Wonderful counsel, Iva, for all musicians. In my experience I can add two principles from my experience: 1. In the arts, there is little logical explanation given as to one's personal values. The theme is often seen where it is said in essence: "my feelings are my counselors and guide." While feelings have their place, avoid abstracts such as when Mstislav Rostropovich, while conducting the National Symphony in rehearsal told the musicians: "Pretend you are in a field of wheat." 80 musicians must now translate this abstract impressionism through their hands, which in turn will get 80 interpretations. 2. Discouragement, which Iva touched on. Overcoming technical demands is the key to all performance enjoyment. This is where GOD'S blessing our mind to coordinate with our hands is truly appreciated. In practicing a difficult passage it is often seen how after hours of rehearsal you may walk away feeling that nothing was accomplished. But then the next day when you return to the passage you find that it all fell into place, knowing that had you not exercised the discipline of practice the day before, the sense of accomplishment the next day would not have taken place. To be a futurist builds confidence.
Without knowledge , strong character , believing of ourselves and ability to success we can't survive. We have to fight in every step to achieve our goals.
It's easy to fail in confidence, growth and abilty to play if you loose your health. When you're healthy you don't think about how quickly you can loose much of the life you take for granted. When I lost my health 2 years ago I havn't able been to play or perform anything in public. But I have meditated for 30 years and that has really helped me during the years before with dealing with being onstage, being creative, as well as going through the present difficult time.
As A church Drummer and a Student of audio engineering, this video really motivated me to keep going and focus on my gift. Thank you for the inspiration miss Iva!
I've seen examples of people trying to be helpful, but some of the proposed wisdom featured phrases like "pull back" and "don't give the audience everything." The context of said wisdom made it sound like the person giving advice had some personal issues with how much I knew. One thing I can't stand is older generations getting envious of following generations for simply taking a step further into musical understanding while simultaneously encouraging stagnant performance of others to boost their egos.
Success Doesn't Happen Overnight. Many factors go into true success: hard work, determination, focusing on your goals, assistance from and collaboration with others, learning from your mistakes. Plus, “overnight success” is often preceded by years of failures, setbacks, and straightforward hard work. Success in work or job carrier doesn't mean to avoid commitment with marriage or to find someone beside you. The true life needs two parties can accept each other and give support to each other . Every thing in life has two faces , and the final success depends on the cleverity of good choice for each step we go to.
This is all soooo true for success in anything in life. When someone is unfair, mean, disrespectful or anything uncomfortable towards you, it’s usually a reflection of their own self worth or self critic. Like Iva said, know your own worth, Do the work for your self and these things will not affect you
glad you think so too, it is important for us to understand that we are not the reason someone is being disrespectful, especially if we are just minding our own business
It's a sad fact that sometimes women are still victim of that archaic cliché that a music career is not for them, and they should marry and have children. Social media have many disadvantages, but on the positive side they allow us to discover interesting people that inspire us. I once published a music video and there was a comment saying that she was about to commit suicide but that song helped her get over it. I was very touched by that. So yes, it's nice that you make a video like this talking about your experiences, it may always help somebody.
With all the wildly successful women in the world, music and cinema included, do you actually believe the ridiculous things you say in your comment? Let me give you the not news: it isn't just women that get discouraged, everybody gets discouraged. As with everything in this world, there are people who will encourage, and people who will discourage you. I'm a man, and I was told to drop music and to find a real job so I can have, and support a family. When do you people stop whining and crying?
When it comes to performance and playing, I think yes. However, in every other aspect of life, we must learn to appreciate every version of ourselves and not tie our worth solely to success. My confidence comments were specifically about our playing and stage behavior.
Great video. I like your straightforward style. Excellent advice. I'm 70 and it's just a hobby for me, but this is a very valuable message. Thanks for posting. Best wishes, Will.
It's good to be confident into love yourself, but as with everything, there's too much of it. I'm afraid you've crossed the line into the too much territory. I've never met you but in this video you come across as one part encouraging, one part grateful, and eight parts arrogant.
the video I wish I had❤🩹

I'm a writer and not a musician, but a lot of what you say applies to my medium too. TY Iva. I've been loving all of these so far.

what a beautiful slavic (belgrade) accent in combination of beautiful voice and energy.. I can listen to it all the day, like a very beautiful song.

And if anybody tells you that you're a Barbie doll and you should marry somebody rich, don't forget to tell everyone about it lol

So as I understand you, discipline plus effort equals self-confidence. Is this correct?
