I love this topic. Sound is much more influencial to the behavior of living organisms than most people might think. We really could and should be utilizing it to make our world a better place.

Excellent......you covered this topic so well. I'm giving an interview for a UK documentary tomorrow on the power of sound to influence state. The Brian Eno eg is fantastic. The NHS needs to look at this in more detail! We are living in a time where the interaction between art and science is coming alive, and sound is a very important part of that and how it influences our perception of our environment and the mental models it creates.Great talk.Thank you for sharing.

7:24 - He smartly emphasized on "Hundred" in 130%, making it seem like a huge increase, when it's merely 1.3 times. So it's the audience of this Ted talk that actually got convinced with his audio brand. 😀

Wouldn't an increase of 130 make it 230%? Like if Sales increase 30% they've gone up 30% so an increase of 130% means 230%?
Hence why its amazing as they've more than doubled sales.

Hollywood, and, in fact, during the pre-Hollywood days of radio, there was distinct awareness and use of sound varieties, mixes to produce radio shows.. -Sounds (and music) to facilitate various moods and mindsets (in the listener) such as suspense, excitement, terror/foreboding, tension, uplifting/upbeat sounds for morning, or at the seaside, and so on.. Old information. This use/application of sounds (as a vital tool) carried over into film/movie production, TV production, etc. and commercialism to help sell products/services. And it has its use in propaganda operations.

John McLaughlin (great guitarist) mentioned how he wanted to play 'silence' more profoundly. Sound can be perceived and/or appreciated from the place of silence, and vice versa. There is much truth in this video. Languages and music are in themselves only sculpted sounds.

Public schools, hospitals, nursing (care) homes, prisons, food preparation areas of McDonald's (which are horrendous with beeps and alarms). The following, including softly piped out to their parking lots; Post Offices, Dept. of Motor Vehicles, malls, stadiums, etc. In all politicians' and medical professionals' offices, music which invokes clarity with the subliminal messages, "Be honest, be fair, do good".

It's hard to fit everything into an 18 minute TEDx talk. 😉 So many sonic "building blocks" have an impact on our perception and behavior: tempo, pitch, dynamics, modality, harmony, timbre, etc. I decided to frame the talk less about psychoacoustics and more about perception. There's such a wealth of research available on the power of sound(s), my hope is that regardless of the listener, there's enough here to inspire the listener to dig a little deeper - and listen with a new set of ears.
