Bruh this game is a classic! One of the better movie tie in games in the early 2000s plus it’s basically Battle for bikini bottom with driving. But do remember how hard the back half of the game was as a kid but managed to beat it took like a month but it happened!

I absolutely loved the console version. I remember playing it on the ps3, mightve been the ps2 version. Seeing it played again is making me feel happy.
Never remembered how difficult this game was. Kinda stokes the ego a bit but I did spend like a thousand hours playing it as a kid so I had to get good at it eventually.
I also beat it as a kid, but yeah it took me quite a lot of tries for the final area and the Neptune boss fight, but I actually found them challenging in a fun way. I appreciate them not pulling any punches despite it being a silly Spongebob game.

I knew this existed but thought it was in the console version, which was the only one I had, as well I recognized a bunch of moments from the pc version in this video but I don't know how because I didn't own the pc version (at least I don't think?) nor did any of my friends as well I wasn't into TH-cam at the time nor do I think gaming videos were even a thing at that point... 🤔
The GBA version is pretty good, had it as a kid. It's also pretty hard, I always had issues with the skull level because it was timed and the level with the lights that dry you up, because it was also timed. Took me a bunch of years probably to beat it.

I thought this one came before Battle for Bikini Bottom, my dad bought me this one on gamecube back in the day. Those were good times. This one felt like a fever dream but i liked it.
When I was a kid I actually played the first point and click SpongeBob game "Employee of the Month" I genuinely love the game although comparing it to the movie game it definitely looks a lot weirder. That one and Truth or Square were my only two SpongeBob games and I have lots of fond memories of both.

I once tried a run where i didn’t upgrade either health bars or moves. It was honestly not too bad until the last arena fights (with the enemies from planktopolis). There’s also a section at the end of planktopolis where three mervs spawn, and this is basically impossible. Without the upgrade karate spin, you can’t deflect their missiles, and you’ll be hit by their missiles because your guitar attack won’t reach them without the lock on upgrade.

Well, almost all the mechanics of the movie game comes straight from battle of bikini bottom. So I had an easier time because BOBB taught me all the mechanics used in this game. Maybe this game expected you to have played that game first

When I was a kid, I found a double pack of this and BFBB at Gamestop. I liked both just fine, but this one was weirdly my favorite of the two. I think I even got 100% of the extras at some point, but no way I got all the Goofy Goober Tokens. I couldn't get through the Manly Time Trial stages to save my life. Heck, maybe I should try to find this game for myself again sometime. See how it holds up almost two decades later.
I played the game on my GameCube NONSTOP along with Battle for Bikini Bottom when I had my tonsils removed as a kid. I always had a connection with it, even if the blockage of progressing really bugged me because I just wanted to continue, and the time and ring challenges? Don't even get me started. The platforming levels though, I adored. Upgrading an ability was so rewarding. I unfortunately never finished this game, I only made it to Shell City, Dead Ahead and got stuck, and I don't even think I own it anymore, but both of those SpongeBob games were my happiness when I was in severe pain. The Gameboy version I still have paired with SpongeBob SuperSponge, but ugh I hate the password system. And for that I've never beaten that version, farthest I might have gotten was the third world if I was feeling it.
I cant believe you didn't like the driving segments, or getting the tokens. Those were some of my favorite things to do in this game. They add so much replay value. Also, im surprised someone got stuck on the button thing in the level with all the big TVs. I thought it was always obvious. i had the pc version of this game as a kid it was a lot of fun for me i remember the 2 things that gave me the most trouble were the first level as i didn't know you could combine items and finding the spine for dr louie (it did not look visible)
The Xbox version has most of the same levels and models, but the controls were much more fluent. It's as if the PlayStation version was ported from the Xbox with little fine tuning. Either that or it was improved on Xbox. (Dunno the release timing) The only things I really hated about the game were the driving stages, and the design of the void stages that made you feel like you're about to vomit.

I genuinely love the game although comparing it to the movie game it definitely looks a lot weirder.
That one and Truth or Square were my only two SpongeBob games and I have lots of fond memories of both.

I once tried a run where i didn’t upgrade either health bars or moves. It was honestly not too bad until the last arena fights (with the enemies from planktopolis). There’s also a section at the end of planktopolis where three mervs spawn, and this is basically impossible. Without the upgrade karate spin, you can’t deflect their missiles, and you’ll be hit by their missiles because your guitar attack won’t reach them without the lock on upgrade.

One thing I dislike about the ps2 version was the lack of translations. It was completely in english, which made no sense since all other spongebob games anf the movie were available in german. So I didn't understand a single word when I played this is as an 8 year old lol

Well, almost all the mechanics of the movie game comes straight from battle of bikini bottom. So I had an easier time because BOBB taught me all the mechanics used in this game. Maybe this game expected you to have played that game first

When I was a kid, I found a double pack of this and BFBB at Gamestop. I liked both just fine, but this one was weirdly my favorite of the two. I think I even got 100% of the extras at some point, but no way I got all the Goofy Goober Tokens. I couldn't get through the Manly Time Trial stages to save my life.
Heck, maybe I should try to find this game for myself again sometime. See how it holds up almost two decades later.
I played the game on my GameCube NONSTOP along with Battle for Bikini Bottom when I had my tonsils removed as a kid. I always had a connection with it, even if the blockage of progressing really bugged me because I just wanted to continue, and the time and ring challenges? Don't even get me started. The platforming levels though, I adored. Upgrading an ability was so rewarding. I unfortunately never finished this game, I only made it to Shell City, Dead Ahead and got stuck, and I don't even think I own it anymore, but both of those SpongeBob games were my happiness when I was in severe pain.
The Gameboy version I still have paired with SpongeBob SuperSponge, but ugh I hate the password system. And for that I've never beaten that version, farthest I might have gotten was the third world if I was feeling it.
I cant believe you didn't like the driving segments, or getting the tokens. Those were some of my favorite things to do in this game. They add so much replay value.
Also, im surprised someone got stuck on the button thing in the level with all the big TVs. I thought it was always obvious. Lol
I disagree _heavily_ with some of your points, but like Creature From the Krusty Krab, I absolutely adore this game. Its my second favorite SpongeBob game, and was the first SpongeBob game I ever played.
I loved the PC version as a kid, and still enjoy it to this day! The music is really good!

I had the same issue with the text when i played the PC game a few months ago, to fix it you need to change the display scale to a lower % in your pc's settings

i had the pc version of this game as a kid
it was a lot of fun for me
i remember the 2 things that gave me the most trouble were the first level as i didn't know you could combine items
and finding the spine for dr louie (it did not look visible)
The Xbox version has most of the same levels and models, but the controls were much more fluent.
It's as if the PlayStation version was ported from the Xbox with little fine tuning. Either that or it was improved on Xbox. (Dunno the release timing)
The only things I really hated about the game were the driving stages, and the design of the void stages that made you feel like you're about to vomit.
Employee of the month was by far the weirdest of all the spongebob games in this era. Movie and felt like it could of just been a sequel to BFB.
My sister and I a few years ago decided that as adults we were gonna finally beat the PS2 SpongeBob Movie Game we played all the time as kids. I have never felt so viscerally angry while trying to beat a game in my whole life
As a kid I had The Movie game, but not any other spongebob game for consoles. The amount of time I spent 100%ing it multiple times alone and with my brother and father is probably firmly in the triple digits.
To be fair bowlling was part of SpongeBobs moveset in the peevious game. Except the bowling ball was a bubble and not an actual ball.

I beat the main story for this game as a kid but I know I didn't get all the extra stuff.
I loved the platformer so much but i am not sure if i beat it back then. When I was like 7 years old this game felt endless
for years i would replay this game and bfbb once a year, only got to the surfing stage before hasselhoff once at like 11 years old. i still cant beat it. its absurd how difficult it is!!
on the bright side, i never had to see that awful stock art. good god does it get bad. maybe the difficulty was them trying to cover up the ending

I grew up with the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube version of the movie game it's one of my favorite games ever invented and a movie video game that is actually pretty good unlike other movie game titles
