Sadly most dealerships will only get 4 or 5 for all of the 2023 model year, with one maybe being the Circuit Edition. Almost no dealerships with get the super high end trim given how rare those are. My point is, these will absolutely sell the instant they arrive, and most likely well above MSRP.

Saw the episode today- cross country road trip. You were talking about a grinding first gear when you went to shift at stop or near stop. Before you chip a gear or start transmission rebuild, try Amsoil gear lube. My old Honda Civic was having shifting issues & sometimes a simple transmission fluid change can do wonders. Worked for me & maybe you too.
I took my GR Yaris to my local track in South Wales on a cold, wet February day earlier this year. Its a tight bumpy circuit, as used frequently by Mr Chris Harris, and the car was sublime. It completely embarrassed everything over car there that day, even racecars. The 30/70 was definitely my preference, even in the greasy conditions because the car wanted to rotate soon on corner exit but 50/50 was impressively effective. Great cars!
The main problem with this car atleast for us NZers is that it’s expected to launch between 90-100k NZD. For that money, you can get 2017+ M3, Giulia quadrifoglio, Alfa 4C, focus RS, 1990s Honda NSX. For me personally, is special but not as special as these cars. I’d just buy an old NSX, or Alfa 4C which have such a different driving experience that you can’t get anywhere else and those cars will most likely retain higher resale value if taken care of than this.
Great car, but I can't help but feel like this car is dead on arrival.. With dealer markups nowadays, this thing is definitely going the way of the Focus RS, and it really is a shame
We hate dealer markups too! But we hope it doesn’t go away like the Focus RS. Ford has completely abandoned small cars in North America, but we don’t envision Toyota doing the same. We’re just happy this made it to production!
According to my local dealer, Toyota has imposed penalties on any dealer trying to charge "market adjustments." The only thing the dealership owner has done is say he's getting the first one allocated and it's sticker pricing for every other one they get in.
You know, I've watched Savage Geese's review, Throttle House's review, and now this one, you guys are the only one's who favored the 30/70 split. Everyone else liked the 50/50. Is that just down to driving styles?
It’s lots of fun to switch between different torque modes and instantly feel a significant difference. It depends on driving styles, yes, and also what you want to get out of a lap time. The guys found 30:70 playful, but a 50:50 would probably deliver a quicker lap.
I did see another review saying they preferred the 30/70 split as well. It seems to be more about how the driver likes to drive than anything else. The best tool is the one that *you* get the best result with 😉
@Shaboygan Bakalal what does that have to do with anything? Yeah, if you rebuild the entire driveline you can make whatever you want. That has nothing to do with what this car can do with a simple software mod. It's FWD with a clutch to connect the rear wheels. It will take an entire rebuild, not a "mod", to make it rear biased.
Nice! Looks like a blast! Been looking forward to this one. Love the channel and the podcast. Thoughts on the clutch and the pedal placement? The regular Corolla has such a light and lifeless clutch and the pedals are pretty far apart. Hoping those are improved on this one.
True, but Ford just announced a new gen manual na v8 Mustang with a Tremec transmission option and improved steering, interior etc. They haven't given up on the enthusiast either
I think Toyota's idea is that most people will buy the Core and spec it up, The Circuit Edition is for the people who want a better track car or a collectible car, and The Morizo Edition is for the best track performance but mostly a collectible item, not really something for the masses 🤔 And at that price? If you find a Core at close to MSRP it's straight up the best option for a Hot Hatch (At least until the (FL5) Type R comes then we'll see but no matter what this will always be one of the greatest Hot Hatches of our era ❤️🔥)

You're drastically misinformed if you think 40K USD is what most people are gonna pay. Spent the last 8 months looking at primarily a GR86 and trust me...there are far too few Toyota Dealers who will sell you ANYTHING at MSRP especially a limited production model. The dealers that say they don't mark up add 4k accessory packages. I'm not paying 45k for a Corolla with base seats when a Camaro on Alpha Platform is in that ballpark. I got my EN 6 SPD for MSRP....
@@MK3504 In Michigan the dealerships in Grand Rapids/Holland are MSRP only. There may be small things like stupid protection packages tacked on for $500 but you're not paying over that. We saw them all over and the Nurburgring when we were there over summer. The Yaris is a lot more squat and more reminiscent of an oversized Fiat 500. I like the size of the Corolla better as it is a lot more usable.
That's the trade off of you guys getting the Yaris I guess. After seeing some in Germany recently, I like the size of the Corolla better but the Yaris still looked cool!

Which do you Gentlemen Prefer, the gr Corolla or the Mk8 manual Volkswagen Golf R and why. I'm in the market for an all-wheel drive manual hot hatch so basically only two choices.
Until Toyota either adopts a normal ordering process (i.e. here are my specs, put in a build order, give me an ETA for delivery) or starts putting cars on lots, these and GR86's might as well not exist.
"the one everybody wants"? Really? That's a NO from me. The entirety of the corolla GR's appeal to me is it has 4 doors and 4 (or 5) seats. That's what makes it exciting. Once it has only 2 seats.... Why aren't you buying something rear wheel drive without back doors?
Nice job Toyota. Not a huge fan of the way it looks? Just on looks, think I would go with a Civic R? This is a nice little car though. I do like the insane idea of a $50,000 Corolla!
Great Drive review as usual Boys!!!! Sounds EXACTLY like the Yaris GR I've had in my car market in Australia for a few years now. Though its AWD, its set-up for dogged understeer, and prevalent on the road as well. Yeah it's "drift" but the chassis doesn't like it! Essentially a FWD car with rear powered wheels, very much like Audi's Quattro setup.
It was taken directly from the Toyota information we were given. We discussed it because it seemed so high. Toyota has since revised the number down to the mid-twenties, which makes more sense. Thanks for watching!
I suspect with what I imagine the options will cost the Core with the LSD option and then putting in aftermarket seats is going to be more expensive than just buying the Circuit in the first place. I also don't know that it needs a tune but I know everyone under the sun is probably going to tune them anyway. I just wonder how high strung this engine is out of the box and how well it will take to a tune over time.

Since the GR is based on the Yaris platform, wouldn't that make the Circuit Edition a 50k Yaris with a Corolla badge? Also, any idea why they have four doors on the Circuit Edition if he doesn't even have back seats? Shouldn't the hatchback be enough to get access to the rear?

I wonder if you'll be able to just upload a Morizo tune to the lesser models to get that extra pound of boost and slightly more torque
Glad I purchased my Elantra N, the seats are better, engine stock is livelier, handling Is excellent. This looks good but for 50k I'm going Camaro Track pack no question.
$40k USD gets a fully loaded core and only 200 people are going to be able to buy a $50k Morizo. The $50k comments are drastically misinformed.
I have it in writing from two dealerships for MSRP on a GRC and I was a few hours late on placing a deposit for a premium Neptune manual GR86 at MSRP. You just need to know where to look.
I agree with the video comment. 50K is to much for the top of the line Morisso. The two entry level versions would be sufficient.
i like that its comparable to the Yaris GR if not better. although I still don't think it will sell very well. usually dudes with money dont get hot hatches but its a cool car.
Nice. This is perfect for a one car household
I'm pretty interested to hear how it compares to a Focus RS
We have just the comparison you need coming soon!
$50k Corolla with an old Mazda 3 rear end styling
GR Yaris seems more exciting to drive in comparison
The Mazda 3 doesn’t have a wide body at all
@@yvonjasser rear the rear the hatch
@@philipc239 who care about the hatch door, it is a wide body awd lsd turbo Toyota for god sake. What is next, you don’t like the cup holder?
With an aftermarket exhaust it can easily sound like flat-6 (maybe inline-6) ..it already kind of does.
I can’t wait to see how this stacks up against the Focus RS!
The big story is, even discontinued, the lancer Evo's are the best track cars, feeling RWD with awd traction, so much miss me Evo x gsr...
Only the Morizo edition has unique seats. The seats in the Core and Circuit are the exact same, minus the upholstery.
This is the most exciting car on the market, IMO.
Do you mean the most exciting car in it's class, or most exciting car period?
I wish Toyota brought the GR Yaris as well. I would love to hear your opinions on the Yaris. I guess that would have reflected badly on the Corolla.
Corolla has more power, but is heavier, because 4 door instead of 2. That's the only real difference I'm aware of.
We saw them all over and the Nurburgring when we were there over summer. The Yaris is a lot more squat and more reminiscent of an oversized Fiat 500. I like the size of the Corolla better as it is a lot more usable.
Man I'm so sad that we won't be getting these in the UK 🙁
That's the trade off of you guys getting the Yaris I guess. After seeing some in Germany recently, I like the size of the Corolla better but the Yaris still looked cool!
@@phattyhales personally I love the Yaris in theory but as a daily proposition the Corolla is much more appealing! I really think it would have sold well here... We love a hot hatch!
Which do you Gentlemen Prefer, the gr Corolla or the Mk8 manual Volkswagen Golf R and why.
I'm in the market for an all-wheel drive manual hot hatch so basically only two choices.
We’re working to put a video together with these. We’ve driven both individually, but are excited to have them back to back.
The 86 or the Corolla? Which is a better all-around purchase?
Crazy I got my circuit for msrp
When does the car get released in the states??
Until Toyota either adopts a normal ordering process (i.e. here are my specs, put in a build order, give me an ETA for delivery) or starts putting cars on lots, these and GR86's might as well not exist.
I think, the real RWD feeling is still the famous Evo X !
These dudes remind me of the dudes from Clerks for some reason
"the one everybody wants"? Really? That's a NO from me. The entirety of the corolla GR's appeal to me is it has 4 doors and 4 (or 5) seats. That's what makes it exciting. Once it has only 2 seats.... Why aren't you buying something rear wheel drive without back doors?
Nice job Toyota. Not a huge fan of the way it looks? Just on looks, think I would go with a Civic R? This is a nice little car though. I do like the insane idea of a $50,000 Corolla!
Man all the videos are on a track. Would of been nice if Toyota had a dirt track event too. I mean, is supposed to be a rally car ..
I’m grateful Toyota gave us this but, if they can build this then why couldn’t they build their own sports cars?🤔
what happened to the armrest?
Great Drive review as usual Boys!!!!
Sounds EXACTLY like the Yaris GR I've had in my car market in Australia for a few years now. Though its AWD, its set-up for dogged understeer, and prevalent on the road as well. Yeah it's "drift" but the chassis doesn't like it! Essentially a FWD car with rear powered wheels, very much like Audi's Quattro setup.
I get the bad feeling that this is going to be the same price as a 230i. Or a mustang gt.
Is that boost number accurate!?
It was taken directly from the Toyota information we were given. We discussed it because it seemed so high. Toyota has since revised the number down to the mid-twenties, which makes more sense. Thanks for watching!
Take away? The Core with a tune and an upgraded drivers seat and tires.
A tune? 😂😂 it’s already pushing 25psi.
@@TML34 😅🏁🍾 Well said gentlemen. I personally could never own that car. I'm a wagon fan. Or an old beater Boxster would be nice.
Is it more fun than a golf r etc
It’s everything I wish the Golf R was. The R is good but it was never all that fun out of the box.
Nice!
I know they're very different, but do you think the GR Corolla or the GR86 is the more enjoyable, fun car to drive?
If you can’t get oversteer, automatic win for the 86.
Sweet
Lamspeed racing have a turbo kit that makes these do 10.5s 1/4mile @131mph 😁 so exciting
Here in Canada, for a whopping $50k (after tax) you get the base core and still have to dig deep for the LSD. Feels like a waste of money.
With the current exchange rate that's on about on par for what the Core cost here, $38k
@@phattyhales If GR was built within Canada, it'd be much more affordable. It's about time Canada has it own car company, cause world market sucks. Toyota acts like if's not making huge profit from our undervalued Canadian dollars and rewards with overinflated prices.
@@psewgobind I think you misread what I was getting at. $38k USD is the same money as $50k CAD with today's exchange rate.
@@phattyhales Nope, didn't misread. Fact is, US prices (or conversion) doesn't reflect expected value here in Canada. GR Corolla is too expensive.
i wish we got the yaris :((
I love the car but after their GR86 fiasco I’ll wait a year to see how the engine holds up, and more importantly how Toyota supports it.
Agreed. I'm betting, it will surprise us with reliability? Hoping?
@@keithjackson4985 I'm hoping but we (enthusiasts) rushed into the 2022 BRZ/86 only to have them kick us square in the nards.
@@aroundomaha I'm sorry that happened man.
The engine has been out a while in the GR Yaris in the rest of the world. I haven’t heard any issues about reliability yet.
@@phattyhales That is a great point. I'll still wait a year to see if they short sheet enthusiast support (autocross/track). Love my BRZ but I could use a four door.
Did they say 40psi of boost? No guys.
The error was acknowledged in the video description.
@@phattyhales ok, how they could even momentarily believe it though is crazy, not much forced induction knowledge.
@@akent46 Even with plenty of knowledge in a subject, once in a while an authoritative source tells you something and you just don't even think about it. I'm sure that's what happened here.
@@xtnuser5338 it’s actually the only reason it was brought up. Boost numbers isn’t something we’d normally talk about but these figures stood out on the early spec sheet they sent us that it got brought up. In this case, we were stating an incorrect fact that came directly from Toyota.
@@phattyhales that's crazy, big typo from the Gazoo team! 👍🏼
GR Corolla replaces GR86 in the Everyday fleet ? 🧐😉
Wow seems like Toyota nailed it with the Corolla
This vs. Gr86?
Rwd vs awd. It'd apple's to oranges. I prefer rwd.
Its not 40psi boost
its about 25psi
Did you just say 40 psi? It's 25 psi guys.
The error was addressed in the video description.
Looks like Mazda 2 from 10 years ago
even at $50K they're unobtanium. so what's the point?
40 lbs of boost geeeeeeeebussssss
Makes the STI look old
Yet it can't beat the STI dinosaur engine in a drag race haha
That engine sound is divine... and it's a Corolla. Cognitive dissonance in a huge way. 😁
Dang this audio is pretty quiet
Good luck getting one. If you somehow do, you’ll probably pay way over the actual worth of the car.
Corolla used to be the cheapest entry level economy sh-tbox no frills toyota model, my mom bought one brand new in 85 and it had like 60 hp and it wasn't small it was a station wagon. I don't understand why they'd transfer that name to a car like this.
I am too old to pay 50k for a Corolla. It's a cool car and all but it's a Corolla.
40 PSI?!
At no point did they make any comparisons to any other high performance cars in the segment, whether new or discontinued. It definitely did not leave an impression on them like the type R did
We have a comparison piece coming in a couple weeks. Therefore we intended this as just a discussion of driving impressions on this car. Thanks for watching!
@@EverydayDriver that's fair... I still figured one of you might have at least mentioned this car in comparison to any other car, whether it reminded you of it or whether for eg. it felt more urgent / less urgent then the golf R. Maybe you went out of your ways to specifically not mention any other car in comparison to this because you'll be having a comparison video in the next few weeks. However I personally would have liked to have heard at least a sentence or two at the end of the video discussing if either of you were more impressed than you expected or less impressed than you expected, or anything. I just felt like you guys were just having a good old track day in the car as opposed to actually reviewing it (which is why I watch your channel because you're so good at getting into the real depth of what makes a car good)
Pressure isn’t the same as flow/turbo RPM.
Who the hell told you guys it’s pushing 40 pounds…it’s 25.2.
Bride makes excellent seats for far less than some 😆
Marketing, marketing will not justify dealer markup and overall selling price, don't you think?
40 pounds of boost!?!?!?!?!?!?
Correction noted in description. Thanks for watching.
@@EverydayDriver oh I didn't realize it wasn't right hahaha
@@EverydayDriver 25 is still crazy high, that's diesel level high
This or civic type r 😂 of course civic
These Gen-Xers know what they are talking about! They reall know how to drive.
RIP Ken Block ☝️
I wish Toyota replaced that awfully cheap-looking, scratch and dirt attracting "black piano" trim with ANYTHING else. Even an imitation carbon fibre trim would do wonders to elevate this lagging interior versus the rest of the car.
