Glad I saw this comment, I missed that in the video and the after market headlights have a different turn signal setup. Also that bolt looks like a bitch lol
Unfortunately, he did not "point out" the fact that there are also two retaining clips that need to be depressed if the assembly is still fully functional. In this case, the clips were either damaged, broken, or defective. You can not remove the turn signal assembly by simply removing the #10 Torx screw if those two retaining clips are in proper working order.
Took 2 trips to the store to get right bit for that screw, I'm a plumber and nothing in multipacks of bits fit in in a bit holder. Got long T15 only to find out it's T10, owners manual doesn't specify 🤦🏼♂️
Thank you so much for this video. Just picked up my son a 04 Dakota. The headlights are definitely the first things needed to be replaced. You made it look simple as hell! 🤙🏻
Couldn't find the LED conversion video for this truck, just bought some and installed the rear LED but am getting the dreaded hyperflash. My Dak is an 01 so I think LED Flasher Modules is different for 2000 and earlier but really wanted to see your experience with it before I installed the front ones. A link or advice would be great if possible. TIA
Hey John, I went to the link for the headlights, but the lights its showing have amber side markers instead of white ones like urs. Does it actually come with white side markers?
There is a screw between signal lights and headlight take it out and the bottom slides out. I have same headlights but smoked and they suck the front reflector is way outta back and tosses the light everywhere you can't adjust them to be correct
Lol that is exactly how my bumper is on my 2001 dodge dakota V8 sport. I bought some headlights and again broken screws on them so can’t even adjust them though. My driver side sits well for alignment passenger doesn’t sit well but that is also the one with a broke screw that broke out of the assembly.
The upper an lower headlight assembly is actually 2 pieces (at least from OEM), so you can remove the lower to rotate the bulb out. The video covers this fact a bit later, but thought I'd post it in case TLDR.
Are the Depo headlights you linked in the description the same exact ones you installed? Just tryna get some confirmation because the picture of the ones on Amazon look a little different.
Righton .. intrested to see with the new headlight bulbs,an I’m jus trying to understand one part !!?? Did you only have to use those screw on brackets that came with them .. therefor not have to use old brackets off old headlights ? Sorry Im gettin tired lol as it’s late here in my part of the land an my brain is slowing down lol.. I think the Dakota will look much better too when you get your other size tires on those ones jus look too big, curious to see what size an type you go with .. keep up the good build an good content coming I’m enjoying ! 👍
I just bought replacement headlights for 1997 Dakota and seen the bottom bolt is hard to get to. You just showed an easier way to remove it. Thank you Great job.
2:14 almost every dakota on the east coast has a rust issue on the inner bottom part of the fender here. be sure when washing your dakota to clean up under the hood up inside the fenders, as they are prone to collecting dirt grit and road salt. notice how clean boosted's is, cali doesnt share the corrosion issues the east coast does. EVERY pick a part junkyard in the DC area has dakotas, but its rare to find one with intact front fenders. ALL IT TAKES IS 5min extra when washing to make these trucks last FOREVER.
Duuude, I need you to make a shopping cart off all the bulbs I need to do the same set up you you did all around, I’ve got my shopping cart set up close but I feel like I’m missing somthing or I’m gunna end up buying the wrong shjt
I have a 97 dakota, i purchased today new lights, but when i turn them on they don't stay on, like when i pull the lever they dont stay on, does anyone know the problem???
I have to wiggle the crap out of the knob to get the headlights to come on with my 98. I'm pretty sure it's that knob because the interior lights are finicky too.
Renewed mine by vibrating sanding just the headlight lense and then used a micro polishing compound. Look as new. Snip off the 3 nibs 220 grit till it felt like 220 400 grit till it felt like 400 800 grit............................. Polished and buffed with micro polishing compound. Look as new. It took a while but with some sweat equity you could save $$$$$$.
Best way to identify it could be just going to a Dodge Dealership with this video and playback the video to the person behind the counter. They may be able to pull up some schematics and might be able to identify that clip...can't hurt to try.
With those new shrouds, LED's are going to blind people in front of you and incoming traffic. Might look cool, but I would reconsider a different option. My suggestion, open those new headlights and add a proper HID installation with projectors and ballast.
If you removed the screw it would have been much easier most clear after market lights suck your better off with a factory style replacement I bought a set of clear ones for my 96 ram they weren't very good
Use HID instead man! I use them on my corolla and them ballast are good and super bright 50W . It’s a Hylux Canbus ballast 2A50 . I wanted to use them on my ram but they turn off I’m assuming I need something else on it .
for the ram youll need a canbus kit. LED headlights have come a long way, and might be easier for your ram! take a look on amazon, and be sure to check the fourms for your year of ram + canbus HID swap or CANBUS LED swap + your year of ram
Samuel p i really don’t need that . I was able to change the setting on my BCM telling that you have HID and LEDS on the rest of the truck. You can use Alfa OBD to change all those settings and more . I really don’t have all those wires and stuff .
First time changing 02 durago turn signals drove me crazy. Having a 2" T10 is lunacy for anyone but a mechanic and short bits in bit kits won't fit once installed in and any driver extension.
DO NOT REMOVE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. Just reach behind the light turn the clip counter clockwise. & Remove the Bulb & replace. it is three steps that’s it. PULL THE PLUG IN OFF THE LIGHT. Remove the Clip & pull the Bulb. No tool required. Just Hands!
Ok 1st off, take the entire 1st 3 minutes of the video cause it's evident you realized it mistake. Cut to the chase people aren't here to hang out we're trying to learn quickly cause we're already pressed for time. And I apologize to be an ass it just seems everyone wastes people's time for no reason all the time lately. My fuse has burned short these days.
Here are the DEPO headlights we installed:

how'd you get the headlights with the clear side marker im not a fan of the orange
Oh thank god You just saved me so much time. My headlights was so easy to get out on my 2001 dodge Dakota. Thanks man!
You can also remove the parking light on the stock headlights to get the headlight out easier
There is a screw to separate the turn signal and running light from the headlight. I'm glad you pointed that out.
Glad I saw this comment, I missed that in the video and the after market headlights have a different turn signal setup. Also that bolt looks like a bitch lol

What size are the screws for the entire headlight? Mine is lose i need new ones
Those are the headlights I'm swapping out!! This video is PERFECT THANK YOU
How’s the side piece white. All of the ones I’m finding are orange

got the same ones and this video helped alot thanks and their awesome!
Did they come with the white siding
Hey John, I went to the link for the headlights, but the lights its showing have amber side markers instead of white ones like urs. Does it actually come with white side markers?
Yeah the clear corner ones are discontinued I believe
@@BoostedMotorsports 😫
Did they require any beam adjustment or we they a true bolt in and go product?

How'd you do the cluster lights?!
I can't find these headlights only ones I can find gave the amber marker
Discontinued bud this video is 3 years old 😅
There is a T10 Torx screw between the headlight and the marker lenses.
I tried aftermarket headlights on my durango and the aim and light output on them suck!! Hopefully you'll have a better outcome
I can’t find the same headlights. The link takes me to one with an amber colored reflectors, not the clear like yours.
Apparently it was discontinued which sucks. Sorry I’m a year late lol
Are the headlights still holding up?
Looks great! You should get some aftermarket taillights also.
the lower marker assembly comes off with a torx bit or phillips then the main headlight assembly is held on with 3 ten millimeter bolts
I don't understand why almost all aftermarket assemblies are sold as one piece. None of them go on right
The upper an lower headlight assembly is actually 2 pieces (at least from OEM), so you can remove the lower to rotate the bulb out.
The video covers this fact a bit later, but thought I'd post it in case TLDR.

Dwane Casey I agree, need confirmation! The corners look amber from the link!
I would also like to know the same thing because the link looks like it still has amber corners
Still waiting in a response about the corner lights
