I'm 80 and decided to buy my Pixel 7a, based on your comparisons, from my giffgaff provider. It cost me £349 against the 7 which was £499 and the 8 at £800+. The plastic back certainly looks like glass and has the same weight and coolness - now protected with a heavy duty case. Quickly got to grips with it - not too different from my old Huawei - and am very pleased with only half an hour to full charge, the amazing camera, display etc etc. I won't be returning mine any time soon. Merry Christmas🎄🎄🎁❄️
You are 50% right and 50% wrong. The company's flagships were always a few months apart from the A series, so they were never $400 or $450 apart (when the 3A came out for example, the Pixel 3 had a significant price cut. So did the 4, 5, etc. ). You're right though that, right now, it's not worth buying the 7A when the pixel 7 is the same price. It's also true that Google's strategy is strange.
I’d agree with this except that I feel like getting the free Pixel Buds and a free case with the 7a right now on the Google Store, isn’t the worst value?
It's something about the 7a series to me that I love this year it's the corral color. I have the 7a and the pro and the portrat mode is better on the 7a which is crazy
I had a 4a and recently took advantage of Google's trade in offer to get a 6a. Previously the 6a had been listed at $499 but in April of this year it was listed at $299. Google said my trade in amount could be at least $50 so I ordered the 6a which arrived in a few days. I shipped my 4a back to them for analysis and they credited my debit card $144! So, I paid, what, $155 for a phone that was listed just recently for nearly $500. I agree with Mark T. that Google's pricing strategy seems hard to understand. Oh, by the way, my phone overheats as he mentions in this video and Google said they will replace it.
My guess is that they’re trying to find the sweat spot for pricing between the A and standard models so that they can eventually get away from the A models and just stick to the standard and pro models
...but you get no extras like free $99 Pixel Buds as well as a free case (and it's a good one!) with the 7a as opposed to the 7. Honestly, you can just wait a month or two and it'll drop to $399 and the 7 will remain where it is at $499 and you still get a really good phone either way. Depends on how much you want to spend, you really aren't losing out here, the 7a has been a great phone for me in the nearly week I've had it. Better than the Pixel 6 in every way (yes I own that phone). Actually the 7 really isn't that much better than the 7a....too many folks on YT saying just that, and I agree with them. Slower charging isn't a biggie, and having wireless charging is a major plus at this price point no matter how fast or slow it is. If you're like most folks, you're charging overnight anyway and speed isn't an issue (plus the plugged in charging is pretty fast, so you have that to balance it out anyway). All in all, I couldn't disagree with you more Mark, sorry. The 7a is a great phone and a good deal if you take advantage of Google's offers on it. Or wait a bit and nab it much cheaper down the road.
Exactly I dont know why people complaing about the price if it's a great phone just buy it ( Btw I too own a pixel 7a bought it for $390 by exchanging my old phone)
I have the Google Pixel 6a. Other than the noticeable 60Hz screen rate. It's still a pretty rock solid phone. In a year from now, the 7a will likely be in a similar position.
I have the 6a as well and I find the camera very underwhelming, I mean I'd rather have it then no camera at all but the fact that I'm saying that tells you how bad the camera is. I might get pixel 8 when it comes out depending on the price and specs
UK £449 Pixel 7a with Pixel Buds A, the Pixel 7 without Pixel Buds cost £599. To be fair that is big difference specially if you take out price of Pixel Buds
I ended up getting the 7A for £424 after a Google Store discount and I sold the Buds so effectively bringing the price I paid for it even lower. Can't justify paying more for the 7 here in the UK.
I think Google is using this tactic to increase the sales figures of the other Pixel. Perhaps they will achieve higher profits despite the poorer sales figures of another device.
I am so confused. I just got into the Pixel world and purchased my 7a and so far I love it( with a few downs. From other reviews I have seen, most people seem to agree that the 7a is a much better deal since it has certain features of the 7 pro at much cheaper price.
Nothing wrong with your choice whatsoever. Yeah, I've just ordered a 7, however, both phones are so close together that the 7a is a great choice, and as you say it often reviews better. My last phone was a 6a, fantastic little thing.
Can't speak for the pixel 5a or 6a, but now you are getting the same processor and RAM of the 7. Hardware is very similar. I prefer the plastic back. It's lighter and less fragile and unlike past Pixels, now has wireless charging. I'm cheap so I always get the A series and have never been disappointed. Just got the 7a and the only thing I dislike is that it gets hot while playing some games. Looks great, great pictures, plenty fast and has all the added software features of the 7 and 7 Pro.
Mark completely overlooked the size difference between the 7 and the 7a. I am not trying to buy the biggest phone. The pixel 7a is the right size for me, as it easily fits into my pocket and hand.
Me too! But sadly it's reaching the end of its life (one big issue is the charger port is getting increasingly dodgy). Thinking I'll go for the Pixel 7 this time which has wireless charging. But I will miss my aux port and the fingerprint reader on the back (I use the notification swipe up/down feature all the time) 🙁
I mean the size increased marginally over the 6a, so I can't even justify buying for a compact phone because it's essentially the same size as the standard 7.
So I need to sign a new smartphone contract and I have the choice between 6A and 7A with a total price difference of around 107$ for 2 years. I heard people say the 7A battery life is bad right now and needs fixing. But its guaranteed to be similar to the 6A battery life after some time right? Like I'm happy to pay the extra money but not if the battery life is worse. Using a 4A right now and I know I'm gonna miss this small, handy smartphone for sure.
You are basically saying the same thing I've been saying about the 7A. With them raising the price to $499 while the flagship is $599($499 at some places). That absolutely makes having the budget line not worth it. Ironically my very first Pixel was the $349 Pixel 4A. Yeah it had a mid range processor and a plastic build, but that was peak Google balancing price and value. I don't know what Google is thinking here. My guess is those morons complaining about the 60 hertz display and wireless charging is why they decided to add them and raise the starting price. My guess too is now the flagship 8 and 8 pro prices will go up $50-100 in order to make the 7A seem like a better deal. If so it'll be a very poor marketing strategy by Google. Because the biggest advantage in my opinion they had going for them was undercutting Apple and Samsung. Now it seems they are taking away a smart strategy and replacing it with a very bad one that will lose customers.
On the other end I bought the Pixel 6A for $199 from Best Buy with a port-in deal. I compared both phones and they looked almost identical except for the camera design.
The 7/7Pro models are both filled with more features than the 7a and the price reflects that, so ranting about feature lacking on the 7a doesn't make sense. I bought the 7a for a few reasons: It's affordable, the camera doesn't stick out as much on the back, it is physically smaller than the 7/7Pro and I don't need most of the features 7/7Pro would've added. I haven't received mine yet, but I'm sure I'll be more than satisfied with it. Ultimately, everyone has to make their own decision and the expectations coming into a purchase plays a big role in how it will be perceived. If you purchase a budget phone and expect a premium phone, you're doomed to be dissappointed right from the get go.
I'm getting ride of my 6 as my memory always is full and they say pay more googles ripping me off and still trying to make videos for TikTok, then oh it's full again what, so now 6 bucks month extra and now deleting my videos and I'm so pissed of. I hate it.
thank god for google allowing me to cancel my order just purchased and cancelled the 7a to get the 7 same price atm its a decent phone for someone like me that does not really take care of his phones
As someone who works for a wireless company in retail, the only reason for me to recommend the 7a over the 7 is the fact you can get the phone free over 24 months promotions when adding new lines. If not, I tend to just recommend the 7 because a $4 difference every month is not a big deal for most people.
yeah while those promotions last, AND if someone opens a new line, the 7a is amazing at that point cause its free lol.. but aside from that, like you said, pixel 7 all the way.
@@MarksTech Definitely, in my area is very common for people to add new lines. But when they are just upgrading, they tend to just go for the Samsung flagships, iPhone devices or entry level android phones.
Depends on the carrier I guess cause opening new lines with T-Mobile can get you a new iPhone 15, pixel 8 or 8 Pro, Samsung S23, etc. it's whatever you opt for and credit rating matters of course
One thing that never made sense to me was the Pixel 4a 5G not being called the 5a given how close it was to the actual 5, then the existence of a nearly-identical Pixel 5a.
The only way the 7A is worth it is through carrier promotions where you get the phone at a steep discount for a two year contract. If buying the phone retail, it doesn't make sense to pay $499 when the 7 is the same price. Most people buy their phones through their carriers which still charge full retail for the pixel 7.
I got the 7A mainly because of the 8 months free Google Fi Unlimited (for international travel) and year of TH-cam Premium promotion that I wanted and extra 6 months of guaranteed updates (although I am sure Google will support 7 for same time period since it's basically same HW). Those promotional items are worth at least $300 to me, so effectively I am getting phone for $200. It's also slightly smaller which I do like. But at same price, without the bundle, I would probably get the 7 for less bezel and more premium build.
So basically, the point of this click-bait video is that Pixel 7a is not a bad phone at all, it’s just inferior to regular 7 in your opinion. Ok, thanks
PSA: another reason not to get the 7a, is u won’t be able to trade in for pixel 8 (at launch) if u want to. It takes a full year for fair market value. Not saying u should trade in a newish phone but P8 could be tempting.
Trying to decide between 7 and 7a east choice get the 7a because 1. Scrolling display issues gone 2. Other that the USA it’s around $150 cheaper than the 7 3. Camera should not self shatter 4.sea blue 😅
The 7a slots into both the 7 and 8 line and will carry on well after the standard 7 range fades out . Plus the 8 series is apparently going to be more expensive than the 7 series £100-200 more , so the £400 mark will seem quite fitting for the 7a
I'm using a 6a that T mobile gave me for FREE for opening a new line, the same week the 6a came out. I had zero plans for using the phone, but ended up switching from my "flagship" Samsung. As far as price goes, I'm at the point in my life that I just don't care about phones. Even a literally free 6a does everything I need it to. If the 7a is 100 dollars cheaper or heavy discount week two I'd get it because I know it's a phone that does the job
I still have the 4a, love it. rear finger print sensor, headphone jack, camera still nice. I don't like that phones are over 6 inches now. sigh, waiting out the phablet fashion...
Here's why I lean towards the 7A. Less likely to break with the plastic back. And I'm buying one for me and my wife so the total savings would be $200.
I would never really buy that phone for two reasons: 1) its screen bezels are huge, resembling those devices from the early 2000s and we're already in 2023, it's been 23 years, my Poco X3 Pro has thinner frames on its screen and 2) internal memory of only 128Gb, when today there are mid-ranges with 256Gb. I think that would be the reasons for not opting for that Pixel 7a. IMHO!
I was considering the Pixel 7a for my Redmi Note 12 replacement which was very slow. It's on offer now for around £200 with codes (8GB/128GB) but I ended up going for the Moto G84 instead since I had codes for that and ended up only costing me £155 which I think is great for a 12GB/256GB handset. The camera is good enough for me and having 12GB of RAM is very nice too. Also has a 120Hz pOLED display and the 7a has only 90Hz. The Redmi Note 12 I was replacing had a 120Hz display so I really wanted to keep 120Hz so it didn't feel a downgrade. Also going from 6.67inch display to 6.5 inch, the moto G84 already feels small and I think the 7a at 6.1 inches would feel a bit too small for me.
Perhaps this is Google's way of selling more 7s. Perhaps this holiday season is when you'll see 7a at discount. I'm more concerned with only three years of updates... That sucks!
No problem, I get frustrated when I see all of these TH-camrs seeing the pixel 7 for the same price as the 7a... Ok but not since the 7a has been released. Unless you buy it second hand or from a third party on Amazon the pixel 7 is more expensive just about anywhere the average person will buy it. Whether it's worth the extra $50-100 for some people is up to them. For me I'd rather save $50-100 for a phone that is 95% the pixel 7. I have the 7a now and had the 7 a few months ago. Not much difference between them and certainly not $100 difference.
I had a Pixel 7 Pro, got a 7a because it was free from my carrier and sold the Pro, despite it being a downgrade, its honestly not super noticeable and the phone works just fine. Would I pay for it? Maybe not.
You literally said it yourself at the end. It's the same phone, with slower charging and slightly worse camera. Many people will choose that tradeoff for $100 savings.
I think the point is that when this phone goes on sale for 399 hopefully. Then it is going to be a great value device. Right now, at this price, it is not worth it when the 7 is the same price and the 6a is a great price. If you are set on getting for the 7a I would wait till it goes on sale.
I am in need of a new phone like today so here, the price difference is 160. Could anyone tell me at that difference, is it still worth getting the 7. 400 to 560.
I would even wait for the specs and reviews of the pixel 8 and pixel 8 pro to decide what to buy. But I agree that for 100$ difference, getting the 7 is a better option except that it is lighter in terms of weight and is made of plastic as some people might prefer this to glass.
@@drexter09I picked the pixel 8 pro. Apart from not charging that fast compared to the competition and the price, it's pretty good. I bought it when they were giving a pixel watch 2 wifi as a bonus.
When I purchased my pixel 6 it was slightly cheaper than the newly released pixel 6a. Pixel 7a prices should drop once it's settled in . I think the pixel 8 and 8XL will be more expensive than the pixel 7 and 7 Pro
where i`m from, 100 bucks is not one meal skipped. For some unfortunate people it can be 1/3 of their monthly income. So i share your frustration, it`s so confusing how they price it, it makes me go over and over specs trying to understand the differences and how these weird prices are justified. Like....really how is it that 7 costs the same and sometimes cheaper then 7a??
Same thing Marques Brownlee was saying in the 7a review. Get the 7, the prices will make it a no brainer. Still I will buy second hand or refurbished which makes both phones substantially cheaper. Just pay what you are happy to pay.
I wasn't watching it till the end, tbh. But your rant seems to be only about the price, right? But the price will drop significantly in a short period of time. No one can help you, if you buy this phone on the first day. Nobody is doing this... So I'll wait a little bit and get it then, problem solved, no rant required, thank you.
I actually got the deal with the pixel buds pro for free and returned my 6a back and for everything i payed 509. after i will get my money back for my 6a, this deal will get me the 7a and buds pro at arround 350
Here in Sweden the price difference is 145$. Better than 100$ but if Google would offer 50$ extra discount instead of buds that would be a good different as I see it. 195$ price difference might be considerable
I own a Pixel 7a which was an upgrade from a Pixel 4 and am very happy with it. This video shows some handy customisation features , some of which I use: th-cam.com/video/OkrlguJqZMs/w-d-xo.html
Don't buy pixels unless you like bugs, mediocre battery life, mediocre screens on the budget models and overheating. May not apply to all models but my gawd the pixel line is on rough experience for all models but maybe not the 8? It has one thing going for itself, camera and perhaps design. I hate it because I want a good pixel. Maybe in a year or 2 they will create something solid.
So you purchased the 7a just to complain about the price? Wouldn't you have saved money if you already knew you didn't like the pricing strategy? Why buy the phone for a price and then to complain about the price? 😂 Common sense

@ziofascistssuck exactly, the pixel 7A charges 30% in 30 minutes
7a pricing shows that Pixel 8 and especially Pro probably will be a 100 dollar increase in price.
id take the price increase if the tensor g3 is much better than the g2 (faster, efficient and doesnt overheat)

Everyone forgets that phone including Mark in this video. It definitely inhabited a strange place in the Pixel world.
@@RichHutchinson Agreed
The only way the 7A is worth it is through carrier promotions where you get the phone at a steep discount for a two year contract. If buying the phone retail, it doesn't make sense to pay $499 when the 7 is the same price. Most people buy their phones through their carriers which still charge full retail for the pixel 7.
I lost brain cells watching this
Google is going to "solve" this by raising the Base 8 at least $100.
Im in india, and here temperatures really go high in summer, so should i buy ? Im hearing 7a always heat up a lot even in normal apps.
@@AbsoluteUNIT000 I wouldn't say it heats up sll that much, but I got a case on.
So basically, the point of this click-bait video is that Pixel 7a is not a bad phone at all, it’s just inferior to regular 7 in your opinion. Ok, thanks
He kept ranting about the rice if you wanna save time.
My guess is that they are moving towards ending the A series and going to just 2 models each year: the base model and the pro.
PSA: another reason not to get the 7a, is u won’t be able to trade in for pixel 8 (at launch) if u want to. It takes a full year for fair market value. Not saying u should trade in a newish phone but P8 could be tempting.
Oooooo good point!
I have an Oppo and the camera is rubbish! Now about to upgrade so which phone has the best camera which is reasonably priced please?
Trying to decide between 7 and 7a east choice get the 7a because
1. Scrolling display issues gone
2. Other that the USA it’s around $150 cheaper than the 7
3. Camera should not self shatter
4.sea blue 😅
Maybe there will ba a huge price drop after a few months after the pixel 8 series comes out....
How about making calls and over heating?
IMHO!
Sticking with the 6a for now got it through metro by T-Mobile for 49.99 and you own it. Good enough for me
Hello, may I ask. about, this. . . . .When will this new Google Pixel 7 phone be launched, and when will it be offered on discount in a few months?
I am satisfied with the delivery method.. it is true that Google often lowers the price of pixels but unfortunately in my country it is not sold..
The 7a won this year's blind camera contest by mkhb right?
Mark, it looks like you have the 7a in your left hand (at 3:45)
I think Google is trying to price the 7a at a price point to compete with the Samsung a54 5g which is also overpriced
Perhaps this is Google's way of selling more 7s. Perhaps this holiday season is when you'll see 7a at discount. I'm more concerned with only three years of updates... That sucks!
It's 5 years of security updates though, that's the most important
Is rear facing video recording really that bad for the 7a? Debating whether to buy it as there's no other monthly deal at that price range in the UK
Pixel 7a is great for videos, just not as good as the vanilla 7
Ultra wide quality is similar on both
I just checked you're right The Pixel 7 is $499 at Best buy
Yeah but you have to activate it at that price with a carrier. It's regular price unlocked. The 7a is $449 with activation so still cheaper.
@@jordanweingarten6210 you're right I forgot about that they won't let you take it home without activating there
No problem, I get frustrated when I see all of these TH-camrs seeing the pixel 7 for the same price as the 7a...
What about the back camera glass cracking??
Can you post the link to your ebay page that way i can buy phones from you when you sell them after reviewing them?
Nahhh I bough the 7a and its an amazing phone for it's price.
So you mean that when discounted, it's worth buying compared to the Samsung A54?
I think the point is that when this phone goes on sale for 399 hopefully. Then it is going to be a great value device. Right now, at this price, it is not worth it when the 7 is the same price and the 6a is a great price. If you are set on getting for the 7a I would wait till it goes on sale.
I am in need of a new phone like today so here, the price difference is 160. Could anyone tell me at that difference, is it still worth getting the 7. 400 to 560.
Im thinking to buy but heard about heating and connectivity issues. Help
Wait - you want google to charge more for the 7? I got the 7a and had a free case and pixel buds. Is the phone any good or not?
I would even wait for the specs and reviews of the pixel 8 and pixel 8 pro to decide what to buy. But I agree that for 100$ difference, getting the 7 is a better option except that it is lighter in terms of weight and is made of plastic as some people might prefer this to glass.
Pixel8 got released. What did you get?
@@drexter09I picked the pixel 8 pro. Apart from not charging that fast compared to the competition and the price, it's pretty good. I bought it when they were giving a pixel watch 2 wifi as a bonus.
When I purchased my pixel 6 it was slightly cheaper than the newly released pixel 6a. Pixel 7a prices should drop once it's settled in . I think the pixel 8 and 8XL will be more expensive than the pixel 7 and 7 Pro
I’m in deep confusion and needs your help because you tried both phone s23 and Xiaomi 13. If you were me what you will pick and why?
S23 is $750 and Xiaomi 13 is $880 in my country.
I got the 7a in a trade for my iphone 12. Had a cracked screen but its still a great phone
It's makes sense , prices are less or just more to encourage people to upgrade and spend more or change there phone
'100$ - difference between eating tonight and not eating tonight'. Damn, you have quite expensive meals in US :D
Just bought this for £305 direct from Google
got the 7a for 350 EUR. Awesome phone. Zero issues. Great battery life. This is what i call bang for buck
where i`m from, 100 bucks is not one meal skipped.
What would be the best buy now? The pixel 6a, 6, 7a or 7?
Pixel 7a is going to be a flop.. Google's marketing strategy is worst..
The pricing is now same because it has the same processor in both the phones…. So yes no major difference in A series and flagship now
Custom Soc Mark cost money to manufacture look we've already lost Lg do you really want to lose another phone maker
You missed out the 6/6a???
I got this phone to try it out. I have no issues for what I need it which is basic everyday use.
The 7a has a better camera. Go watch all the comparison videos. The 7a wins pretty much every blind test.
I don't get it, on googles website the battery and camera is better on 7a than 7.
7 has bigger sensor, for battery It’s around the same
Here in Sweden the price difference is 145$. Better than 100$ but if Google would offer 50$ extra discount instead of buds that would be a good different as I see it. 195$ price difference might be considerable
This phone was a pointless waste of time to begin with. Why did anyone buy this crap.
I got the Google pixel 7a and love it
I returned my 6a that thing was bad. So you're complaining about the price?
s21 fe should have set the business standard on how not to price phones, yet here we go again.
7A still being 128GB is a deal breaker
I own a Pixel 7a which was an upgrade from a Pixel 4 and am very happy with it.
This video shows some handy customisation features , some of which I use:
th-cam.com/video/OkrlguJqZMs/w-d-xo.html
I agree totally. I did not see the sense of this price for Pixel 7A. They do some non-sense movement in their stategy #google
I gave my P6 to my daughter and bought a P7 for 500 i was looking at the P7a but got in store and said forget that i didn't like the bezels on it
Don't buy pixels unless you like bugs, mediocre battery life, mediocre screens on the budget models and overheating. May not apply to all models but my gawd the pixel line is on rough experience for all models but maybe not the 8? It has one thing going for itself, camera and perhaps design.
I hate it because I want a good pixel. Maybe in a year or 2 they will create something solid.
You wasted a lot of time I came here to find out about the 7A not about the prices of old phones
I still use my pixel 7a
Still Worth it?
Still? That phone is from 2023 😅
I'm a 3a user 😂🎉
I just bought the Pixel 7 for 594€, including 2 years of SMS, Calls in EU-Countries + 13GB data each month
I was not satisfied with my samsung a 24 untill i put my hand on pixel 7a, overheating in 10 minutes.
So you purchased the 7a just to complain about the price? Wouldn't you have saved money if you already knew you didn't like the pricing strategy? Why buy the phone for a price and then to complain about the price? 😂 Common sense
Cause I review phones.
