Save The Pockets! - Hybrid birthing method with no ridge and no popped pocket seams

- In this skill builder tutorial I will demonstrate the increasingly popular hybrid birthing method where the bag is turned/birthed through the lining, and the lining is then closed through the interior zipper pocket. The advantages of this method are that it is easier to birth the bag through a larger opening, the exterior is less compressed during birthing resulting in less creasing, the lining can be closed from the inside so there is no ridge in the bottom of your bag, and there is very little risk of popping a stitch in your lining pocket or breaking your zipper as only a small section of the lining is pulled through the pocket opening.

OMG OMG OMG Every bag from now on will have a zipper pocket!!!
You give the best tips. I for sure will be using this one. Every bag I make has a zipper pocket
WOW! That’s amazing! I’m so glad you shared this method. Makes the bottom of the purse lining look so much more professional. Once again, you have the BEST tips! 👏👏👏
Thanks so much Michelle!
Thanks
Thanks so much! Such an easy technique. I love your videos and great explanations.
Thanks so much!
Thank you. You’re an excellent teacher>. What is the name of your bag pattern please?
Thank you! This is my own pattern, available as a free tutorial here: Sew a Crossbody Bag - FREE Full step-by-step beginner tutorial with measurements, no pattern needed
th-cam.com/video/VGIOUf0k-PA/w-d-xo.html, but I was experimenting with pockets when I made this one which I did not do in this original tutorial - you could birth through the exterior pocket or add a pocket using this video: Interior Zipper Pocket Step-by-Step Tutorial - add pockets to any bag pattern!

Great way to close the birth holes
Thank you for sharing! It can be so discouraging when you have worked on a bag with it coming together without issue just to end it with popped seams and/or interfacing bunching or folding.
Well! That is amazing. Never seen it but it makes such sense. Again, you are such a great teacher. Thank you!
Thank you! I’m so glad to be able to bring something new to you!
