    I'm not a 3 gunner, never had the time. I learned 2 things, I never heard of or saw Ascend Armory Receiver sets, (they do rock) and I never saw a 16 in. barrel with a rifle length gas block. I guess I'm just a pedestrian Mil-spec guy. Another great review and video Dave. Thanks!

      Thanks for watching, Ascend isn't a household name yet but I've been very impressed with their stuff. The barrel is an experiment, we will see how it goes.

    i've been wanting an ascend set for quite a while. sad to say, i'm most likely giving up on the wait. been probably close to 5 months now and i've had all the parts to my build ready to go. i'm in the market for another lightweight billet set, and i'm looking for suggestions

    Shes a beaut! I really like AAs receivers.
    FULL ambi bolt control has become MANDATORY for me and AA is one of the few to offer a fully integrated and FULL ambi bolt control feature.
    Damn good looking too!
    Ive got a build planned for this year and will likely start with AA receivers.
    If it turns out as nice as yours ill be very happy!

    Nice setup .
    I wish I had more time to shoot comps man . It was so much fun .
    My comp setup was
    BCM-URG-MID-14.5" E.M.W.F.-Pinned Comp Mod 1 -CMR 12..
    I used BCM Ambi Charging Handle. I used an old Eotech 553 SOCOM with Troy / BCM Folding BUIS .
    For the lower I used an Aero Precision Lower with all ambi controls . I got a limited edition one . It came with PDQ Ambi Bolt release , BAD ASS 45° , and BCM Mod 3 GFG . I did put in a CMC 3.5 Single Stage , BAD Lever , B5 BRAVO.
    Like you I have became pretty fond of the BAD ASS short throw . I only use Single stage triggers. For the longest time I used the ALG ACT or a Nickel FCG .
    I used a Colt H2 Buffer and Spring .
    We only shot out to 200 yards so magnification really wasn't needed. I used Freedom Munitions 77g BTHP.
    Before I starting using that setup I ran a Complete Colt LE6920 M4A1 SOCOM 14.5 Block 2. That bad boy is a tack driver . Heavy as crap but it's still my go too for 14.5.
    I never got into it too hard where I needed to spend a crap load of money to shoot . I really just used what I had . I already had a the BCM so I just swapped barrels .
    If I were to do it all over again I'd still use the same lower but get a Noveske Afghan 14.5 Upper.
    A Co worker uses the Afghan with a Colt Lower and he wins local matches all the time . That afghan barrel is one of the most accurate barrels I've seen with own eyes. He is shooting 1.25 moa or less all the way to 450 yards using MK262

    Great setup. I have 2 SMOS receiver sets and they're fantastic. Shame they went back to just doing OEM manufacturing but I'm sure that's much more stable revenue. If the rifle length gas doesn't work out for you, I would recommend an intermediate gas length (in between rifle and midlength) barrel like a Stretch 16 or Rainier's new one. They're a great balance for a competition (pricey though).

    Really nice weapon. I don't know that I would go with the rifle length gas system, but you know what you like, and I totally understand your philosophy behind it. I wonder if it would soften your rifle up more by using a JP single gas ring and captured buffer spring system? Good video. "Thumbs up" from this Kentucky boy.

    Looks cool but it's over a pound heavier than my 308 ar with a 3 x 9 hunting scope same length and it doesn't even have a pencil barrel.

    • @UN12actual
      @UN12actual  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hunting and a competition rig have different purposes, if I was hunting light weight would be priority. This is a game rifle for smooth fast shooting and the weight helps keep recoil rise to a minimum.

    • @MrHannible
      @MrHannible 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UN12actual@GUNS & TACTICS I disagree, a lighter gun is faster in transitions, and maneuverability, also some of those stages aren't short, and you will be running quite a distance at full speed with that bolder in your hands. Multiple off hand shots would tear tendons in your shoulders, just picking it out of a barrel, or off a table, and loading it while holding it with one arm, would be a horrible experience. Once you have a gun tuned i.e. lightweight BCG, adjustable gas block, light buffer and spring, muzzle brake, custom tuned ammo, etc, recoil is not an issue with 223 or even a 308 AR, touching double taps all day. A gun that weight in in 223 5.56 in my opinion is useless, and was a poorly thought out build. You aren’t shooting PRS, F class, or Bench rest with the thing for god’s sake.
