You guys have access to some of the greatest cars. I think you can make more exciting videos with more innovative ideas than this. I love Autocar but you guys (and other big car channels) are lagging big time behind some of the newer reviewers.
I could see an interesting opportunity for a driver challenge here. How a bout getting a rally driver, an F1 driver, a drift king and anyone else that fancies themselves behind the wheel to sucessfully drift it around this pan ?
It’s not really a hardback anymore it’s like a sports car coupe rear wheel drive and v6 and that’s meant to be the same class as a 4 cylinder front wheel drive
Owned a trackday company back in 2005 (Trackshare) we had one - it was benign and dull to drive at 7/10ths (steering was vague and Laguna engine a bit languid) and then at 8/10ths it just spun and crashed - our clients never caught a single slide and just binned it all the time... more than any other car we had!
The other issue with a low grip surface is the shape of the slip/grip curve. Generally speaking, the lower the grip levels, the steeper the drop off in grip. In other words, on a skid pan you get a very small window of slip to play in before the grip just tails off to nothing. In a more typical situation on dry tarmac, or even wet normal tarmac, on road tyres there's a much bigger window and far more time to react.
Heavy V6 instead of lighter longitudinal mounted turbo 4 cylinder like in Renault 5 Turbo 2 which handled like a gokart and behaved well enough to win Rallies unlike clio V6 widow makers 😅
A great set of videos. I took my BMW i8 to the Thruxton skid pan to see how the whole petrol rear / electric front would work on a low friction surface and the answer was pretty well although trying to maintain a drift for a longer time takes a level of skill I don't have!
🙈🙈🙈 Why not ? Well cos it’s a series on mega 4wd hot hatches ????? Sorry had too !! And the v6 clio was all of the wrong designs , high COG mid engine as mentioned lock limits , the mk2 I had thankfully only ever went backwards in reverse gear, the spins remind me of every car Clarkson ever tried to drive even fwd 😂😂😂
Will it spin? Yes. Can you stop it from spinning? No. Still one of my favourite cars nonetheless.
lucky enough to have one, it does like to spin ,more than drift even in high grip
Given that there’s videos from over 10 years ago of one drifting I’m going to say yes.

I owned a phase 2 in silver for a year I loved the things ! Paid £15000 sold it for £12300 now worth £50000 5 years ago ! My biggest regret ever 🤨
Favourite hot hatch ever
Shouldn't be, pain in the ass to drive (shitty front end, minimum feel in the front, easy to die in)

This series is just sad press

Give it to Chris Harris.
Or Sutcliffe.
The corret title to this video must be "Will it end drifting sometime??"
I'd rather watch paint dry or grass grow than watch this again.
So cool to see one again
Please bring the previous generation Bmw 1 series.
LSD was never fitted to either V6 model!
Hi👋 Scott
Having 4 of AWD hothatches and not drag race them is a SIN, it really is, I'm not even joking!
Where’s Jean Ragnotti when you need him?! 😂
Went in one of these about 10 years back, was actually pretty disappointed back then

Give that Renault Clio V6 to Chris Harris to spin and hold the drift for you!!
sad story. I wonder why renault engineers always kept this very large steering circle. Seems like one of the easiest things to adjust.
I don’t know why but that Renault Clio V6 looks like it will drift very similar to an MR2 mk2
Still a great car on a dry road.
The question shouldn't be will it drift. The question should be do you have the necessary skills to make it drift? Probably not.
Cant wait for this car to be old enough to import. I mean I'm not going to import it but I hope somebody does.
the links are dead
I'll take a last gen M135i
Don’t need to watch this. I remember clarkson doing it in the dry at full speed not 2 mph
180's FTW ^^
Give me my 7 mins back please
bring the old Škoda Estelle!
a bald guy who cant drift in a wet surface, a really nice video showing the potential of that car. 🤦♂️
clio v6

modèle atypique qui n'est pas faite pour ça
et c'est turbo qui nous mets ça !!
🤣if you can’t do it I know I certainly can’t 🤣I could drift it into a ditch I guess…
This video sucks big time. Seeing you underachieving a mere rotation on a slippery surface at 5 mph isn't TH-cam worthy. This was painful to watch.
Utterly embarrassing video! Kind of sums up every Autocar video though....
I half expected to see/hear Steve Sutcliffe...
Nice
Call CRISHARRIS
Middle aged man attempts to drift a car for no particular reason in the most boring way possible.
I think I just wasted 7mins of my life….lovely ClioV6 though

Mother's drifter, you don't know how to steer and drive - drop this business and don't strain your ass)
A skid pan is not ideal conditions.
Give the Clio V6 to Takumi! He'll drift the hell out of the car!
Perhaps more pertinent would it ever not drift,
Backwards,
Into a to bush.
The word drift is thrown around to easily these days
How to have the worlds slowest accident!
There are cheaper hedge trimmers
