Definitely my favorite generation. The best vibe, 16 badges, timed events. Just perfect. Played Silver, Crystal, and Soul Silver this year, time well spent.
'You can beat ALL the other gyms!' 'Which gyms?' "All of them!" 'So, you can go back to the first game? I can catch another Mewtwo?' "I dunno man, I dunno. I'm working on it!' I'll never forget the look on my brothers face when he came into the living room with his Gameboy in hand to show me personally. The only other time I have seen him look happier was graduating boot camp, getting married, and having a daughter.
I was in 6th grade when silver and gold came out and finding out i could go back to Kanto was incredible. I never played any pokemon games after that though. I do know groudon kyogre arceus deoxys rayquaza lol
The remake on the DS gives you elite 4 at higher levels after defeating them first time round. For me that made the end game even more enjoyable as it added on a couple more hours to the experience. As a kid playing the original Gold version was just as fun as playing gta 5 or breath of the wild for the first time.
While I have a lot of nostalgia for the OG Gold and Silver, I don't think they're all that great compared to the first 5 gens of Pokemon games. Heart Gold and Soul Silver are however my favorite games in the entire series. I think they capture what made G/S so great and expand on them well while also bringing in all the quality of life stuff that GameFreak had developed until that point.
I dont think theyre the BEST but theyre great and dont deserve the stupid unfair hate that newgenners bash the older games with the same way genwunners used to do the newer games with nowadays.. At least Heartgold/Soulsilver are still seen as one of the best games in the fandom still but shame gen 2 fell off.
Pokemon Silver was my first Pokemon game, and I fell in love immediately. I did end up playing Red and Yellow not long after, and it felt like there was more emphasis on type strengths and weaknesses while in felt like I could bulldoze through most content with just my Feraligatr, but other than that, Silver takes the cake for me for every reason you mentioned in more. I was completely hooked on this game to the point that I'd buy AA batteries in bulk every weekend and had a calendar on my wall so that I wouldn't forget to catch Lapras in Union Cave on Friday evenings or to say hi to the old man in the tunnel underneath Goldenrod City to buy cheap nuggets from him to flip for some quick cash. I caught my very first shiny (apart from raging Garados) on route 39. I didn't even know what a shiny was at the time, but I knew my Raticate was special. I remember walking back and forth in the area between Goldenrod and the daycare while keeping an eye on the locations of the legendary dogs until the were hiding in the grass near me for a chance to catch one, then one-day, while doing that, my Feraligatr and ditto laid an egg that hatched a female totodile! I want to say I've found every secret that game has to offer, but one day, I walked into the pokecenter in Ecruteak city when I swear I didn't hallucinate Nurse Joy stopping me at the door, telling me that one of my pokemon may have contracted a rare disease. I was kinda just smashing A while mentally on autopilot, just trying heal up my team, so I only caught a bit of what she said, so I quickly restarted my game in hopes that I could go back in time a bit, but I was never successful at getting her to say it again.
This is the game I will return to every couple of years. Just an amazing game
100% agree. I grew up playing Pokemon Gold and it is still my favorite game of all time. None of the other Pokemon games come close.
Definitely my favorite generation. The best vibe, 16 badges, timed events. Just perfect. Played Silver, Crystal, and Soul Silver this year, time well spent.
Definitely agree. I played them through dozens of times. I had a level 86 tyflosion it crushed everyone even high level water types haha

gold silver were the best, you aint missing out. you'd enjoy the remakes on the Nintendo ds but that's about it.

Good point about the DS versions. I agree with the last sentence completely!
This is the correct answer!

I remember Pokémon red and blue played those as a kid I loved Pokémon yellow then I grew up
Never grow up!
For nostalgia it's good but the remakes are so much better
The remakes are better in some ways. But the original did something the remakes didn’t , it captured my imagination
@Pards then they are truly the best
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are the best.

They were pretty good. I don’t like the design of the new Pokémon past the originals.
Aint better than red and blue
