    Kylo Ren's such a great character. You already know in one movie that he is a conflicted character, not as powerful as people think he is, and is also a murderous asshole! This scene was so well written and executed because Han Solo was still the same guy we know and love but we saw a side of him no one else knew. We can tell he loves his son no matter what even when he is stabbed. Hell when he touched his face before he fell we knew that Han is accepting his fate and Ben is still his boy.

      Yes, and exactly the reason his death will have a direct impact on his sons redemption. I don't believe Hans death was for naught.

      Neither do I. Han lived on his own terms, so it seems fitting that he dictate the terms by which he dies.
      Khan, from Star Trek: Into Darkness said this: "Is there anything you would not do for your family?"
      He asked this to Captain Kirk, who would (SPOILER ALERT) die to save the lives of a lot of people.
      Ben Solo asked Han a similar question: "I know what I have to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it. Will you help me?"
      Han Solo's reply: "Yes. Anything."

      @BloodyFlowerFilms 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      +Stephanie Mitchell I don't know, for once, I really want a villain who should not get redemption or even wants it. Kylo should just get more and more evil as these films go along until he's inevitably cut down once and for all. You don't just go and kill Han Solo and get redeemed!

    • @stephaniemitchell8509
      @stephaniemitchell8509 7 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      +BloodyFlowerFilms Kylo has been groomed for exploitation by Snoke since birth. If an abused child doesn't deserve redemption, I don't know who does. Besides that, he's the last Skywalker. If he dies, their legacy dies with him.

    I love the symbolism in the lighting. Half of his face is lit in red and the other half in blue, representing his confliction between the light and the dark. And then after he kills Han, all of his face is lit in red, because he chose the dark. It's very subtle but it's brilliant.

      This was a whole different scenario. Vader would have killed Luke if the battle continued. Kylo killed his father through manipulation. Plus he was unarmed. How was he fucking marvelous? He was actually cowardice.

      DarnChaCha It's actually the other way around, Vader is strong and Kylo is weak. Kylo gave in to the dark side, Vader resisted it and broke free from it's grip. In the end, Kylo remains a slave of the dark side, and Vader breaks free from it's grip.

    It gets even sadder when you read about what else happened in this scene in the novel.
    (Quote):
    " _At first, Han didn’t feel anything except a piercing heat in his chest. Then his lungs didn’t work. His heart stopped beating. His legs wobbled. He lost his feet. The fiery blade sank deeper. And he knew that this time, this impossible situation was one Chewie couldn’t save him from. In the last few seconds of his life, he thought of the Falcon and his furry first mate and his beautiful princess, but he saw only his son. The darkness in his eyes. And the sadness. Han forgave his son for what he had done. He prayed someday his son would forgive him in turn._ "
    The saddest part is when Han feels his son's face for the last time, and you can see Han forgave his son in his dying breath. My feels man.

    Does anyone notice the way that the camera is behind Han (facing Kylo) that there is a division of blue (on Han side) and red (on Kylo/Ben side) color, and once the sun is blocked the whole room turns red. That's when poor Han dies. :( Does that resemble the light and dark side?

      @@christianschmidt8476 The cinematography is overdone. They use the blue and red, the fading star and the red lighting to symbolise him turning to the dark. It's incredibly amateur. Feels like the cinematographer wanted to practice all three but only had a single scene to do it. Just pick one.
      Also the cloud-covered sun fading out is lifted straight from Revenge of the Sith. Might want to rethink that statement Schmidt.

    • @J_Rossi
      @J_Rossi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Solus 2016 Well, we know that Kylo is very sensitive to the Force. Particularly he seems to be something of an empath. Able to feel thoughts and emotion very strongly.
      I think it's safe to say that on some deep level, Kylo had felt abandoned by his father, so maybe that look is one of surprise and a kind of wonder or awe or both, because at that moment after the stab, I think he can feel the truth.... that his father does love him, and pehaps is sorry that he wasn't there for him like he should have been.
      In any case, I believe that his father's love, combined with regret and remorse over what he did here, may combine to help Kylo Ren to become Ben Skywalker-Solo once again, as he gradually turns back to the Light Side of the Force.

    Han:"Son, return to the light"
    Kylo: "Eat my shorts!"
    Han: "Why you little!!!"(Starts to choke Kylo)
    After that, Han and Chewie takes unconscious Kylo on Millenium Falcon, blows up Starkiller, and returns back on resistance base-planet.
    Then, Han reunites with Lea and gives her a nice smooch(like in the old days) and they all go visit Luke.
    And in the last shot, when Luke turns around, he sees all his friends.
    Han: "How you doin kid ?"
    The End.

      You know what I just noticed. After Han falls the camera shows kylo's face. Towards the end of the shot you can sort of see his lips moving. Then the next shot we see Leia react. Could kylo have communicated with Leia through the force in some way?

    • @stephaniemitchell8509
      @stephaniemitchell8509 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +DAANStudios No, when he opened his mouth a bit and his eyes widened, that was him sensing that killing his father didn't lessen his inner torment of his light battling his dark like what Snoke made it out to be. He was severly emotionally weakened by it, needing anger at Finn and punching his wounds for pain to fuel the dark in him. Leia has a natural sense of the force, so being closely bonded to Han most of her life, she could feel it herself when his essence left the universe.

    Honestly, what if Han activated the Lightsaber and killed himself? He knows Snoke wants his son to kill him, and Ben tells him that he doesn't have the strength to do it. Ben never says it, but I think Han knows what he means. So, he helps his son kill him. But why would Han do that? To get his son to turn away from the Dark Side. If Kylo Ren kills him without assistance, his journey towards the Dark Side will be complete. But if Han does it, then there is still good in him.
    This is probably not the last time we see Han Solo. He might show up in a dream sequence, or a hologram recording, or maybe Rey comes close to death and meets Han, who tells her how to speak with people who can't be Force Ghosts. That would be acceptable.

    I think this scene is pivotal in Kylo's character, Han is the last bit of light left in Kylo's way to become fully seduced by the dark side of the force. Hence the beam of white light behind Han and Kylo is very much in the dark. You can see the instant regret in his eyes after Kylo kills Han. ❤️ Adam Driver is an amazing actor!

    • @SliverEmperor
      @SliverEmperor 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      The beauty of it is that it's set up to seem like Kylo's plea to Han is a cry for help to shake off the Dark Side and Snoke's influence...and then you notice how the light is being blotted out in the background, and how Kylo isn't letting go of that lightsaber...
      ...And then the fatal moment comes, and you realize that Kylo wasn't asking Han to save him. He was asking Han to seal his turn to darkness by letting him destroy the last real chance he'll probably have to redeem himself without dying in the process.

      He is, because by the time the last film comes around he'll be as iconic as Vader but in a totally different way.
      I still don't think he's completely lost though - not only did he feel remorse but Han forgave him; this scene wouldn't have been half as powerful if he hadn't stroked his face at the end.

      My feelings changed since I first saw it. At first I was emotionally devastated for Han, but now I also feel it for Ben. The fact that the evil forces behind things like the First Order require your soul, not just your service, is terrifying. They perform mind games, testing loyalty in the cruelest ways. After this act Snoke trusts his loyalty enough to finish training him, never before, because he knows Ben has the capacity for compassion, the very thing that caused Vader to betray his master. If you can divorce him from his compassion, you can win yourself a devoted slave to the dark. Thing Snoke doesn't realize is that it didn't have the effect on Ben he was hoping for. If anything, he's closer to the light after facing the love and forgiveness of his father during his darkest, most treacherous moment. Much respect to Han. He gave his son the one thing that will save him in the end, and will most likely come to fruition when he faces the demise of his mother.

    • @gfggism
      @gfggism 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My feelings haven't changed but at the same time they have. Let me explain. When I first watched Han die in the theatre I felt nothing...that's right I didn't feel anything when Han died. Mostly because I saw it coming from a mile away so there was no surprise to it. If anything I was irritated but that happened after the movie not because he died but because it was so obvious and the build up was poor. They could have done it much better. Now though I just don't care. I still feel nothing when I watch this but I just don't care enough to get frustrated this time.

      +ShadowJedi Well, okay then. lewl. To be honest, almost everyone sensed it coming, but we sat there with a sense of dread in the pit of our stomachs while we waited, daring to hope against all odds. Our dread intensified the moment the light died and bathed Kylo in red. The foreshadowing along the way was intentional, meant to build our emotional responses. From dread, to a glimmer of hope, to fear and incredulity, to grief, to anger, and some of us even experienced empathy for Kylo at his father's forgiveness. It was really well done and the acting was phenomenal, but I guess it can't please everyone.

    Look at his face when Han falls, he never wanted to kill his father but he had to BECAUSE... to become a Sith Lord you have to kill someone that you love. I think that Ben had decided to infiltrate the First Order to bring it down but he had to be noticed by Supreme Leader first, so he betrayed his Uncle and dismantled the new Jedi order. Once Snoke took him on as Kylo Ren, Snoke still sensed the light in him and Kylo knew this, and so did Han. Han knew what he was doing and he knew he would have to be the help his son to get close to Snoke so he could destroy him. I hope this turns out to be the case so that Kylo can be redeemed similar to Anakin.

    Why did you do it, Kylo? How could you kill your own Father, betray the New Republic and the New Jedi Order? How could you stand by and watch the First Order kill millions of innocent lives. Your Grandfather fell to the Dark Side because he only wanted to prevent the one he cared about from death his emotions blinded him. But when he saw your uncle being tortured by the Emperor the illusion was broken he finished what he should've done at the end of the Clone Wars, by killing the Emperor he met his destiny as the Chosen One. He fulfilled the Jedi's prophecy and saved your uncle's life at the cost of his own. Darth Vader was nothing more than a shroud of Darkness that consumed Anakin Skywalker. You belong with your Family and the Light Side of the Force.

If you don't turn to the Light Side you'll regret what you have done to serve the crumbling remains of the Galactic Empire. The Sith only see you and hundreds of their servants as expendable who will do nothing but fight for reasons they don't understand and causes they don't believe in and die for it all all the same. Destroy the Sith, it's what your Grandfather would want, you do not want to make the same mistake he made.

When it happened, 50% of me expected it, as the sunlight above faded before Hans death, which signifies darkness in Kylos eyes as he kills his own dad. I was pretty upset, seeing an important childhood figure wiped out, and the pain in Chewies and Leias hearts when Han died made me even more sad, seeing your friend or husband die, so sad, but an awesome movie, comes 2nd out of 7 movies

      I do think Kylo is being set up for a redemption arc, but I hope it's different than Vader's. I don't want Ben to die like his grandfather. He should turn back to the Light Side of the Force and help to rebuild the new generation of Jedi that he had once destroyed.

    • @Rachel-mq4yj
      @Rachel-mq4yj 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally agree!! I just have that feeling that Kylo Ren will die at the end of the trilogy but I hope that he doesn't!! Yes, I want him to be redeemed but, in a way that is new and fresh and not done before with just a slight hint of nostalgia and parallels. I also hope Rey is not a Skywalker -- whether through Luke or Leia. I just feel like if she and Kylo Ren and Rey are siblings or cousins, and she's somehow tied to his redemption -- -then I feel that it would be too similar to how Vader was redeemed because of his familial ties to Luke. You know?

    • @J_Rossi
      @J_Rossi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Rakel Grace Well, that really depends on how they do it. My own thoughts go like this:
      We know that Anakin fell because of romantic love for Padme, plus through the trickery of Darth Sidious (Palpatine). It took the love of family to bring Anakin back. Luke helped him.
      I've long felt that Ben (Kylo) fell because of what he felt was a lack of love from his family, and a "messed up" family life. Snoke probably took advantage of this.
      So maybe we'll get a reversal. The same romantic love that "doomed" Anakin may help save Ben. In the prequels, the romance was between Anakin and Padme. In the original movies, it involved Han Solo and Anakin's daughter Leia. Both romances involved a Skywalker, and we know that Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) IS a Skywalker by blood because Leia is his mother.
      So, maybe this time we'll get Ben and Rey as the romantic "heart" of this story. At the same time, I think Kylo should become Ben again and turn back to the Light Side of the Force due to his own regret and remorse over killing his father. Knowing that his father loved him, that love should make a big difference. Han should ultimately succeed in helping to bring Ben home, even though he had to die to achieve it.

    • @J_Rossi
      @J_Rossi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rakel Grace Also, I don't think Rey is a Skywalker because that would take all the struggle that Kylo is going through and would make it meaningless. If Rey is Skywalker number two, then it doesn't matter what happens to Ben, the Skywalker family will be okay.
      If Ben is the only new Skywalker, then he must return to the Light Side of the Force or the family will end in darkness, tragically. There are much higher stakes.
      I think it would be better if Rey somehow turned out to be the grand-daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Both families have been connected throughout the other two trilogies, with the Kenobis always guiding and helping the Skywalkers.
