It's kinda funny that he says that he forgot how to smile, but even on the first page of the manga we can see his smile all over his face. And yea I know they made a difference betwen confident, I'm getting what I want smile and trully happy smile, but still this is one of the only anime/manga that actually agknowleages that the main character is still a kid, and very capeble of feeling emotions

s1 ciel seemed so much more curious about sebastian lmao. in the manga, iirc ciel never bothers asking about sebastian unless it's necessary. like, here he spends the entire day trying to get a photograph of sebastian and asks things like if he bleeds red.
Ciel from the anime and Ciel from the manga are very different. Ciel from the anime show's his childishness with his curiosity. In the manga, not so much(not at all). In the manga It's more like these few moments in which he truly acts like a child. Like crying at night from a nightmare, being scared of thunder, the time when he pulled Sebastian by his clothes to ask for his name, falling asleep in his arms and so on. My favourite manga moment (spoiler obviously) is when he had a monolog in the school arc where he called Sebastian the best help he could ask for and ran up to hug him. It truly showed his child like self on It's fullest. One thing I notised is the different way anime and manga treat Ciel's whole "life is a game" mindset. In the anime It's used as a way to show him being childish while in the manga It's used to show just how mature he is
So far the show seems to go with a period of making musicals then making anime series eventually. Season 1 is so different because the manga was in its infancy. Luckily they retconned most of the info with Book of Circus and onward
Like the person above me said, much of season 1 is non-canon material because they wanted to make an anime for the series, but the manga did not have a lot of chapters at the time. So they just… made up the rest of the storyline lol
