This shop is as unassuming as they come, yet it’s a major part of guitar history with the LA scene and beyond. I’m so glad you took your dream guitar to the luthier that built a guitar for Steve Vai and had a major impact on him as a guitarist and gear-head. Lots of luthiers could have setup and repaired this guitar, but it was meant to be done at Performance Guitars.
I love how you asked to to have the set up done like Steve Vai’s. It was like you were a kid asking his hero for an autograph. Thank you for sharing this treasure of a guitar shop.
Totally true . . . I had the same reaction! I’d like to add that I have no doubt l Perfecto will find a way to get an “actual” autograph from Steve Vai on his childhood dream guitar. Better yet, maybe Perfecto can manage to score an interview with Steve. I’ve heard he is really inviting and down to earth. He’s had other TH-camrs including that kid bassist Ellen (along with her totally geeking out dad, and mom) over to spend a day at his home and home studio. Getting more info about this particular guitar Ibanez design from the man and myth himself (along with that autograph!) would be mega icing on the cake for this guitar’s story.
damn that feels like ur in my hood in japan bro. theres tons of guitar shops that looks and feels the same out here. intersting.. mabhuay perf de castro
hi! this might sound like such a stupid question but i literally know nothing about in ear systems. 1) If I wanted to get the Phenyx pro ptm 10 does the transmitter just plug straight into a wall outlet? or are you supposed to connect it to something else?? 2) I'm a singer and I want to get this to hear myself/the backing track live. Do I need anything else? or does this come with everything I need?
Until you have had a luthier build you a guitar with you and not mass produced you do not know what guitar is good and suits you. This is what I learnt building a guitar with Tom Waghorn in the UK where Alex Hutchings signature guitar is built by him. Until you get a made to measure neck for your hands everything is imperfect, you just dont know it!

Thank you for posting! It's great to see Mr. Sugai and the shop. Mr. Sugai has so much history to tell, it's amazing.

Camera person sucks, annoying unnecessary movements. Great content.
