He's not toxic. The song is about being in denial and little lies people tell themselves because their real feelings are overwhelming. He's trying to convince himself he's not in love, but it's clear that he's head over heels in love.
The "big boys don't cry' part was done by the secretary working at the studio at that time. She was both thrilled and terrified to be asked to do her bit.
Hi MrsPP.😘 Writer Eric Stewart said the song was about trying to talk himself out of being in love with his girlfriend. The soundscape was created by having the 4 band members sing a single note in unison. They repeated this process until every note of every chord played throughout the song had its own loop. (256 vocal dubs were required) The loops were then fed back through the recording console with each loop being delegated (by certain chords and phrases) to the individual band members and engineers, As the song progressed, the loops were faded in and out as each chord change occurred. By doing so, they were able to create a music bed of only voices. A remarkable achievement for 1975 analog technology. Happy day After Valentines Day Blessing❤ You pal, RNB
Very interesting documentary about 10,cc explains exactly how they recorded the choir noises in the background. They all sang the parts individually. The receptionist in the studio is the woman's voice. Eric Stewart wrote it he's the singer.
10cc are a great English rock band from the 70's. This group was super talented as every member was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer & producer. "I'm Not In Love" was their biggest hit in 1975 but they had other songs such as "The Things We Do For Love", "Rubber Bullets", "The Dean & I", "The Wall Street Shuffle", "Silly Love", "Life Is A Minestrone", "Art For Art's Sake", "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" etc.
Eric Stewart's missus said, you don't tell me you love me like you used to. He said something like, if he did it would become meaningless. He wrote this as a protest song
You reacted to one of the best ballads out there. Thanks, this was entertaining. By the way, I know you hear this all the time, but, you have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen :)
Oh he’s in love lol The background vocals were on a loop and it was very difficult to create that sound with the technology at the time. It still sounds great and stands out. It peaked at #2 in 1975.
He doesn't want his heart broken he is acting as if he isn't in Love but he already took to long fall with LOVE... Just like every dream you ever had when you fell out of the SKY and woke up the moment you hit the ground... The Song is about his Wife "it's Because" The Stain and picture is to cover hes fights.. " Big boys Don't Cry" he a statement of his heart being broken again all over... Listen you the song and know he's singing to his Wife..
It IS a love song! Don't you see he is just saying that. He is trying to hide his pain behind these words. He ain't fooling no one. He is SO in love! Believe you me.
They were a four piece but Godley and Creme left to make their own album watch cry video. It was revolutionary and they went on to do loads of pop videos
I grew up listening to these guys in the 70's, so talented & artistic. This & Bohemian Rhapsody came out in the same year, both were enormously creative, innovative & commercially successful. To create the multi layered vocal effect they recorded multiple vocal parts on multiple tapes which they looped around multiple mike stands into multiple reel to reel tape machines. This was pre digital glorious era of analogue ingenuity. Queen, Yes, Floyd, Genesis etc were similarly creative in the studio. Recommend you check out their brilliant suite "One night in Paris" from the same album "The Original Soundtrack" which is a masterpiece. Cheers
Erics wife kept telling him, you never tell me you love me, and you are away so much traveling, so he came up with an idea for this song, to try and show his with the EXACT OPPOSITE, a guy saying he's not in love but who most certainly was indeed very much in love (lol). Well, something worked, Eric and his wife have now been married for over 50 years !!
Great song, Blessing! My wife loves this one. Your powers of interpretation are spot on with this song. He is trying to talk himself into what isn't really true and yes, he is the one who is spurned. Fabulous reaction as always! Here's to your next one! 🙏😊💜
Eric Stewart, the writer and singer of this song explained this about the song................. "At that time my wife and I had been married about eight years," Eric Stewart recalls, "and she asked me 'Why don't you say "I love you" more often?' I had this crazy idea in my mind that repeating those words would somehow degrade the meaning, so I told her 'Well, if I say every day "I love you, darling, I love you, blah, blah, blah," it's not gonna mean anything eventually.' That statement led me to try to figure out another way of saying it, and the result was that I chose to say 'I'm not in love with you,' while subtly giving all the reasons throughout the song why I could never let go of this relationship. Eric and his wife Gloria are still married after more than 50 years( but I don't think it'll last, "It's just a silly phase he's going through.")
The narrator of the tune, imo, is TOTALLY in luv, and just putting up a pseudo- macho front Blessing! 10cc had a LOT of beautiful complex songs back in the day... My personal fav is "I Wanna Rule The World": th-cam.com/video/pv3km20JH0U/w-d-xo.html
I liked how you were saying " Keep away from this guy, he's toxic" then the penny dropped at "Big boys don't cry" and then you fell in love with him knowing he was hurting ❤️
@@MrsPenPal Yes, it's a perfect package that as long as human beings have souls it will always keep plucking heart strings with it's timeless Beauty. Thanks for doing your part in keeping great music alive!
Take a look at their culturally inappropriate look at Jamaica, done very very tongue in Cheek "Dreadlock Holiday" But bear in mind it was done 45 years ago. They had some good tracks I'me Mandy Fly Me, Donna, Wall-Street Shuffle and of course Rubber bullets.
Hi MrsPenPal, I'm going to see them on a festival in England (Cropredy 2023) this year for the second time in my life. They are amazing! They were big in my teens.
It's a love song. It's funny that all the old generation got this right away and all the younger generation totally missed the message. What does that mean to society?
All members of 10CC are from Manchester, England..... I don't think they're doing much these days, though maybe Lol Creme and Kevin Godley might still be doing experimental stuff.
Ahhh a glittering bracelet from the glory box of the 1970's .... Shame, there is a longer version of this song (I am sure ???? will check) which feels more satisfying, more reolution, more spacious floating in ether ... or did i dream that ? possibly
This song is so misunderstood. Just about everyone thinks he's in denial, but that's really not it at all. Most guys, regardless of how handsome and charming, experience their first real heartbreak for the same reason, because they wore their hearts on their sleeves and ceased to be any kind of challenge, a common mistake all young guys make when young girls are still attracted to guys who present a challenge. So they (guys) left themselves vulnerable by being too clingy and got their hearts broken for it, cheated on and/or dumped. Afterwards, like the guy in this song, they are careful not to repeat the same mistakes, so they go to the opposite extreme, even if it's just a front like it obviously is here. Actually it goes both ways. It can happen to women too. It's sad, but a broken heart really changes people, makes them more guarded.
It was released in May 1975, the month and year that the Son of Satan thought he became a Christian, but there was no way in hell that was going to happen.
The Song was to his Ex-Wife the one he lost everything to... He just letting her know she lost a'lot when loosing him when she lost him she screwed up he is pouring his heart out... The Stains on the Wall is the fighting her and smashing things over the wall and making stains... Not NEW Love but OLD Love you know how we feel when you lost something we can never have back.. I am Not in Love means he will never have that Love he ONCE had.. BIG BOYS DON'T CRY, BIG BOYS DON'T CRY, BIG BOYS DON'T CRY, BIG BOYS DON'T CRY... BTW Shes in Denial not him
But he is the one who continually tells and reminds himself he is not in love but does not want to hand her picture back as his excuse is that it is "hiding a nasty stain that is lying there."..
If you think that song is amazing, watch how they made the song. Anolog to the tenth degree. Now that is amazing video to watch. The daubing and redoubling that went into the song. The song was made in the 70's.
This version was cut to death. Listen to the original, it's way way better! Love your reaction. React to Peter Frampton " Do you feel like we do " from the " Frampton comes Alive Album and Lines on my face from that album . Some of the best guitar playing ever.
He's not toxic. The song is about being in denial and little lies people tell themselves because their real feelings are overwhelming. He's trying to convince himself he's not in love, but it's clear that he's head over heels in love.
Yes indeed did you watch the full video?
The "big boys don't cry' part was done by the secretary working at the studio at that time. She was both thrilled and terrified to be asked to do her bit.
Her name is Kathy Redfern.
He’s so in love he’s hurting….and is denying it! I’m in love!
He says he's not in love, but he is....still.
"Big boys don't cry." 💗👍
truly when hurt too and when they do do its very deep
He's head over heels in love, but in denial to everyone😢

Its a love song He is so in love think teen ager trying to handle the power of love
One of the best songs of the 70s definitely the way they did the vocals.
He IS hopelessly in love. It's not destroying his enemy or toxic. He's miserably, irretrievably in love and he doesn't want that to be known.
This is actually a Love song,!
The technology used in 74-75 was modest by today's standards, but they worked hard to merge these many voice tape sounds. Geniuses. Love 10cc.
Very interesting documentary about 10,cc explains exactly how they recorded the choir noises in the background. They all sang the parts individually. The receptionist in the studio is the woman's voice. Eric Stewart wrote it he's the singer.

He is being tongue in cheek. He is so in love! He”/s in denial.
I remember dancing/smooching to this at a youth club I went to when I was 17 in 1974! Such wonderful memories!
Oh he’s in love lol
The background vocals were on a loop and it was very difficult to create that sound with the technology at the time. It still sounds great and stands out. It peaked at #2 in 1975.
#1 in UK🎉
They used a mellotron, which had a small tape recorder for each key. They recorded choirs for each note.
youre the first one
who make me realized the sense of this song thx!!
It's a great pop song that touches one's heart
This is absolutely beautiful. I believe that this song is about denial.
mrs pen pal, I really liked your reaction when you got what he was singing about, so beautiful, love QLD Australia thank you so much.
10 cc created a special instrument for this oceanic voice background. Totally unique
Wonderful song. Great arrangements and vocals. 😊

Sweetheart, you're a poem. And yes, it's one of the most beautiful pop-songs ever made.❤❤❤

You got it eventually !😊🇬🇧
Thanks for you for watching and holding out till it happened ✨😇
He is ... in Love ... but says he is not !
The paradox is he really loves her...the end.
Great reaction now listen to Alone again another 70s piano classic 👌👍

That switch up what an arrangement 😭

What a great reaction, Mrs PenPal! I'm not in love either🤠.
😂😅
I used to listen to this song when it first came out while I was serving in the Navy. Always girlfriend problems while deploying.

Eric Stewart has been married to Gloria for over 50 years❤ He is in love❤
He is deeply in love, but it is unrequited, so in his bitterness he tries to convince himself he's "not in love."
Hi MrsPenPal, I'm going to see them on a festival in England (Cropredy 2023) this year for the second time in my life. They are amazing! They were big in my teens.
Oh wow that’s amazing!
What were they like,please?
Great tune &;reaction try "The Things We Do For Love" by the same band one day
If you love this song, you need to hear the full version (this version is a bad choppy edit).
He's trying to convince himself he's not in love with her.

P.S. Check out the Eric Kupper remix. Greetz.
