The year is 2020. A young woman named Shiori Genpō, a descendent of the Phantomhive noble family, runs the prosperous Funtom Company. Since only males are allowed to lead the family, Shiori disguises herself as a man name Kiyoharu, and works to solve difficult cases tasked by the Queen. Sebastian Michaelis, a demon, watches over and protects her as her butler in exchange for consuming her soul after she fulfils her revenge.

For all people that's been complaining, no this isn't Ciel Phantomhive this is actually his great-great-granddaughter. So that's why "ciel" is a girl and her family name was different. Even the story was quite different.
The maid, Rin, was Meyrin great-grandchildren (Meyrin was Ciel's maid) that's why she was saying something like "I'll protect you as what my family always did"
And Sebastian, well he is a demon. He once again involved in a contract, and witnessing Ciel's great-great-granddaughter suffered just like Ciel's did.

I mean it’s not Ciel which is surprising but I’m curious.
It's a good thing I watched the movie without any reviews because all I see in the comments are a bunch of ignorant people who either haven't watched the movie, or actually searched up the background of the movie (it's set in 2020 Japan, and she's only a descendant of Ciel). Don't even get me started on people judging the movie because the actor doesn't look hot enough like Sebastian to their liking, like seriously - piss off. If you've actually watched the Sebastian's actor's other works (Hana Kimi and Mei-chan no Shitsuji -- which is also a butler drama), you will see the he deserves this role, not because of his role, but because he's a GOOD ACTOR. The movie was fine, and there was a good plot, they even added unexpected twists. The main actress even looks like D.O from the group EXO, pft.

the whole descendant of ciel still breaks the original story, especially since tanaka and rin are still around like wtf...they should of been dead by now and ciel "died" a demon. they cut and pasted scenes from the anime to the live action in an order that is sloppy. "sebastian, stay with me until i fall asleep" *middle of the day, sun shining through*

Ive watched the whole movie, i must say it was a really good watch. Tho its not entirely the same as in the book or Anime series , but still it's a really really good film. Even my mom loved the it. So for those still thinking if its worth it,

Am I the only one here who finds the actor of Sebastian hot? I mean, c'mon, He doesn't really looks like Sebstian in the anime but when you see closely at his glances and his glove movements like in 1:41, I could see Sebastian in him. People, it's really hard to PLAY as Sebastian.

Hiro Mizushima and Ayame Gouriki are great at acting. If anybody were to play Sebastian and a tomboy, it's them. They've had tons of discography, and I couldn't be more excited to hear them casted for their roles in this film.
Everyone, it's up to you if you want to read this or not, but this is my honest opinion. I would kindly suggest reading it, but it's up to you.
Seriously, a lot of anime fans feel disappointed when a live action movie of an anime/manga is released. A lot comments like "Why isnt ---'hair this colour?!" "The actor totally doesn't look like---!" "Why the heck is he asian?!"
Guys.
Reminder, they are Japanese. And contradictary to Anime, the Japanese don't actually have crazy haircolours, or even another hair colour than black or brown.
I mean some of you might be thinking, "Can't they just get a wig?", I mean I thought of that too. But when I actually think about it, it would seem even more fake.
And If you're wondering "Why don't they hire non-Japanese people to play the foreigners in the movie?" guys, think straight. Do you really think it's that easy to find a foreigner who looks like a certain character, is fluent in Japanese, AND Good at acting? I don't think so.
And plus I'm not sure if their budget assures them that they would actually create the perfect movie.
And also if you're wondering about the plot or the story, think about it. Don't just go "No! This is all wrong! They messed up! This is supposed to be like this!"
If you say those things then hold on for a sec, think, If they ACTUALLY followed the plot of the original source, It wouldn't really be called a Live Action MOVIE adaptation, it would be more like a series. Of course they had to modify a lot to make it fit in almost 2-hour screen time.

People were mad about this live action but if you understand that they were portraying different characters from the manga, it is actually a very decent film. This earned a special place in my heart cause I started watching anime bc of this. I saw this trailer in the cinemas almost a decade ago and got intrigued. I didn't watch it there since I was with my classmates, but I looked it up when I got home and found the anime. Since the live action wasn't available anywhere yet, I watched the anime. I became a huge fan and had a huge crush on Ciel lol (I was 14 XD). I started craving for more anime after that. I also watched this film a couple of times when it went available online. Now I'm the biggest weab, waiting for another season of Black Butler that's gonna come out very soon! I'm very excited! Might watch this again while waiting. :>

Ohhh, I totally agree with you! I watched it yesterday and I totally fell in love with the modern adaption of Black Butler. It's just sooo cool! And I think it was a really good idea to not make the movie like the manga and do something different with it😍🤭❤️

2. Lot of people are complaining that 'Sebastian doesn't look good enough or it's nothing like the anime'. Well anime people exist in anime and seriously... do you think it's easy finding a guy who looks EXACTLY like Sebastian!?
3. That is not Ciel, Mey rin or Tanaka. They're their descendants.
4. There are some people complaining saying how Meyrin doesn't have pink hair. Lemme remind you guys... THAT IS AN ANIME AND THIS IS A REAL LIFE MOVIE!! IN REAL LIFE, DO YOU SEE SOMEONE BORN WITH PINK HAIR EVERY NOW AND THEN!?
5. Also, the girl playing Ciel's descendant looks really cool. And the actress playing Mey rin is cute.
6. Do not judge before you actually watch this.
7. The action is pretty cool and much better than most live actions' fight scenes.
8. Also, the producers tried to make this a bit different from the original manga/anime to avoid copyright.
9. And the guy playing Sebastian is NOT ugly!! He's really hot and wait till you've seen most of his movies!
10. AND...even in the anime, Sebastian's phrase is "Watashi wa akuma de shitsuji desu kara". If translated directly, it means " I am a demon and a butler ". The phrase is the same as in the anime. Except in this live action, Sebby uses the pronoun " Watakushi" (which is slightly different from watashi but I really don't wanna get into an explanation right now) So overall, the meaning of his catchphrase is the same except the subbing was a bit different.
(Well maybe I suck at explaining but screw that.)
So am I the only one wondering how in the world there was any descendant of the Phantomhive when Ciel never had kids to begin with? He was turned into a demon and left Elizabeth behind. This is just...meh to have used Sebastian along with what was Black Butler

Splashof Harmony ... second season of the anime isen't 100% cannon theres no Alois in site and the manga is still going and ciel is vary must still human with a contract.
He is still human because season 2 of Kuroshitsuji never happened. It's not Canon and didn't follow the manga, so Ciel never turned into a demon.
As far as I know though, the end of the first season was the canonical end, so Ciel still never had kids because Sebastian ate his soul when he was 13. Am I missing something? (Hopefully this doesn’t sound sarcastic or anything, I’m just genuinely wondering because I thought it canonically ended when Sebastian ate Ciel’s soul)

So ciel still didnt find his parent's killer n the contract is still there so ciel isn't a demon too.the manga is still ongoing so if anyone wants to read the manga if u watched all the animes of black butler series u can skip to chapter 66 but forget the second season n the second half of the first season.

This movie is considered "okay" if you don't know anything about the whole story or haven't watch and even red the anime and manga black butler. But if you ever watched the anime or know the story from the manga, it have some flaws. But considering the plot it seems to be about different character itself being somewhat like ciel's descendant or something.
(I'm saying this cause i had similar experiences but the fact is i had seen this movie before the anime and even the manga.)

They replace ciel as a girl because the voice actor of ciel is a girl actually . The sebastian might not look the same but he act the same. Mei rin is red haired but this is real life though , every anime that have real life with red haired will be replaced as brown haired as well. Greil sutcliff was not there because from the beginning there wasn't madam red there . And one more thing is , is it just me or do you realized that ciel's actor is the same person who played as haruhi in ouran highschool host club .

My comment is like really late but its seems people don't realize that this live version of black butler takes place In 2020 where as the anime took place in 1875-1888 so Ciel could not live that long that is his very great granddaughter.Ciel was the first of the Phantomhive family to make a contract with a demon but then it became a family tradition or curse at some point summon Sebastion.Meyrin raised her children to take care of the family for years to come so its no surprise her great great great great ...Granddaughter Rin was raised the same the guy they used as Sebastion is also really good all in all its a really good live action

When I started this trailer I thought, "Oh god it's going to ruin my image of Sebastian!" But I had hopes, and then it was crushed underfoot. Doesn't look to bad though, still look forward to seeing it!

Emma Hansen even in the anime, Sebastian's phrase is "Watashi wa akuma de shitsuji desu kara". If translated directly, it means " I am a demon and a butler ". The phrase is the same as in the anime. Except in this live action, Sebby uses the pronoun " Watakushi" (which is slightly different from watashi but I really don't wanna get into an explanation right now) So overall, the meaning of his catchphrase is the same except the subbing was a bit different.

I've always thought that their maid was useless in the anime yet here she is kicking ass with sebastian.
Shark she's useless as a MAID but they mainly paid her to defend the house and kick ass with Bard and Finni when Sebastian couldn't. She is a master marksman and loyal to a fault, which is why they keep her around, I think.
