Fond memories of the WP on Altamont Pass remain, often passing near SP freights that also had to endure that climb and descent. Time permitting, the drive on Altamont Pass Road was great for a little railfanning.

The WP was the western segment of Jay and George Gould's 'alphabet' transcontinental route: WP-Rio Grande-Missouri Pacific-Wabash-Pittsburgh and Lake Erie-Western Maryland.

We’ve ridden from Ogden to Altoona. Would like to try the other direction, which I believe is a certain amount of The Feather River Route.

They continue to run off all the good help. Pretty soon they will be like , if we don't run trains look how much diesel we can save.
