Her speaking voice was so trebled. So when she projected her whole voice, it's this enveloping affect that just takes over your body. It's rich, full, feminine, sultry, sexy and has me feeling all types of ways at once. It almost catches you off guard.
ha that's what I was trying to say ......I think? ty for saying it so classy tho. and never fading or getting "old" ya know. tG we can see her ...some are banned?
I just started listening to more Sarah Vaughn via TH-cam. Ella does a wonderful rendition of this song, as well. Sarah's voice is amazing. I love singers like her and Ella and Nancy Wilson. Their phrasing is impeccable. They caress the melody and lyrics. No screaming or oversinging. I have nothing against power singers but I love these singers and how they interpret songs.
It's special to read comments about Sarah on I tube. I often have stated she is the best we ever had. Many people agree. God bless her soul ___ her music will be with us forever
She was so, so very special !..a voice that comes along ...only in three lifetimes.I could listen to that beautiful voice instrument all day long.I played Trumpet , Coronet and Baritone and would like to hear a little muffled horn with that wonderful voice of Miss Vaughn's . db
1:27 Did my ears hear her sing dat tritone over dat chord?Damn!!! She makes it look effortless, but the intervals she sings with those chords. That harmony!🤯
@@julianmitchell3035 if you're talking about the vocal note she ended on, it was neither a B5 or a B at sll lol, she ended on a G4 😊 utterly gorgeous note choice paired either the chord
Billie holiday song. But Sarah slayed it. Took control from the first moment she opened her mouth. Miss Holiday. Her style never touched me. This is like climbing the stairway to heaven
Billie Holiday can never be "slayed" ! Although incredibly beautiful by Sarah this will always belong to Lady Day ❤️ The greatest singer that ever has graced this earth.
Whew 😬😬😬 that PIANIST IS AMAZING, & those harmonies are mind blowing. Sarah's ear is BEYOND, & of course that vocal instrument is not matched. No time to talk type... rewinding.
It's a gorgeous and expressive version. Authentic (and rare) artists truly make the song their own, and Sarah Vaughan, whether on recordings or in live performances such as this, does just that. That first bridge she sings here drifts in so subtly, caressingly....then later she sweeps the listener along on the same melody and lyrics so powerfully --- it takes your breath away! Divine Sarah lives. Thanks for sharing this moment of musical genius!
She is fantastic of course... But what is this crazy harmony? :) OMG isn't it soooo gorgeous! Why haven't I ever heard of this amazing piano player until now? THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

@@ph0g275, thanks. I never knew the source album for that cut, but its languid delivery and perfect depth charms me so much that I can't bear any other of Sarah's other versions. Lol.
@Daryl Sledge, you're right. People often compare because there is a great spirit of dissension in the world today. But I, who am a great lover of Sarah (lol), compare because her other version is simply, well, DIVINE! Once you've heard it, this one sounds almost cartoonish.
@@TheWriterWalker I've heard both versions. Actually the one you referenced in your link first and yes it is indeed Divine. However, I appreciate Sarah's musicianship in this rendition. The notes she chooses, the intervals she sings, the harmonics she utilizes, really showcases her vocal instrument. Really this version a great interpretation for a vocal music study in a jazz harmony class for a vocalist. Her other version, released on an album song more straight. Still, Sarah Vaughan is Sublime.
Her speaking voice was so trebled. So when she projected her whole voice, it's this enveloping affect that just takes over your body. It's rich, full, feminine, sultry, sexy and has me feeling all types of ways at once. It almost catches you off guard.

She has the most amazing voice. She was blessed.
You do a great job of describing her effect on us all.
The night is so cold… I go to bed, a prayer that you’ll make love to me…a hugging and a kissing oh what we been missing🎶
Rich, full and sultry... Oohhhh that can never catch me off guard. This is my kind of woman.

I'm so glad her performances were captured on video. She is such a divine singer!
Her voice is like a jazzy opera !
When she sings it's pure gold pouring out of her mouth that's the best way to explain it. Such an incredible voice. ARNOLD BOURBON AMARAL
One of a kind, that will never been seen again.
It’s really not about comparing or competition but for me she’s the ultimate. With Ella and Billie a extremely close second.
Check out Nancy Wilson

OMG My head just exploded. This is some of the most masterful singing in the universe! WHAT A VOICE!!!! Phrasing divine.

Simply amazing!!! That sly look she gives the camera at 5:08. She's like, I can do this all day... 💝
I love that woman
Tears..... Just tears.... One of the best of Sarah...
In Holidays version you hear and feel the pain, in Vaughns the joy.

Sarah's voice becomes an important force in the novel AMAZED BY HER GRACE (by Janet Walker).
Being with Sarah Vaughan echoing in my head sneaking to my heart 💜❤️💋🌹❤️💋

Oh my goddess!
I don't know why but I'm feeling so sad
I long to try something I never had
Never had no kissing
Oh, what I've been missing
Lover man, oh, where can you be
The night is cold and I'm so alone
I'd give my soul just to call you my own
Got a moon above me
But no one to love me
Lover man, oh, where can you be
I've heard it said
That the thrill of romance
Can be like a heavenly dream
I go to bed with a prayer
That you'll make love to me
Strange as it seems
Someday we'll meet
And you'll dry all my tears
Then whisper sweet
Little things in my ear
Hugging and a kissing
Oh, what we've been missing
Lover man, oh, where can you be

That the thrill of romance
Can be like a heavenly dream
I go to bed with a prayer

How can she speak in such a soft, little-girl tone, but sing in such rich, varied keys? Keys, hell, she can sing in four octaves.
