I think it's because a lot of them has more layers to their brand/music. For example, after Taylor made Lover which has some of the worst singles I've ever heard, she made folklore and evermore which reminds people of why they love her, just something down to earth and not heavily produced. It's not even only that, a lot of pop stars are known for something outside of music like their skincare or fashion. I think Katy just has pop under her belt and when it fails, she doesn't have any backup.
@@felitw10Beyoncé makes good pop, Gaga consistently tries new things. I don’t really listen to Taylor swift so I can’t say but the number of fans she has says a lot. Katy perry isn’t making good pop, she doesn’t try new things, and I don’t think she has that many fans left.
@@felitw10 she was a judge on American idol and I remember her being a meme just by existing quite a few times. So she has other things. But I see her more as a mom at the moment and she's not using it to make bank, who knows why. Thankfully, she has longevity as a singer, she's genuinely talented. She just needs to really rethink what she puts out. If she wants to milf money like Fergie, i wouldn't hold it against her cuz it would atleast be more genuine than this 😅 Tbh, i just need a good heartbreak anthem at the moment. Katy, please, if you're reading this.
I work out at an LA Fitness religiously and the other day they played Woman’s World on the gym speakers. Well, they played fifteen seconds of it and then brutally skipped to the next track. I’ve thought about that every day since then.
I feel like the age complaints aren't valid. The top female musicians of the modern age are all the same age and don't face the same issues. Taylor Swift is 34. Beyonce is 42. Lizzo is 36. Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande are both 31. Katy Perry is only 39. That's not old. Dolly Parton and Cher still put out music and are successful and they are nearing 80. This is not an age issue. It's a Katy Perry issue.
They may not share the same issue, but they do share the same fear. Which is probably why Rihanna gave up on the whole concept of pop stardom for eg. It always is ageism with women, people just dont want to say it. Especially after a woman gives birth, people just dont want her anymore anywhere but in the kitchen
She's not too old to be making pop music, she's too old to not have learned from her mistakes by now. Like many other celebrities, she got stuck in the time that she got super famous, and hasn't learned to evolve or push herself to try new things or pay attention to the changes taking place around her since
I don't even think it's just that reason for her insane flop considering it's the same case for Taylor Swift, yet Taylor is still super popular. Katy's failure is truly embarrassing and deserved honestly.
Is she too old to not lead impressionable young women into the orbit of a man I assumed was in jail but forgot Hollywood loves predators. Like does she for one second have the ability to think one step beyond herself and understand how her fans may fall victim to the man where she may be able to not due to who she is???
I disagree with D’Angelo when he said that Katy can’t make purposive pop she made Roar and Wide Awake which both had good messages be brave, and Wide Awake is about letting go of trauma that I still listen to a lot
I love so much that Kesha is having a second but more authentic and free round of her classic, carefree persona Honestly? I think she'd absolutely slay a hyperpop collaboration. Idk, get her in the studio with 100 gecs or Charli xcx or Dorian Electra
Absolutely. Still, the thing we need to consider is that Katy Perry likely doesn’t feel she has a choice. Dr. Luke and the rest of his industry run like an organized crime syndicate. There’s a massive blackmail operation in play and a great deal of underhanded manipulation and outright corruption to control artists and gain control of their output on the front end, and the rights to their catalogue and distribution on the backend. You don’t have to be a conspiracist to see the decades of open evidence. As Hunter S. Thompson once wrote, “The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.”
Kinda my feel tbh. I got an early dose of disappointment as a young lesbian when Katy Perry's I Kissed a Girl music video did not, in fact, contain any kissing, so I'm already jaded lol.
For me it was when she forcefully kissed (tricked) a young man to have his first kiss with her on national TV. I felt so bad for his victimization being aired. Thats the moment i said no more Katy.
@bloodflower11375 she might of grabbed him too. She's got a pattern. The young man I'm speaking of was auditioning for that singing show she is a judge on. He mentioned he was saving his first kiss for his wedding night. She was excited by this. Called him up to her acted like she was going to whisper in his ear, grabbed his face and forcefully kissed him on the lips.
@jj-lt7ly wrong. Look up entertainment tonight Katy Perry unwanted kiss and you'll see him say how uncomfortable he was etc. Stop victim blaming. Gross.
@@jj-lt7ly I don't hold him responsible for the things he said in shock right after the incident when a camera is shoved in his face and he's told to smile and he should be happy that moment was taken from him on live tv.
Kylie Minogue is almost an entire Olivia Rodrigo older than Katy Perry and she's still making popular records and had a global hit just last year. It's not Perry's age, it's her work.
Exactly. I can understand the outrage at working with Dr. Luke... but that's it. Literally eeeeverything else is selective amnesia, the heavy misuse of the "male gaze satire", the lazy scraping the bottom of the barrel feminism, the most generic "H&M shopping" rhythm mixing... Guys. It's Katy Perry. She's literally always been this way, have some of y'all been sleeping under a rock since 2014 too? hahaha
@@mollusckscramp4124 Even earlier than 2014, she's always been generic. She's the living definition of 2008 hot and all the toxicity that comes with it
I was just thinking about Max Martin, and how he has made chart toppers over the course of multiple decades. She really has no excuse to work with a scumbag.
"It's a woman's world and you're lucky to be living in it" just makes my blood curdle, knowing that a female doctor-trainee in India was raped and murdered in a medical school lecture hall. Like, yeah, we're so lucky. 🙄
Let's be honest for once; non-western (white) feminists have every right to hate on men. And I hate how anti-woke and fake feminist content overshadowed the real social, legal and political struggles women go through in countries that lack women rights (or it does have women rights, but only in paper with little to no actions to protect them).
It’s funny because, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” is everything Katy’s song wasn’t. Cyndi gets straight to the point in her lyrics and the video actually is fun
@lovelywallflower , IIRC it was a man essentially singing about how frivolous women are, she definitely overall elevated the song from just being an insult to women to actually being from a woman's perspective
@@arturoDelgado-d3p I dont think "working with an alleged sexual predator isn't the career killer you would hope it is lmao" is the slam dunk you think it is.

Katy needs to STOP working with Dr. Luke. It’s so telling how she disregards his horrible past all because she is stuck in the early 2010s… so she still think he’s a hit machine, but he’s a literal predator, but that doesn’t seem to move her. Also, his sound is so stale! Katy has to start working with other producers who will give her a fresher sound.
@@EJH783Kesha, another pop star from that time, accused him of committing SA on her. She was much younger than him, and he allegedly took advantage. I believe her.
Katy Perry replacing the underpaid construction workers from the images of Empire State being built with a bunch of women seems to be a perfect encapsulation of her brand of feminism.
I think it’s shocking how far Katy Perry has fallen relative to her pop peers in the early 2010s. Rihanna is seemingly done with releasing albums but she left on a high note and is still very well loved. Gaga is still going strong with solo work and continues to make great collaborative efforts (see the Chromatica remix album and her new song with Bruno Mars). And while Kesha has probably had the quietest pop career out of everyone else her music is still quality and after separating from Dr Luke she’s taken a lot more risks with her music, most of which have paid off. Meanwhile Katy has just completely flopped with every album post-Prism and at this point I don’t know if it’s possible for her to have any real comeback. It’s really unfortunate but I feel like she was doomed in a way because of not only how “of the moment” her biggest hits were but also her lack of ability to expand upon what she was already working with.
@@sleepdealer10 gaga with solo work?? All her hits and numbers are from collabs and her chromatica album has the same amount fo streams as SMILE by katy a solo album if you take out rain on me. And kesha is quite indeed any of her songs havent even cracked hot 100s

I want to start by saying I used to be a huge Katy Perry fan. like obsessed levels of fandom. I once went to 5 concerts in 5 different cities in one week in my late teens (I'm 31 now, so like 13-14 years ago). Katy Perry sang for my 18th birthday on stage and I once had dinner with her. That's how big of a fan I was. I "recently" met her, when I went to the witness album release / pre-listening party. And it didn't even feel like she was the same person anymore. Fame and Money 100 percent went to her head. She used to be funny and kind and it felt like she actually cared about her fans. And now she just feels like this estranged person with a god complex. Like almost britney spears breakdown levels of gone. I appreciate your video, because I have not been keeping up with KP news ever since the last time I met her. It's sad to see how the mighty have fallen.
I wonder if her American Idol judging has effected her personality in the way you describe her changed behavior. Because I can imagine being "a judge" on a major TV program- where humbled people are begging for approval from her to become pop stars, could give anyone a superiority complex.
@@ajqueen31 idk if i would say 7 1/2 years ago is recent lmaoo 💀 was that also after she stayed up for 3 days doing the witness world wide live stream?
Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but the juxtaposition of historical imagery between Rosie the Riveter and Lunch Atop a Skyscraper effectively demonstrates the complete lack of clarity regarding the purpose of her satire. Those men weren’t empowered, they were enduring. She’s completely eschewed the thread of working class resilience between these two ubiquitous pieces of American iconography and misappropriated them for a hollow message about women’s empowerment.
If she did it right, she could have used the Lunch Atop a Skyscraper imagery to demonstrate historical female oppression by comparing it to the suffering of the working class, then had an actual narrative in the vid and used the Rosie the Riveter imagery for empowerment later? Maybe someone suggested something along those lines, and she just heard the two image ideas and stuck them together idk. Ik its seen as empowering now, but even Rosie the Riveter is questionable when it comes to female empowerment. Wasn't it used to encourage women to work in factories to contribute to the war effort, before those same women were stripped of their jobs once the men returned. Ik that in the 50s my grandmother had to pretend she wasn't married so that she could have a job. So even using that imagery overlooks historical nuance.
I don't know if I'm being too smart but it could be highlighting the fact that both parties(working class and women) were routinely exploited, especially back then? I haven't seen the video, just the clips shown here, but it seems like she's satirizing the way people view AND interact with the modern history of women, just in a purposely obfuscated and tongue in cheek way? In which case the way everyone is reacting to it would be EXTREMELY ironic. I don't care enough to watch the entire video and see if I'm right.
@@jellojiggler1693We got to hear Katy’s vision straight from the horse’s mouth: “It’s like ooo aaaahh not the male gaze, but actually the male gaze. We’re having a bit of fun, being sarcastic.” That’s it. That’s as deep as it gets. She absolutely did not think anything remotely on the level of what you wrote. Katy is a lot of things, but scholar, feminist, class warrior, historian, rhetorician, brainy she is not.
The thing with her sounding “corporate” is spot on but part of it is how successful she was 10-12 years ago … the “corporate pop” sound we hear now is a watered down recreation of the 2010s pop sound that Katy dominated the first half of. Her huge success a decade ago and her failure to evolve/change her sound is why she’s failing now
I was just talking about how artists have to adapt their sound to whatever is popular to stay on top. Like if you do the same thing over and over, it'll get stale. Doesn't mean it's always terrible, just that it loses popularity.
But she was always watered down. That was part of her success because people wanted a watered down sound at the time. Now, it seems they don't. Or at least not like this
@@MaxOakland yeah. I think the only time she didn't feel watered down was maybe on her very first album, but after that I mean I guess she found her niche
@@alim.9801 I can kind of see that. Her first album had more of a unique personality. The production was pretty watered down though, at least compared to indie pop and rock of the time
Here’s my problem with Katy: she can’t envision a feminist movement she isn’t the center of. Yes I understand she’s literally the singer, the song is going to center her to some degree, but I think the negative side of the validation of her prior songs is that she sees herself as a feminist icon and props herself up accordingly. With all due respect to those who enjoyed her music, in my observation, she was only contributing to feminism so far as helping the self esteem of little girls, which is very very important! But it also shows the difference between “you’re a firework” and “this is me in Rosie the Riveter cosplay”. I think she also lacks the self awareness to recognize her inability to engage with more complex adult-level feminist discussion. I genuinely think making music specifically targeted at kids would be the healthier choice for her career than trying to be universal.
It's because Electra Heart is a concept album. Electra is a fictional character who represents four archetypes associated with women: house wife, beauty queen, homewrecker, and idle teen. It's an actual critique of the misogyny in western culture and something Katy Perry doesn't seem to know how to achieve.
"its a womans world and you're lucky to be living in it" during a period of time where we have overturned roe v. wade and are having our rights being actively stripped away at nearly every turn and are having such high levels of sexual violence being acted against us is absolutely fucking insane
0:20 the shark thing is sort of true. they can't smell desperation, but sharks have electrical sensors that pick up neural signals from a few yards away to help them sense the brainwaves of prey, and they go after panicking signals because in the wild that usually means an injured or disoriented fish or seal is nearby, and thus they can score an easy meal.
This is so so close, but not quite. They do have organs that pick up electrical pulses (called the ampullae or lorenzini!) but they don’t pick up on neural just the electricity that every living things gives on! People often show their fear in their water by splashing and thrashing which DOES mimic the same electric signals as an ill/injured struggling prey which may make them more likely to attack. So you were correct in saying that it’s sort of true! Just a little bit to the left :)
I feel Katy Perry's feminism is outdated. We don't want a woman's world (nor a men's world), we want a human's world where we all can be equal free from gender stereotypes....
The worst part was seeing her fans going from "she is contractually obligated to work with him, otherwise she'd never work with a rapist" (which was quickly disproven) to "Kesha is lying". Simply disgusting.
People are horrid and most have no morals or ethics anymore Welcome to the new world my Friending, the average person is soulless and doesn't care at all She will be fine, she may not make much money as the music is gash but she will be fine
Even if Katy Perry, in her heart of hearts, truly believed that Dr Luke did not do what he was accused of, it is still a terrible idea to work with him just from a marketing perspective. Whatever you believe about him, the immediate association most of the public has with his name is the allegations of abuse, so to tie him into your /women empowerment/ album is obviously going to make it seem disingenuous to most people. Bringing back Dr Luke reeks of a panic move made to try to recapture her former success, but the absence of Dr Luke isn’t the problem, it’s that times have changed and she hasn’t kept up.
As someone who grew up with Katy Perry and was 17 when Witness came out, I didn’t even know that she released any albums after Prism, even though I was literally her target demographic…
The choice to have "she's a sister, she's a mother" in lyrics is crazy to me, because it basically promotes this trend of saying to men that they should respect women because they could be someone's (presumably another's man) sister or mother, ignoring the fact that women deserve respect just on the basis of being human beings
Yup, am genuinely just annoyed at this state of discourse online right now. Men apparently have taken a collective online decision to become literal Neanderthals'. What on Earth is this nonsense discourse I see about being not able to control themselves around teenagers like that is a trait of a man to accept and admire. Excuse me???? Come online after having spent the most of my 20s raising kids not mine, not due to being forced, kind of have a moral pull and whole need to depending on how good of a role model your father was. Turns out the old man really set the bar for me to match him, and it's something ya got to do. One of the most horrific things I read online is how they believe that wealthy families all accepted their daughters were married off to abuse. The idea that all men were accepting of their daughter being domestically abused as a consequence of society is actually the most Jordan Peterson-esque thing I've read from a random poster. What is documented is that the husband and his whole family were beheaded for disrespecting her dad, the bigger patriarch and the disrespect being these people told him the son was a man in both actions and conduct. For all the mockery of feminism some people really lack understanding the "performative" part in performative masculinity. However men be on real men timing always, so got to live by the ole excuses are the nails to build a house of failure rule. What I truly do not understand is what has compelled miss Katy Perry with all her impressionable young girl fans she has, to become the literal lighthouse to the cove of rape that is Dr. Luke. I forgot Hollywood was where he was tried so assumed he was in jail. Also zero times was I ever in fear of any kind of false allegation of impropriety towards teenage girls not from them, not from their parents, not from no one. It's a pretty standard relief you were able to catch whatever caused this behavior and that it happened in a safe situation. Damn shame men still ain't clue into the actual reason the legal angle is the better one. Truly gives both a apt warning and understanding of behavioral conduct. It's loads better than the usual system and hopefully the deterrence does allow the safety to extend to all women, as the law is written. So disappointed in Katy like really she had to go and copy Ghislaine Maxwell level tactics out here?
Oh, the whole song is in line with this type of feminism that we have progressed past. The song should've been something like, "women are rising and healing the world" or something. Antifeminists already have this false notion that we're just trying to take over so we can enact the same historic cruelty back on men" or other bigoted fearmongering (eg, any variant of "they want rights just so they can take ours away as revenge!!") We'd love if she wasn't belting out "yep women own the world now, men should be thankful that we let them be alive!" (And I guess nonbinary people just, don't exist? Or are also "lucky to be living in it," and need to grovel to women too? This isnt equality, this isnt the goal. This is just oppression all over again, it's not cute) Like, Beyoncè's Run the World? It holds up. Her point is commentary on the unrecognised work women are already secretly doing throughout history, it actually achieves the punching up. And also wasn't released in 2024
Another thing is, there are artists out there that are giving the early 2010s vibes with their music but it isn't like this. It isn't straight ripped from 2012. No one wants music that is literally the same, but there is good music that has the same vibes.
You wanna know who just dropped a banger nostalgic pop song? Kesha! Go listen to Joyride, it’s fun and interesting and a total earworm in the way that only mid 2010s music can be
@@fortunatecookieSO TRUE! kesha is bringing back 2010s pop and im totally here for it, but i think katy perrys new albums just need to be forgotten about.
Funny thing is I thought her career was over when she put out Smile. Smile actually had some bangers, never really over should have been bigger than it was, it felt like a HIT from her older days. But the stink of witness really seemed to carry. When she put out good music and it wasn't even appreciated that's when I felt like it was over. Now she's putting out terrible music and she's doing it with someone she might not believe is a rapist but the rest of us do. And apparently nobody advised her or she didn't listen to anyone who advised her that the public would not take kindly to that. People keep saying this sounds like 2010 but honestly it doesn't even sound like 2010 to me at all. It just sounds really really bland
I just remember how unlikeable she was on American idol, and I think that's what really did her in. For me at least, the new stuff I've heard isn't terrible terrible, it's meh, but knowing she's not a nice person makes it that I don't want to listen to her anyway. The part that really screams she's chasing her early 2010s high though is the 143 that was a thing for like 3 months??? 😅 And it's just oof
For one example of an artist that’s doing fun, cheeky, pop music that is from Katy’s era: Carly Rae Jepsen She’s 38 as of this year, an independent artist, and still making fun, relatable music that isn’t quite as “mom” as Pink (not that there’s anything wrong with mom music). Her song and visuals for 2022’s “Beach House” are fantastic
But also, are we shocked that she's fine working with a predator, when she's used her fame to do really questionable things. Like I still vividly remember her kissing a minor on American Idol, despite him saying he wanted to save his first kiss for his future special someone. There's a whole weird Katy Perry iceberg that starts looking pretty concerning, and her working with a predator on a song about 'female empowerment' is just the cherry on top at this point. She's NEVER been a girls girl, she's just been better at fooling people in the past when she was putting out actual hit songs.
That has been her whole M.O. to me all the time. Her Fundie parents saw her marketability (read boobs and conventional attractiveness) and so did the folks they gave her to (label executives)several marketing cycles later we get this

If you told me that Katy Perry had gone into an Austin Powers-esque cryogenic sleep in 2014 and woke up ten years later to release this track, I would believe it. @drawingsticks5333 you joke but there literally is a scene where he refuses to sleep with a woman because she's drunk and it wouldn't be right. Austin Powers has higher standards than Doctor Fucking Luke
Considering Perry herself has been accused of non-consensual kissing and touching by three different people, I guess it's not that weird for her to have her women's liberation anthem be produced by an alleged rapist.
I stopped listening to Katy when on American Idol she kissed that barely adult (or maybe he was 17?) guy that had JUST told the panel he was saving his first kiss for marriage/the person he would marry. honestly white girlboss feminism is extremely out and I'm glad that this kinda proves it. In the 2010's I feel like the political landscape was changing but it was still pretty optimistic and one note, and for many obvious reasons that has lost it's appeal overtime. Also, did Katy Perry ever did "political messages" well? I just remember her Witness era being considered a miss by most people
Never understood "activism" that was just doing the toxic things to someone else. That's uh... quite literally paying the problems forward, perpetuating them, not stopping them.
Elder millennial comment: The problem is Katy was never that deep to begin with. Her whole career started one tongue and cheek ode to lesbianism, and that was enough to get controversy and vitality in the 2010's, it definitely isn't now. Her attempts at satire reminds me of when Jewel - singer-songwriter from the 90's who was considered hot, made a "satire" about music videos objectifying "women who are hot". Girl that source material leaves no breathing room for humor, plus she ended up using the song for a woman's razor and which made it 💯 vacuous. It's called "Intuition" btw I think there is a place for purposeful pop but tone deaf Katy Perry is not the spokesperson. The sad part she is actually talented, she should have done like Gaga and rely on her voice maybe?
I don't think it's a good song but it does very clearly appear to be making fun of that exact brand of vapid cash in feminism. I think maybe more effectively than it is being given credit for.
@@witchwhatwho if you're referring to women's world, I do think she intended it to be satire, but it didn't come across as such. The song just ended up being the exact same thing she tried to parody, and working with Dr Luke didn't do her any favors on her commentary on feminism
Katy riding off in the helicopter after stealing the ring light gives me the Sims stories/movies vibes. The really wild ones about giant babies or whatever. lmfao.
@paulthomas963 barbie wasn't trash,at all, it was one of the good feminist movies that exist, and katy's song wouldn't make sense since the message of barbie isn't " it's women's world" at all

@@bepinkfloyd814 Kesha has a song called 'Tic Tok' that came out around 2009. It's a bit dated but ultimately enjoyable if you can ignore one of the most poorly aged lyrics in history.
Woman's World sounds like a attempt at the Dua Lipa/Chapelle Roan/Charlie XCX genre of woman-forward music, but the person attempting it doesn't actually like that sort of music so it's an ironic "Haha could you IMAGINE?" vibe to it.

In a time where women everywhere are having their autonomy stripped away, having Olympians being docked points for nothing or being investigated for being trans, laws being overturned to further damage human rights- I cannot imagine being this absolutely tone deaf. This song is what reddit bros called the Barbie movie
@@PomuLeafEveryday This is all good and stuff you can hold these opinions BUT the point that it's CIS women being harrаssed for their victories because people ASSUME they are trаns
@@PomuLeafEveryday everything you just said is bullshit. This is being extensively studied and there are so few trans athletes that there is not enough data to come to any conclusion. You only believe this because the news reports on sensationalism as opposed to the many many trans athletes who go from 9th to 7th.
@@PomuLeafEveryday "naturally possible" - literally half the athletes on steroids - "NO NO NO THEY'RE NATURAL I SWEAR" btw being trans absolutely is natural and happens with other species as well, but hey that's too much science for you, Pomu, that's okay you can stick to picture books
@@PomuLeafEveryday 1. Cis women can also be taller, more muscular, or otherwise biologically different from other cis women. If your concern is "biological advantages", you should be advocating for a system where sports are not divided by generalizations about secondary sex characteristics, but instead by directly measured things like weight class, height class, muscle density, etc, or even something invasive like hormone range. This would ensure things are fair for all athletes, wouldn't it? Why is it fine for a cis woman to have biological advantages over her competitors, but not for a medically transitioned trans woman to have identical advantages? 2. Because biology is not particularly boolean, standards for "sex investigations" are extremely varied and usually exclude a bunch of cis people as well, especially for something like the Olympics, where all athletes are guaranteed to be outside the average in performance and training. No one has developed a test that actually successfully differentiates between cis and trans people with sufficient accuracy or consistency, because it is not a simple issue. Verification of medical records and personal history is the primary way to do so... and should be done by the organization, not random hordes of people on the internet. 3. Due to the state of trans rights across the world, "sex investigations" are extremely easy to utilize by bad actors as harassment and threat. The recently "investigated" boxer was a brown-skinned cis woman with a thoroughly documented personal history as a cis woman, who had competed in the Olympics before *and lost*. She was not "investigated" at that time. She was only investigated this year after winning against a white woman who handled her loss badly. Being queer is against the law in her home country. Many other cis women, especially non-white cis women, have also been harassed with accusations of being trans despite living and competing as cis women for decades. Serena Williams, for example. Women athletes are being harassed in the name of protecting the fairness of women's sports. 4. No elite sporting institution, to my knowledge, allows for trans women to participate in women's sports without undergoing long-term medical intervention which brings their biological functions, including but not limited to hormone levels and things that affect muscle development, in line with cis women's. Many do not even allow that. (I found a policy or two allowing trans men to self-select for participation in men's sports without medical transition.) This includes the Olympics. Furthermore, the personal and medical histories of competitors are already scrutinized by organizations like the Olympic Committee, for things like steroid use and safety concerns. Nondisclosed use or non-use of things like HRT would be caught in this process. The medical, social, and psychological effects of actual "false transition" are enough that vanishingly few people have ever attempted such a thing, and it is extremely unlikely that many more ever will. (Notably, an attempt at gathering men willing to falsely transition for a right-wing 'documentary' proving this threat to women's sports failed to find men willing to do this, even for direct financial benefit as part of the project.) Any such athlete who DID do such a thing would exclusively be awarded for performing under their "assumed gender", meaning they would either permanently have to identify as the "false transition" to retain that credit, or they would undo their lie and be immediately outed for the scheme, which no one of any political leaning thinks well of. Where, precisely, is the motivator to do this? Do you really think anyone motivated to do this just to, like, show women up would actually be able to sneak by with it and not face repercussions? 5. Trans women... can also be bad at sports. Even if trans participation in competitive sports wasn't low by population (which it is), the likelihood of a person both being trans AND being an elite athlete is extremely small. (Probability of two outcomes occurring together is calculated by multiplying their individual probabilities together. 0.5% of the adult population of the united states identifies as trans. 0.0000017% of the population [number pulled from google] reaches the Olympics. The resulting raw probability of a trans Olympic athlete is so small my calculator wrote it in scientific notation.) It's not, like... easy to be an elite athlete. An average man cannot actually walk into a woman's basketball league or swim meet and outperform them all. A trans woman could not win purely by dint of being trans. She would also have to be an extremely dedicated, skilled, talented athlete with the correct build and physical traits for her preferred sport. And binary trans people are a tiny fraction of the population. So no, a woman's team of athletes that allowed for trans women would not be 'entirely trans women'. Accounting for trans experiences (being denied medical care, dysphoria around gendered sports, dysphoria and discomfort around their own body in comparison to cis people, the risk of bigotry and alienation), most likely, most of the time, there would be none, even with extremely lenient policies. I get the worry about things becoming unfair. I acknowedge that by broad statistics, there are differences in physical traits between cis women and cis men, and that is part of why sex-based sporting categories were created in the first place. (The other reason being that women were originally not allowed to compete at all, and *had* to create their own leagues to gain access to competitive sport.) I also agree that some degree of vetting should occur for all athletes, and that rules of competition should exist. But the details of your concerns are not supported by evidence. Most trans athletes, like most cis athletes, want to compete in fair competition. Vanishingly few trans people have ever been in favor of the mythical threat of random people being allowed into competitions on an honor system, or some ban on verification practices. We just want those verifications to be evidence-based and fair, and not to be treated like criminals and cheats just for being trans. Wholesale banning trans participation either pushes them out of sports entirely (which *is* discrimination), or forces medically transitioned trans women into competition where they are disadvantaged, and medically transitioned trans men into competition where they may actually be at an advantage. That is also not a solution, and it distinctly shows a disregard for the experiences of trans people, and a devaluing of their participation in society. Public "investigations" of sex and identity for ANY athlete are invasive and usually abusive, and exclusively feed into conspiratorial 'concerns' about trans people as a demographic. They accomplish little in terms of keeping competitions fair, and punish cis women for their bodies and presentation. I implore you to look beyond the knee-jerk "common sense" reasoning behind these concerns and, if this is a subject you are sincerely passionate about, look for research on the actual prevelance of any of these issues. All advocacy work should be informed advocacy work. I recommend also looking at the effects of medical transition, studies done on trans participation in sports, statistics regarding both false transition and people who detransition, and general athletic science, including the physical traits and anomalies common to high-performance athletes. And, of course, for all studies check the source and structure of the research done, as well as vet it for recency, peer review, and possible mitigating factors (such as geographic region, self-selection of study participants, income level, incentive structures, and social or legal factors). Watch out for confirmation and observation bias in your research especially, as a polarizing topic like this will be especially susceptible to both. Anyway, in short-- if you support trans people, please hear us out on issues that affect us, and don't fall back on assumptions before you look into the data.
That wasn't even a comeback to 10-year-old me, it was a brand new era of pop, full-stop. And she's still going strong today while still remaining a decent person (at least from what I know.) Katy dominated for 5-10 years with what felt like 4 hits; Kylie's been at it for around 40 years with countless bangers.
Katy Perry went from being the second artist in history after Michael Jackson to have 5 billboard hot 100 number one songs on a single album, to not even being able to hit the top SIXTY with Woman’s World. The fall off is INSANE.
According to Wikipedia, Perry’s hits still score pretty well in New Zealand. I would suggest her to go on tour in the country where Lord Of The Rings was made.

"Settled out of court" means Dr. Luke was guilty but didn't want his name smeared publicly so he agreed to "settle" with Ke$ha for an undisclosed sum for her to basically drop it. The fact that Taylor Swift donated a bunch of money to Ke$ha's legal fund speaks volumes. Swift is an industry insider so she knows details about Dr. Luke and his behavior that have not been made available to the general public.

What hurts more is Katy's contemporaries (Swift, Beyoncé, Gaga, Kesha) are still active and thriving, proving it's not an age/era problem.

She's too rich to understand labour history i fear
We’re having a bit of fun, being sarcastic.”
That’s it.
How to be a Heartbreaker by Marina and the Diamonds is an actual satire, and that came out over ten years ago.
Same with Bubblegum Bitch, Primadonna, and a lot of the other songs from Electra Heart.
It's because Electra Heart is a concept album. Electra is a fictional character who represents four archetypes associated with women: house wife, beauty queen, homewrecker, and idle teen. It's an actual critique of the misogyny in western culture and something Katy Perry doesn't seem to know how to achieve.

The choice to have "she's a sister, she's a mother" in lyrics is crazy to me, because it basically promotes this trend of saying to men that they should respect women because they could be someone's (presumably another's man) sister or mother, ignoring the fact that women deserve respect just on the basis of being human beings
it's trying to train people to have empathy. which is wild, that some seem born without that or common sense.
When a woman is defined by her value to a man 😍
Yup, am genuinely just annoyed at this state of discourse online right now.
Very true
Oh, the whole song is in line with this type of feminism that we have progressed past.
The song should've been something like, "women are rising and healing the world" or something. Antifeminists already have this false notion that we're just trying to take over so we can enact the same historic cruelty back on men" or other bigoted fearmongering (eg, any variant of "they want rights just so they can take ours away as revenge!!")
We'd love if she wasn't belting out "yep women own the world now, men should be thankful that we let them be alive!" (And I guess nonbinary people just, don't exist? Or are also "lucky to be living in it," and need to grovel to women too? This isnt equality, this isnt the goal. This is just oppression all over again, it's not cute)
Like, Beyoncè's Run the World? It holds up. Her point is commentary on the unrecognised work women are already secretly doing throughout history, it actually achieves the punching up. And also wasn't released in 2024
Another thing is, there are artists out there that are giving the early 2010s vibes with their music but it isn't like this. It isn't straight ripped from 2012. No one wants music that is literally the same, but there is good music that has the same vibes.
You wanna know who just dropped a banger nostalgic pop song? Kesha! Go listen to Joyride, it’s fun and interesting and a total earworm in the way that only mid 2010s music can be

Chappell Roan is a good example I think. Her songs remind me very much of the 2010s
For one example of an artist that’s doing fun, cheeky, pop music that is from Katy’s era:
Carly Rae Jepsen
She’s 38 as of this year, an independent artist, and still making fun, relatable music that isn’t quite as “mom” as Pink (not that there’s anything wrong with mom music). Her song and visuals for 2022’s “Beach House” are fantastic

Love how Kesha is having an actual real comeback without even trying and is demonstrating she’s still relevant…whereas Perry who collaborated with Kesha’s alleged grapist is receiving her karma right in front of the whole entire world.
Right! And Kesha's Joyride is soooo good
She does have a headstart considering the most popular app is still named after one of her songs 😛

Its sounds so kesha with modern production style

Considering how Katy grew up its weird that We are getting this kinda music now. I would've expected this in the beginning of her career not now.
I loved Kylie Minogue's 2000s comeback, it was so futuristic for its era, fun well-made and honestly Katy should've taken notes💀
That wasn't even a comeback to 10-year-old me, it was a brand new era of pop, full-stop. And she's still going strong today while still remaining a decent person (at least from what I know.) "Settled out of court" means Dr.
When you settle a case you're not necessarily guilty. You just want the lawsuit out of your life.
