Of course, there is a whole additional dimension to adaptive systems and that is to care about the answer! Different from a machine, a living organism is highly invested in the results of their adaptive computations. For that, review neuroeconomics. Both these approaches give you a solid background that many researchers have yet to appreciate even though each area of study is far from the complete appreciation of how both parts integrate into a conscious brain. But if you don't have those parts, it's a non-starter! Evolutionary neurology is an additional framework or perspective for integration of your understanding. Then you can go back and truly appreciate/translate people like Piaget or Erikson, etc...when you can describe their work in terms of how networks encode experience and integrate new experience into the existing model.
