I've always seen the aliens as the good guys. The humans run around capturing, exploiting and expirementing on the aliens, who by the way, are only on Mars because their homeworld was destroyed.
Dr. Shoggoth that was never particularly stated in Lego Battles, and interestingly enough, in the Mars mission crystal conflict game on Lego.com the human originally offered a white truce flag before being fired upon, so when it come to the Mars Mission, the aliens shot first

Is it just me or does it seem that lego was REALLY cheep with the alien figures. I mean, the small aliens (mini fig sized) only have two pieces and one point of articulation at the hips, the arms and head don't even move! As well as the commander alien (slightly larger than minifig) uses the same parts for arms and legs, I'm all for cutting down costs but all they did was put a hole through it and it doesn't even look good. Also they put a barely visible glow in the dark spot in the figure and called it good

I believe the center crystal holder is used for energy. It was shown in the Lego battles video game that they threw crystals in a bin for power.
no...no...no and no. the atros new that the 👽 aliens aka (Indrunestiles) ate the crystals for power much like the rock monsters in PM. so thd astros simply jammed a tube connected to a vacuum and sucked the crystal out of them.... yeah i know pretty sick and hardcore but thats 2007-2009 for ya. 8 year fan of Mars Mission here

Quite amazing how much LEGO has evolved in just the past half-dozen years or so. Not that this set is terrible, but it definitely looks and feels like it's from another era, a more simplistic and crude one, design-wise.
That said, I really love that alien ship, with the wings angled downwards it gives me some serious Klingon spaceship vibes (which I would like to think was an inspiration for the design, i.e. intentional).
this gives me so much nostalgia, Mars mission used to be not just my favourite lego theme, but my favourite toy, back in the day. I'm 14 now, so I was in my prime lego time playing with these sets. I remember going to my friends house and combining our sets to create a huge base!

Had one, and assembled it as a kid (I was in grade school back then). Very exciting and cool to play with, and I remember the commercials. Unfortunately, the feature where you can take it off broke after awhile, and it would be super hard to repair with the treads in the way, so eventually I used the pieces for other things, like the treads for a tank I made. Wonderful set, thanks for sharing.
When I first got started with Lego, this was my favorite line of sets. Keep up the good reviews, Jang, and I hope to see more of Mars Mission in the future!!!

Sam Jagt or they were originally from Mars, and the crystals are their decomposed bodies, so the humans used their dead corpses as crystals. I mean, at least then the aliens are dead. That's humane, I guess.
I love that jang calls the minifigs "dudes" from time to time.
I was messing around with the Galaxy Squad Vermin Vaporizer set and was pretty easily able to set up power functions with it.

+Eddie Meakin Because after awhile kids get bored of... anything & everything. Sales fizzle, and stuff begins to sit on store shelves collecting dust. Themes they aren't able to keep fresh enough or that don't have enough interest due to external factors have to be discontinued, otherwise the company will just go bankrupt making new sets that almost nobody wants anymore.

There is a part of me that really wanted you to put the Power Functions in there, and then instantly cut to the Ultimate R/C or R/C Mania logo, and do a classic Jang R/C video with it. That would have been hilarious. Please consider this at some point.
Back on topic, i think a lot of the themes of the Mars Missions series were very...i guess you could say "dark". Very adult themed, lots of capturing, pillaging of resources, constant violence, and was generally not the typical kid friendly sort of system that you would expect. It lost a lot of its whimsy with that you get in other similar system sets, like Ultra Agents, Ninjago, or Chima (for current examples at least), and perhaps took itself a bit too seriously, which i think turned a lot of parents off to the idea of buying it for their kids from the get-go. And, of course, that system didnt last very long on the typical 3-4 year cycle that most Lego systems do.

This reminds me a lot of War Of The Worlds by Jeff Wayne. Implementing the corpses as power sources or analytical purposes, (similar to he humans on which the martians would feast on the blood) and also, vehicles with grabber arms, to collect miscellaneous objects. (also similar to the 6 legged pulsating machine that would enslave humans through grabber arms). I wonder if they extracted the designs from the theme...
Is the War of the Worlds you're talking about different to the classic War of the Worlds by H G Wells?
Henry Price Yes, it was the one which was revamped into a musical by Jeff Wayne. (My personal favourite) however it is still based off of the same principle and concept as H G Well's version.

You are looking at it all wrong Jang! They are resuscitating an injured alien they discovered in their travels by pumping the energy from their ship INTO the alien!
Galaxy squad was cool because it had modular vehicles (including lots of white and for some sets orange), they fought aliens, and the aliens had cool vehicles...

I believe that lego sold this also with the power functions back then.
i think the special "flick fire" missiles on the crystal reaper was ok and i think they called it the crystal reaper because they used one if the aliens as something aaand a last thing is that i think that the liens are only attacking us because we A invaded them B we are taking their resources and C because we took one of them to experiment / use for power / research
