    Thanks for the excellent demo. I’m switching mine out on my 2002 Dodge Durango to LED’s. The light setup similar to your Dakota. Thank you! 👍

    My front console lights are dim also.. the rear one won't completely shut off but the front ones are doing the same thing. But if I lightly tap on the console they flicker. I'm wondering if it might be an electrical issue?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect that when you tap them, it's creating a temporary loose connection between the bulb and the cheap metal prongs that they rest in. I never had any issues with the battery in the truck actually dying, I think it's just the CAN bus style electrical system itself doesn't completely cut power and these come on dim since LED requires such little energy to operate. I believe that LED bulbs specifically meant for the CAN bus style system would fix this issue. Companies like Diode Dynamics specialize in this type of electrical system and "error free" bulbs. I just didn't know about it until I already got these bulbs.

    That's weird... I have a 2001 Dakota R/T with the same overhead console but it has the same 578 bulbs as the rear dome light, not the small 194s...
    Must be some weird in between model year things.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, they really made things complicated with multiple overhead console designs too haha.

    • @MikeB1972
      @MikeB1972 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony The Truck Guy I returned the lights I got and got two more 578's. So far they seem to be working fine but we'll see. I know how picky these things can be at times.....

    What is the part number for the small twist in bulbs that provide the back lighting.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back lighting for what? Haha

    • @dantregoning4115
      @dantregoning4115 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Back lighting on the upper console....there are two map lights...and 3 small twist in bulbs that light the background lights.

    After seeing your video it was a snap to change the halogen bulb to a much brighter LED one. Thanks to you this whole job took less that 2 minutes.

  • @silentsoul3289
    @silentsoul3289 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Idk if you’ll even se this with how old the video but what led bulbs did you use and can leds just be swapped in without extra modifications

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can’t remember the exact ones I ordered, but mine stayed on very dim all the time. Diode Dynamics may be worth looking into. They specialize in Chrysler lighting systems and maybe have some bulbs that won’t have that issue.

  • @armymatt83
    @armymatt83 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    problem is this doesn't apply to trucks without the console.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those ones are easier. I believe you just pry the lenses out with a screw driver.

    • @armymatt83
      @armymatt83 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      PkwyDr yeah but you have to be careful or you'll break the tabs that hold the lenses in place. that's what I did.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +armymatt83 they should be cheap though.

    Does this work for an ‘08 dakota?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never tried on an ‘08 body style unfortunately. I’m sure it’s possible to change them out, you just may have different bulbs. I’d pop your lenses off, see what you need and then order. And try to stick with a reputable company like diode dynamics, they specialize a bit more in Chrysler lighting and they make make bulbs that fonts stay on real dim like mine did.

    exactly what i needed to reinstall my rear overhead after it got knocked loose during some much needed cleaning, played with it for a half hour before finding this, never would have occurred to me to pop open the lens, but i never claimed to know anything bout cars :D

  • @rekojeht

    Thanks for the info, this also applies to my 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited. The overhead console is exactly the same.

  • @beachsidebum

    people are adding a resistor to the positive side to keep the light from glowing dim

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds about right. Oddly enough it never bothered me enough to do anything about it and now the front map lights are burned out 😂

    awesome video man, really appreciate the little note at the end about it still illuminating. my 04 does the same thing. also every step for my 04 is slightly different but your video gave me a good concept to go off of. Thanks again man, I did blue throughout everything but the 3 little one on over head and the climate control lighting

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy

      I’m wondering if a better quality, dedicated bulb would correct that issue, like a diode dynamics or something. Glad I could help!

    Is it possible to change out the bulbs on an 01 dakota without taking the whole console down?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have this style light, you have to do it this way. Other styles maybe.

    What kind of led light you used

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can’t remember it was a while ago but I would check diode dynamics or Lasfit. The ones I used stayed on really dim even when the truck was off because dodge electrical systems are weird and there was still a tiny bit of voltage going to them. I’d try to find a set that are specially for dodge.

  • @wolfdoggiestyle

    what if the interior lights dont turn off with the doors completely closed and you have to fidget with the dashboard light dimmer switch to get them to turn off?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's always a small amount of current running through the truck and LED's use very little power so they will always be on dim unless you mess with the dimmer. It won't hurt anything though, I left my truck for 2 weeks like that and didn't kill the battery.

    • @wolfdoggiestyle
      @wolfdoggiestyle 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I meant without the LEDs being installed.. my dome lights stay on unless I mess with the dimmer switch.

    What brand of bulb did you use for the rear light?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t remember, some cheap LED’s from online I think. I would get a little nicer ones like from Diode Dynamics or something. Hopefully those ones don’t stay on all the time like mine did as they seem to be more specialized for mopars.

      If you have the same light /overhead console as I do it will be the same steps

  • @mike9713
    @mike9713 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would this also be compatible with a 07?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Different body style so it will probably come apart a little different or use a different bulb but it’s the same concept.

    • @mike9713
      @mike9713 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony The Truck Guy where did you get the bulbs from?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they were from “superbrightLEDs.com”, but I would try Diode Dynamics instead. The ones I had stayed very dimly lit, even in the off position. Diode Dynamics specializes more in the electrical of Mopar stuff, so their lights might not have that problem.
