downsizing my closet(s). After my children moved out I started moving into their closets! It is now a big problem. I recently had two friends sell their houses and downsized. Watching what they were going through I am going to try to get ahead of the game before my day comes to downsize. Wish me luck!
I agree with you. I pared down a lot. Here’s my problem, my mother lived through depression times. I hear her voice saying”You may need that. “. I think a lot of us have that to fight also.
Hi Mary, You have a very good point! Many of us have parents who say the same thing. Unfortunately, this has left many of us packed to the gills with stuff we don't need or use. I hope this video helps inspire people to let go of some of those things.🥰
@@shoppingonchampagne I always figure, if I'm not using it, I really should give it to someone who needs it rather than (almost feeling like it is a form of greed) to just hang onto it! THAT will make you feel really good about letting it go.

I agree with getting rid of stained or damaged clothing. I'd also say try everything on at least once a year, as many things no longer fit when you do! Let someone else enjoy them 😊
My employer is one of many that is now fully remote/work from home. I really enjoyed many yrs of office life but at 63 am loving the reduced stress of driving in our busy city. Life is now comfortable jeans, loose fitting yoga pants (not leggings!)gym/athletic shorts.Sweatshirts, short and long sleeved tshirts. I do go out to dinner and dance clubs most weekends. You have me encouraged to declutter old uncomfortable dress shoes and worn out sandals. I'm not sure about parting with boots. The style changes back and forth from rounded to currently a pointer toe. Ive been contemplating a Christmas shirt for over a week for a weekend GA Christmas village trip w/ friends. Decided now not to waste the $30 and wear a black and red plaid I already have! Also have a beautiful crushed 'velvet look' forest green top I can wear all winter. Loved this video.
Excellent and very appropriate to my wardrobe. It makes me question why I hold on to some of these things. Today, I will focus on my closet and get rid of many of the items you mentioned. Thanks.
Great advice I recently purged my closet and it's a great feeling to actually walk in my closet and it's organized, clean and beautiful. Thank you for sharing this video.🌹
Excellent video! Very well thought out, well paced, informative, and useful! Also-FUNNY! You had me laughing-your remarks are so spot on😢😂Thank you for your help!!!
This was so good! I thought I had it all under control - capsule wardrobe, changeover and toss every 6 months - but..... the ill-fitting underwear/bras and ratty pyjamas hit home! My coats were a problem too - as these aren't in my regular closet - but will go through and donate as many as I can!
I’ve been going through a long slow process of cleaning out. Here’s one thing I’ve finally resorted to in order to push myself to get rid of some of those hanger-on’s. If I am considering wearing something but decide to push it aside, I give it a second thought. If I don’t have a legitimate reason for not wearing it that day, I must use it or lose it. I must either pull it out and put it on or pull it out and toss it in the pile. It’s actually helping me decide, because, if not today, then when??
I have items in every single list that you mentioned. I am in the process of doing my-end-of-the-year closet cleaning and this video has been an eye opener! I am retired now and there is nothing that I hate most than looking at the clothes that I used to wear to work, but I still have them. I will follow your advise 100%!! Out of my closet they go!!
Great list! I will be adding some of these to my declutter list. I already do this somewhat twice a year, when I switch out my seasonal clothes. I would suggest doing this when you switch out the seasonal clothes instead of just once a year. You are already going through your clothes and you know exactly what you wore this past year. Better to purge these unworn items now instead of boxing them up to have to deal with during the next seasonal change. I find when I switch for the next season, I don't miss what I had already gotten rid of the previous season. This also starts each season with a fresh closet of items you know you wore last year. On items I absolutely love but didn't wear, I may keep until the next cycle, but I limit myself to 2 items. That forces me to really evaluate how attached I am to the item before I pack it away. For shoes and bags, I have a one in one out rule. If I buy something new, I have to choose something to donate. This keeps impulse shopping in check.
I lost 50 lbs, 20 of it in the last year which resulted in clothes in 4 sizes = 1X, X-Large, Large and Petite Medium. I also lost 2 in. in height as a senior citizen. I worked 45 yrs. and had to be presentable for the public. Purging clothes is a necessity NOW. This has been helpful.
Congratulations for your weight loss. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll never lose my blowed up weight. I can gain weight on a diet or look at water and gain and can’t seem to lose it no matter what I do…. It is us and we’re not as blessed as you are sorry to say… somebody enjoyed your donation of clothes that you no longer can wear….❤ God bless you

Very comprehensive list...the best I've come across!❤ You really get to the bottom of the topic. Most others have about 5 categories. Being so specific forces you to delve into those forgotten spots😊
I love your videos. I do a sweep thru every time I change out clothes for the season. I took a load off yesterday to donate. I've started a bag for summer items to donate next spring. If you do it every season, it is so much easier.
I clicked on this video without realizing I had watched it before. As soon as you started speaking I knew I wanted to see it again. As a result I have removed things from my belongings from at least 7 or 8 of your categories that I know I am not going to miss. Thank you for helping me, in a painless way, to declutter and feel a little lighter.
Wow, I was hit in so many areas! skinny clothes that I really should be realistic about, scarves, suits that I used to wear but now I'm retired (some were expensive!), jewelry (I still have some old "mod" jewelry that I haven't worn since high school-good grief!), old stretched out and pilled turtlenecks and tees, tons of pantyhose from when I was in a pantyhose club if you can imagine, coats for sure (leather jacket from a BRIEF period of motorcycle riding that I will NEVER do again, but it's such a cute jacket although maybe not so much anymore at age 67, a coat my mom made, beautiful at the time but really outdated, I could go on), shoes that are really nice but I just can no longer wear even 4 years after a foot surgery. In fact, I will watch this again and take notes. Very well presented, thanks so much. I've decided to subscribe.
I'm currently trying out Swedish Death Cleaning (slightly modified 🙄) and this video really helped to change my perspective on many things that I'm having trouble letting go of! Even this morning before watching this, I put some things in the wash and keep pile that I'll definitely regret keeping. Thinking of something as well-loved is a world of difference from 'over-used'. So much easier to toss it if you just admit that it's worn out. And, I'm sorry, but at 70 years old, I'll never wear a bra with wires again - so out they all go no matter how new they are. That cleans out a drawer right there 😆.
Worn-out pajamas, winter coats, and shoes are at the top of my declutter list! Followed by clothes that don't fit, jewelry, and purses. I don't have a lot of time, so I'm going to select one or two categories each month. The first step, though, is to find your video on selling things. Thanks for this content! Very helpful!
I think I'll have to put everything on the bed and then only hang up what fits and what I've worn. I also have 5 or 6 pairs of black pants, but my coats (?!) I think I last counted over 25 (don't judge me). Some collect shoes, I guess I'm a coat gatherer. I love each one, but yes....at 67 years old: it is time. I remember going to my sister's house for the first time in 15 years: she had her third bedroom full of clothing racks (she could hardly get in the room). None of the cothes were in style or fit. Overwhelming. I like to think of blessing others when I give to thrift stores. Maybe someone in need will go through and be overjoyed at what they find. This helps me let go. Thanks for the great video.
WOW - just found you and OH boy do I need to clean out!! Thank you. I had something in almost every category..... THANK YOU. I am purging for fall. great list.
I recently sorted through shoes and got rid of at least 15 pair most of which were left over from working days. I needed the closet space. It felt good to part with them knowing I'd never wear them again anyway.
After checking your site out , And yes ive been hoarding Far to many items, and YES time for the big , Gd bye to far too many items , t shirts , dresses , jeans , shoes ,omg im looking forward to getting some room back. Here it goes. 😅
It might seem overwhelming but you can tackle it in sections. Your closet will feel so light and airy when you're done and filled with only clothes you love to wear. Keep me posted on your progress and let me know if you get stuck on anything! 💕
Great video. I have been decluttering a little, but your video made me realize I need to go through my shoes, nightgowns and tee shirts. Love your videos.
Absolutely agree with all of the comments. I have found I have quite a few jeans, yes the style is still current, but I don't need 5 of the same style and I only need one for gardening. My grandchildren have aged, so print tops that hide stains aren't so necessary anymore.
I am in the middle of moving back to the house l grew up in and your list at first thought 30?! I could identify with about 75% There were some categories l didn't really have anything in that one Thanks for picking our brains to downsize our closets. 😊
I'm so glad you found it helpful! We have a lot in common. I just moved back into the house I grew up in earlier this year, so making the list was easy since I've been cleaning out so much! Here's the video where I discuss it more: th-cam.com/video/Q76ReM1k6eA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hU5NbZCVpVQFR1uV
Thank you for this!! I do pretty well but this list gave me some pitfalls. I'm going to tackle this one category at a time! I appreciate you breaking it down, less overwhelming that way.
You did answer a lot of questions that we tell ourselves. I need to have someone help me, because I talk myself into keeping a lot after I put in a box to give a way. So I have to take it to my car right away , out of sit in bags helps me not to see it . Thank you for sharing ❤
great video! i purged most of my black pants. kept one pair cropped faux leather, one pair velvet wide leg, one pair cropped wool trousers. that’s it! I am a light spring and have no black in my wardrobe anymore except those three items. 🎉
Thank you for being so specific! There are some items that I seem to overlook and never realized it til you went down the list. Hopefully I’m on my way to a closet and drawers that make sense and more easy when I start to get dressed now.
A 60kg weight loss saw me shopping my wardrobe for items that suddenly fit again. I have an expensive 25-year-old dress, trousers & even underwear with tags on that have been wonderful to rediscover & would have been costly to replace. So if you think you may lose weight, please hold off on ditching those smaller favourites. Definitely agree with the other points especially black pants, shoes & handbags. Anything stained, damaged or uncomfortable is gone!
Yes, I just take clothes that fit no more out of my daily wardrobe. I keep things which are in a good estate. Just lost 10kg and went shopping in by boxes. I modified several pieces to make them temporary again and some trousers became temporary again because the skinny jeans got out of fashion.
Can relate! I have some really nice things that are classic. And my sizes have gone back and forth from size 2 to size 8. Keeping these makes sense for me.
Boy did you hit a sore spot! I have way too many purses, shoes, and scarves and need to purge. My closet is over loaded with these. You’ve inspired me to start today. Thanks for your permission to clean up!
Yes, ma’am. While watching this, I went through that stash of jeans I had under my bed. Found some that fit, now and also put more in the donate box. How freeing.
Definitely good advice. Only thing I will not be getting rid of is the promo t shirts. I spend a lot of time gardening and cleaning up after my horses and goat so I need lots of those and tend to wear them right out. I will be getting rid of some coats I think. That is a weakness I have. Yet living in a mainly warm climate they don’t get much use.
I pick up holiday specific scarves from Dollar Tree…they are surprisingly pretty. I throw them on with a tee shirt or sweater and feel very festive. Then, I can store flat for another year. I’m an elementary teacher so these are kind of expected. 😅
Great suggestions! I tend to cull as I go because my wardrobe is quite small so if I buy something new, I have to cull something that is similar that I either don't wear/ don't like anymore/ doesn't fit right etc etc Its the only way I can make it work for me. Have to do the bags and unworn shoes though ;-)
I totally believe in declutterring closets. But, I have kept a few things that are 20-25 years old that still work! Classic, Tailored silk blouses, slacks, coats. Maybe because my shape has basically stayed the same, I still wear these pieces. I have decided to stop wearing costume jewelry except for cute vintage pins for holidays. have gotten rid of too many scarves. I live in a very casual town and I have gotten lazy with "the uniform". But, I try to spruce it up with interesting accessories. You don't need much!
Just start small and do one classification at a time. Perhaps you start with your jewelry or accessories. Then start going through your t-shirts and pants...once you get started on it, it does get easier. AND think about how much you're going to love your closet when it's done!
It does feel so good, doesn't it? Not to mention, I'm sure your wardrobe feels lighter, more manageable, and filled with only clothes you currently wear. 🥰
I agree with the multiple black pants. That’s a thing for sure! I’m not sure about the occasional formal dresses. I’ve got about 7 that I rotate every now and then. It’s great because they are all so different that I never need to buy a dress for an event. I can just shop my closet! Got rid of the bridesmaid dresses though. 😂 Such a great video 😊!
Thank you so much! I found it in my parents' house while cleaning things out. It was rolled up and unframed, so I was thrilled to add it to my studio. It says it's from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and I think they are photos of shoes they have in their collection. 👠
I have a confession to make. Was cleaning out just a few things about two months ago. I took a pretty pair of sandals out of the shoe rack, they still looked great. Tried them on and as soon as I stood on them, the entire bottom heal collapsed and when I took it off , it looked like I was pouring sand out of a shoe!!!!! Do you think, maybe I kept them tttoooooooo long. I had them for about 15 years. Yes I know, I need prayer🐸
I wore a pair of sandals to church one day that I hadn’t worn in a long time. I was thrilled to realize how comfortable they were and vowed to wear them more often. I parked at the far end of the parking lot and while I was walking through the lobby and then rear of the auditorium,my friend came running up behind me saying,”whoa, whoa, stop, stop!” I looked down at the “crumbled cookie” trail my shoe had made on the carpet! I took them off immediately and went to get a spare pair of dressy flip flops that I keep in my car ( to change into in case my shoes hurt midway through the day somewhere.) Meanwhile,my friend rushed to get a carpet sweeper out of the janitor closet and clean it up for me) When I got outside,I could see a trail going ALL THE WAY TO MY CAR! 😬😖😵💫🤭
I keep having that experience! Last year I threw away four pairs of shoes /sandals because the sole of one shoe (only ever one!) had literally fallen apart. The year before it was three pairs. Once I had to buy a pair of sandals in the supermarket to get home in because the ones I was wearing suddenly fell apart and I was walking on the supermarket floor! So check the soles of footwear regularly.
Great tips. I recently did a complete cleanout of my closets. It was quite an undertaking but so worth it. I ended up with 8 huge garbage bags that I donated. I had shoes in my closet all in clear plastic boxes, labeled, and forgotten. I threw out approx. 20 pairs. I know I still have more I can let go of but this. was a huge step for me. It fees so much better. All my clothes now fit in my closets.

Sometimes, decisions are hard to make, but once done we know we did the right thing!💗
.❤
Love this story ❤️
I've adopted the "if I don't love it, it's out" mindset!
Not there yet!
SCORE!
Classics never go out of style but just need an ump to stay stylish.
I probably watch at least one “decluttering” video every day… today… I found this and it just “clicked”! Finally… thank you…
I have a cotton cardigan I got 30 years ago.

LOL, black trousers are the rabbits 🐇of our closets! 😂
Even black can frequently look shabby!
One thing I have learned from you is to ‘take my time’ with everything fashion, from how I set up my closet, to putting outfits together, to getting rid of the old, to just loving what I have. I used to rush the process but thanks to you I enjoy the process. Thanks, Nancy! ❤
Well said Elizabeth. ❤
Whew you have excellent suggestions. The one about bad memories hit home. Getting rid of that item now.
Debbie
I really love that so many people like to donate their clothes 😊
sometimes stuff just has to go into the bin.
@theblackbird4057 Why does no one wear dresses or skirts instead of wearing pants and slacks when you are older adults?
Take pictures!
I keep scarves and belts because even if they do go out of style they take up so little space that to keep them until they do come back in style. Thanks for the good suggestions!
I also do this. I love my scarves especially my timeless vintage ones.
100%
Keep scarves!!
What I appreciate about this is that you keep I moving instead of saying the same thing over and over. Good ideas! How much time would all this take?
Excellent tips. My first thought was, "Thirty, that's a lot!" You hit the nail on the head, I can relate to and agree with all 30. Thank you.
My pleasure! I'm so glad you enjoyed it 💕
This video is so timely!
Good luck. I know you can do it.

Great list. I am actually in the process of downsizing my closet(s). After my children moved out I started moving into their closets! It is now a big problem. I recently had two friends sell their houses and downsized. Watching what they were going through I am going to try to get ahead of the game before my day comes to downsize. Wish me luck!
You can do it! 💕
Your voice and inflections are soothing. Good advice. I have something in every category to get rid of
I agree with you.
I finally said to my parents “the war is over”we ended up laughing and they let go.🇬🇧🇬🇧
@@sadhumannell2769 I love that! 💕
@@shoppingonchampagne I always figure, if I'm not using it, I really should give it to someone who needs it rather than (almost feeling like it is a form of greed) to just hang onto it! THAT will make you feel really good about letting it go.

Sometimes ,it is easy to say but hard to do. It will take a lot of courage to throw things away, especially with sentimental items.
@@annvong1579 Always start with non-sentimental items. Once in full swing of decluttering, then tackle those items.
😊😅
I think they are all good points and I will go into my closet today and pick 10 things that really need to go.Thanks for sharing!😊
I agree with getting rid of stained or damaged clothing. I'd also say try everything on at least once a year, as many things no longer fit when you do! Let someone else enjoy them 😊
Well said, Debra! 👏
Nice video. I know what I need to do, but it's good to hear it from someone to remind you you need to get on with it
Thanks for the kind words! It’s always good to have a little reminder and motivation. Glad you found the video helpful!💕
I worked for a fine jeweler in the late 80s during college. I have redone a lot of that jewelry to be more current. Now I wear all my jewelry 😊
This was so good! I thought I had it all under control - capsule wardrobe, changeover and toss every 6 months - but..... the ill-fitting underwear/bras and ratty pyjamas hit home! My coats were a problem too - as these aren't in my regular closet - but will go through and donate as many as I can!
I love your list. I’ve been doing many of them the past couple years and I’ve got more to do. It will always be a work in progress I think. Thank you!
Thank you for your sound advice, permission, and fabulous suggestions-all of which I desperately needed.
Smart 😊
I have items in every single list that you mentioned. I am in the process of doing my-end-of-the-year closet cleaning and this video has been an eye opener! I am retired now and there is nothing that I hate most than looking at the clothes that I used to wear to work, but I still have them. I will follow your advise 100%!! Out of my closet they go!!
I gave my work clothes to Dress for Success!
First time on your channel and I love it! For me it’s scarves and unused shoes and bags!

Nicely presented video covering many areas to consider. Thank you for all the information.
I'm so happy you found it helpful! Which point resonated most with you?
Very comprehensive list...the best I've come across!❤ You really get to the bottom of the topic. Most others have about 5 categories. Being so specific forces you to delve into those forgotten spots😊
I'm so glad you found it helpful! What is another topic you'd like me to cover?
I love your videos. I do a sweep thru every time I change out clothes for the season. I took a load off yesterday to donate. I've started a bag for summer items to donate next spring. If you do it every season, it is so much easier.
I clicked on this video without realizing I had watched it before. As soon as you started speaking I knew I wanted to see it again. As a result I have removed things from my belongings from at least 7 or 8 of your categories that I know I am not going to miss. Thank you for helping me, in a painless way, to declutter and feel a little lighter.
Hi Audrey, I'm so glad you found the video helpful AND took action on it! 🥳
Your list made me realise how I didn't need your list. Thanks for making me feel better. 🙂
I'm so happy to hear that! 💕
Finally, having looked a you tube for so long I find someone I can relate to. Great advise etc xx
THANK YOU. I am purging for fall. great list.
I'm thrilled you discovered me, Joyce! Good luck with your closet purge, and keep me posted on your progress! 💕
I recently sorted through shoes and got rid of at least 15 pair most of which were left over from working days. I needed the closet space. It felt good to part with them knowing I'd never wear them again anyway.
Shoes that are uncomfortable are the items that I will donate first. You are right about shoes and handbags...my weaknesses.
Great tips here . Have done a lot of purging already but always room for more , here goes 💃😁
Great job, Helen - keep going! 💃
I don't find it easy to let go of things, but I totally agree with your list, so I will give it a go soon.
I am in the middle of moving back to the house l grew up in and your list at first thought 30?!
I could identify with about 75%
There were some categories l didn't really have anything in that one
Thanks for picking our brains to downsize our closets.
Multiple black trousers! Haha I would never find multiple trousers to fit me! You love organizing, me too, always looking for better methods.
You did answer a lot of questions that we tell ourselves. I need to have someone help me, because I talk myself into keeping a lot after I put in a box to give a way. So I have to take it to my car right away , out of sit in bags helps me not to see it . Thank you for sharing ❤
Multiple black trousers, lol. You nailed it!
Great video I just found you I'm going to watch again and do these ! Was listening will washing dishes !😊
This was so helpful! I worked through the list and my closet is so much better!!
Great job! 👏
great video! i purged most of my black pants. kept one pair cropped faux leather, one pair velvet wide leg, one pair cropped wool trousers. that’s it! I am a light spring and have no black in my wardrobe anymore except those three items. 🎉
Oh, I like all of the ones you decided to keep! As a light spring, do you wear navy instead of black?
It's a great list, need reminders frequently!
Oh my!! Thank you! Struggling with purses however❣️
They are tough, aren't they? We love our purses! 👛
Excellent video. You hit on all the stuff that needs to go.
Great list! I have a little more sifting to do.
Thank you, I need to tackle this list in the new year sooooo badly!
Get started on it because I've got more videos coming for 2025 on what to do with your wardrobe after you've decluttered! 😍
Wow I have just discovered your videos, they are just what I need right now, thanks a million
You nailed it! Guilty on all counts. Going make a list of the 30 and start purging! Thanks for the push! 😊
Wonderful! I did make a PDF printout of the entire list and it's available in my community, Style Uncorked: www.skool.com/style-uncorked/about

Boy did you hit a sore spot! I have way too many purses, shoes, and scarves and need to purge. My closet is over loaded with these. You’ve inspired me to start today. Thanks for your permission to clean up!
My pleasure, Joann. We often forget that these items get dated, just like our clothes. Great job taking the first steps! 🤩
Heading to my closet right now! Next stop: Goodwill
Great job! 💪
Great items to get rid of !! Thanks Nancy ❤
You mentioned all my clutter nightmares. Thanks for inspiring me to get started. ❤
Hi Carol, Those nightmares are lurking in all of our closets - you're not alone. Good job getting started on it! 💪
You are so right to keep the classics, and I'm glad you're adding some fun with accessories! 💕
I love ThredUp and have sold a lot of courses there. I will look for your video about other places. Love this video - full of excellent advice!
Great ideas. Thanks. PS the color of the top have looks great on you. ❤
I'm glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for your kind words about the pink sweater! 💕
All those recommendations make so much sens! But it is so hard to begin!
Just start small and do one classification at a time. Perhaps you start with your jewelry or accessories. Then start going through your t-shirts and pants...once you get started on it, it does get easier. AND think about how much you're going to love your closet when it's done!
Thanks for the great list! I can apply 18 of the 30 in my life.
Single socks I put a few of them inside another sock and make a throw toy for my dog. 😆
I have donated and sold a number of items before moving this fall. I felt good about passing on items someone else may enjoy while they are in style.
Such a great video 😊!
It was such a great era and I low key miss the makeup days but as usual you always left us with those *yutulu* .
I love the shoe picture on the wall
Thank you so much! I found it in my parents' house while cleaning things out. It was rolled up and unframed, so I was thrilled to add it to my studio. It says it's from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and I think they are photos of shoes they have in their collection. 👠
excellent list of items very helpful to me thanks
Merry Christmas 🎄 Just liked and subscribed. Thank you, enjoyed this video and going to scroll the others.
@@katescarratt4267 YES! Why only one shoe?!?!?! My experience above was only the one shoe!
