    I can't tell you how many times I've watched your videos. Some of your footage is absolutely incredible. And a story lines are so informative in for a train modeler the best videos out there in my opinion for older equipment. Absolutely love watching these. Your hard work is greatly appreciated. Thank you

      Thank you so much, Chris! That really does mean a lot to us. We put the maximum amount of effort into these projects, so it’s great to hear that you’re enjoying them. We appreciate the feedback.

    Calico Rock is such a cool town to visit. I had no idea there was SP units nearby.

      You’re right about Calico Rock. It was a great place to spend the afternoon while waiting for the train. The SP power (lettered for KYLE) that you see in the video is no longer operating on the MNA. 9362 is now working for the A-OK Railroad, as far as we know. The scene at Calico Rock was captured in July of 2017. Thank you for watching the video.

    I found a handful of the SP sd45 tunnel motors in a deadline at NRE in Silvis Illinois probably 15 years ago. NRE is gone now but someone is in there restoring some UP and C&nw classics. Great video😊

    Of course when I saw KYLE RR in title , I knew it had some RI info/stuff. Sure enough in 1st 30 sec, I saw some excellent footage! Had to pause vid and throw in a comment! Thanks again C VIsion!!

      You’re very welcome! We couldn’t resist adding in a little Rock Island content. It just wouldn’t have been right to leave it out. Thank you for watching, and for the comment.

    9:21 Almena Hill, Kyle Railroad’s toughest hill for eastbound trains, and 14:20 Montrose Hill, toughest for westbound trains. Both are sustained 1% for several miles. I’ve stalled out on Almena twice, and broke a knuckle once. Been lucky enough to never stall out on Montrose

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We wondered about the grades at those two locations. Thank you for filling us in! That Almena Hill looks to be quite the challenge for heavy eastbounds! Thank you for watching and commenting.

    To bad that G&W sold off all of the 45’s. They was very reliable on the Kyle. Thanks for the video it brought back some memories working on them

      You’re welcome! Thank you for watching. Those SD45T-2 units always put on a great show. It’s quite a shame that they were purged by G&W.

    The MNA really is a cool railroad despite its generic owner. Sawtooth profile with hogbacks and some surprisingly steep grades on the north end, flat plains mixed in, and tunnels, high trestles, running through the gorges and cuts along the White River towards the south end, and always had fairly interesting power and operations.
    It was an interesting railroad to work for, and I’ve been over almost every inch of it. I almost miss it sometimes. It was particularly fun to run SD40-2’s and tunnel motors across. That part I do miss.

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, Zach. You’re right about the MNA. It’s a fascinating piece of railroad that probably doesn’t get the coverage it deserves. We enjoyed our time exploring the railroad. Also, we do appreciate the assistance that you provided for this video. KYLE 9362 was getting tracked down, one way or another. Thanks again.

    The tunnel motors were developed by EMD with Southern Pacific and the D&RGW systems in mind. Both had to go to the trouble of getting their GP30, GP35 and SD45 units to not overheat and lose power on the Moffat Tunnel, Tennessee Pass and Donner Pass grades.

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sir! Tunnel motors were very well suited for the challenging territories found on the SP and Rio Grande. Thank you for the comment, MJ.

    Seeing the SP tunnel motors unpatched is a bit strange. Were they bought immediately after the UP merger when UP purged a lot of obsolete units or auctioned off later? The ones UP kept in service were patched and run ragged. In the end they eventually gave most of them a fresh coat of paint and almost immediately auctioned them off. The Sd45's got the same treatment a few years later. Maybe the bean counters figured the cost of a repaint would bring more money at auction than just selling them ragged?

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  ปีที่แล้ว

      The former SP SD45T-2s seen in this video were retired by the Union Pacific in 1999. They served as CEFX lease units before finding homes on RailAmerica properties. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    I thought the only units impacted by EPA standard were the first generation diesels like GP7/9s and RS3s.

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Our understanding is that diesels newer than first generation are affected as well. Maybe we’ll have to brush up on some literature covering that subject. Thank you for the comment.

    Fantastic video with some "tunnel motors"! Are these SD40T-2/SD45T-2 still up and running, or have they been shelved for stupid "green energy"?
    At certain points in the video, I had certain shivers down my spine from the way the wagons were swaying…

    • @SmokyHillsSwitcher
      @SmokyHillsSwitcher ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G&W forced Kyle Railroad to sell off the SD45T-2s as they “used too much fuel”, and replaced them with Mk50-3s, which ironically are worse for fuel consumption. G&W sold them to LTEX, and leased them back to themselves for a few years before LTEX decided to scrap them. As far as I know all are scrap except the LTEX 9362, somewhere down in Oklahoma or Arkansas. Kyle Railroad still owns 2 SD40T-2s, CORP 4074 & 4075 (the red locomotives in this video)

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much! And yes, there was definitely some jointed rail rock and roll at a few points in the video. And it looks like SmokyHillsSwitcher answered your question. Thank you to him for doing that!

    • @Nicola636128
      @Nicola636128 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SmokyHillsSwitcher Thank you for the detailed explanation! It makes me laugh that they sold off the SD45T-2 because they consumed too much diesel and replaced them with other locomotives worse in terms of diesel consumption.....

    Wished C Vision would show the whole trains instead of all of the heavy editing. I would like to see all of the rail cars.

    • @CVisionProductions1
      @CVisionProductions1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We appreciate hearing your thoughts on our videos. And we also appreciate you sharing them in a respectful manner. Regarding our editing techniques, we find that a good percentage of the audience tunes out if videos aren’t tightly edited. If there was a way to do it both ways, we would. Our goal is to balance the scenes out. Generally, the most interesting freight cars are shown, while some of the less interesting cars are cut out. Either way, we appreciate you watching. 73, Robert!

    Sucks that G&W got their hands caught in the cookie jar with the EPA and now all these engines will be pretty much be gone within a year or so.
