    I grew up in Cumbria, at most 10 minutes away from the Lake District, so I'm used to areas like this. It's interesting seeing how other people react to this place, it really is a wonderful area.

      I did the 3 peaks challenge last year, that's the highest in scotland, england and wales in 24 hours!
      I find Helvellyn harder than them all!

    • @hudsonquay
      @hudsonquay 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m inclined to agree. It’s all so accessible and easy to do in a day with a nice roaring fire in a welcoming pub at the end. The only shame is how most of UK forests and natural vegetation have been cleared for grazing. It makes for nice views I suppose.

    4:42 - I only tried climbing Helvellyn once. This was when I was about 14 with my late father, and the clouds came in just as we reached the same point as 4:42. I simply refused to go on as it was too dangerous. Dad agreed.

    I've been up Helvelyn loads, both on my bike and hiking. It's funny you got a guide, as it has really well marked paths and a tonne of people walking them, so pretty hard to get lost. I miss hiking in the UK, the mountains may lack in height but there's a huge network of old paths, meaning summits are accessible and you can be up and down in a day - usually with a nice old pub with a log fire to welcome you at the end. I live in NZ now and a lot of the hikes here are a lot more extreme.

  • @richardhunter7363

    I live fairly close to there on the West coast of the lakes - we used to have a view right down the Ennerdale Valley - when the cloud collected in the bottom of the valley, over the water, I used to tell my small children (they are now 25 and 22) that it was the breath of a dragon that lived down in the valley - it can look spectacular

Cornwall avoid winter (rains all the time) and August (thousands of families with kids) but the coast is better than south of Europe fancy holiday destinations.
