This video should be required watching for anyone planning on living in Dubai. It is so accurate but it shouldn’t put you off.I have just returned to the UK after 7yrs there and it’s been on the whole a very good experience. My main advice would be to try to live cheaply,it’s so tempting to over spend, which is of course what the whole place is geared around and if you’re not careful you will go home “as poor as a tea boy” !

Man, this guy makes so much sense and he makes me laugh so hard. I am an Indian, grew up in Auh, moved to Kerala and finally settled down in Canada. Everything he says is literally bringing back memories from my childhood. I havn't laughed so hard in ages.

This is a gem of a video. I don't know why it doesn't have millions of views. You nailed every point on the head. Anyone considering moving to Dubai or UAE should do themselves a service and watch this at least once. Well done.

Wow loy, I am an american Portuguese female in my 20s. I have no connection to Dubai. But, I have always been interested and intrigued on how Dubai could operate so "successfully" with western ideals in a place like the middle east where religion is equally as important that seems to contradict many western ideals. And after discovering ur videos a few days ago I realize IT DOESNT operate with western ideals. Western ideals are a lot more than building wealth, consumerism and idealism. They include freedom of speech, participation in government, gender equality, and race/ethnic/ religious equality. Which, includes fairness and labor laws.
You have shined a light and I cant imagine the strength it has took to speak your true mind and to get up and leave everything you know.
I admire you greatly. I am lucky having been born in usa, my father grew up in angola until 17 escaped civil war back to Portugal (a place he didnt even know with NOTHING) and then was able to come to usa via sponsorship thru an aunt. My mother, grew up as a farmer peasant in the mountains of nothern portugal and she came here when she was 16 because her aunt sponsored my grand parents. Both of my parents families were split up for a long time waiting on acceptance, visas, green cards etc. But, I'm proud of what theyve gone thru, and have me grow up in this great nation. I often struggle as any child does with parents who are immigrants here because my ideas are different.
I will tell you loy, from the age of 11 I got very heavily into rock n roll, goth music and metal. I am a part of the gothic subculture. I dress in that way, attend goth nights, and ALL my friends are from that subculture. Some have tattoos like you do, piercings, etc.
The proudest moment of my life was the moment my friends of these subcultures started coming around. My parents were like WTF at first when I stated dressing differently, hanging in certain crowds and they didnt understand it at all. The extended family thought I was a devil worshipper, thought I needed "god" or purification etc. But, my parents got to know my friends and ppls with tattoos, wearing black etc....and they realized one day "wow, these are some of the nicest, MOST INTELLIGENT, open minded ppl ever". The rest of my family still frowns on me but my mother defends me. I remember one day she told my very materialistic, traditional aunt after she tried to "warn me" about the ppl I associate with.
Without my mom knowing I was listening in the hall I heard my mom say "u dont talk to me like that. Oh, your kids are so perfect right. They buy designer clothes and put on face right...but, ive met and HANG OUT with my daughter's friends and not only are they all dyed hair, crazy tattoos, strange attire but they're incredibly smart. They for HOBBY read philosophy, poetry, economics etc. They also have the best respect, manners and call ME or stop by with gifts for my husband and I for opening my home to them when they visit my daughter. AND, my daughter is HAPPY!"
I nearly cried when I heard her defend my choices & lifestyle and saw shes changed.
Ppl who judge you 4 ur tattoos as u already know, theyre the sad ones for feeding into mainstream beliefs. Thank goodness for you Loy, esp coming from where you do. In comparison me being me was prob a piece of cake compared to your journey of being true to yourself.
Bless you, your wife and family. We need more ppl like you in the world. When I am able n ready, I look forward to utilizing your services. Until then, TY for being you, sharing your perspective, expertise, journey and aspects of yourself. Honestly, you remind me of my bf a bit with less tattoos and hes much more introverted. All he wants in life is to be "left alone", live in a forest and read day and night to improve his mind. And he lives life on his terms, on a lake though in an urban area tho but that's the best he can get around here. So cultured, so intelligent, a sponge of knowledge. I wish hed capitalize on it a bit more but if hes happy thats fine with me.
Id like to talk to you or email you if you dont mind loy. I understand your time is precious and you have work so id be happy to possibly like to write an article about you or interview you and distribute it in my local goth/music community. I think theres a lot of people on this side of the pond that'd benefit from your services and perspective. My gmail is katdecarmo@gmail.com

Hello Loy Sir, i've been watching your videos since few days. This video is very funny especially when imitate "Mallus". The other fact I would like to share with you is about the "Double Standards". What you mention is absolutely true. I have witnessed with my own eyes where law enforcement personnel taking bribes from the pimps and arabs in long robe dress purchase alcohol from liquor stores. These witness really shocked me about their values.

You are so true.one of my Mallu idiot boss tried to impress me with his cars.i never given him any compliment, one fine day he told me did not you notice my new cars.i was aware that those were rental cars.i do not understand why men thinks if he has money, car females get attracted.
This idiot boss once was imitating mohanlal the mallu superstar style way of behaviour.i felt to split on his face. What i felt most of the indian men,i met accidently are disgusting do not know how to behave to a female.
Yes most of the company has 10-15nos.of employees always say with in 3 months we will give job visa etc.i have worked there more than 2years without job visa.finally got fedup the reality of dubai workatmosphere.Being single female, dubai is a dangerous place to work.knowing work with sufficient experience still get aporoach from indian men sounds like they are hiring for fucking too that won't be mentioned in the offer letter.1 bastered i have asked can you write on your job advertisement you prefer someone want to sleep with him.i have no respect for people work in middle east.
I FELT TO SLAP MANY BUT BECAUSE I KNOW THE RULES EVEN IF I AM RIGHT NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO YOU.

The chances of an expat. residing in Dubai & getting a UAE citizenship is next to impossible - unless he/she is the owner of Jashanmal. Same like in Oman, the Gujarati's were doing business for so many years & then, when the Gov. realized their importance, few like Khimji's & others are Omani citizens.
Now, the new thing these Gulf Arabs are upto ... getting Africans to compete for them at sporting events i.e. Olympics, World Athletic Champ. etc. and giving them citizenship - thereby proving "see we are now winning medals at these events", even though these G. Arabs barely had a history of athletics in their country.

    Hi there,
Dubai (or the UAE) used to have oil, which is what made them rich and successful in the first place, even though now their economy has diversified. However, I believe that the country (and the leader) that you should be admiring is Singapore, for the following reasons:
    - They got expelled from the Malaysian Federation in 1965 and had virtually no resources.
-From having nothing (no oil, NOTHING), it became an economic powerhouse.
-It's GDP per capita ($57,714/year) is higher than UAE ($40,698/year) - infact, the highest in Asia.
-You highlighted that Naturalisation/citizenship for foreigners isn't possible in UAE, guess what, Singapore allows you as a foreigner to take Permanent Residency (PR) after staying on a working visa for a few months and eventually take up citizenship which entitles you the THE MOST POWERFUL PASSPORT IN THE WORLD.
-Rule of law is taken really seriously in SG (6th least corupt).
-Education is world class and valued (universities like NUS and NTU are among the best in the world)
-No "Islam/alcohol" issues like you mentioned for UAE, alhough alcohol is expensive in SG.
-Locals aren't NECESSARILY superior like in the case of UAE, rule of law/justice is upheld regardless of who is at fault(local or foreigner), although the SG government does take care of its citizens well.
