The McDonald's logo is "Cleaner", "More clearly defined", and "More universal" than any work of art (just insert any famous work of art). Would you say this makes the McDonald's logo "great" whereas what we consider art "only good"? No. Sac State's performance has every bit of the *soul* and the *grit* of the original, and it expands on this in a way that any composer will appreciate. Sure, some pieces benefit from cleanliness and precision. This isn't one of those pieces. It's about the sense of communal experience through the interplay of voice. Putting perfect notes in the air does not a communal experience make. Putting people 'in the air' to 'do a thing' does make for shared experience. The greatness of this piece can only be measured in how much evocation it impels. Yes, some of that is sociologically bound culture, but some is in the raw animalness of the incantation.
