I think I neglected to mention that I won the Game of the Week voting for this game: www.chess.com/news/view/arch-bishops-blizzard-gentlemen-gnomes-win-pro-chess-divisions Thanks to everyone who voted for me and supported the Minnesota Blizzard! I'll be streaming our match tomorrow, Tuesday, Mar. 19, at 7:20 pm US Central time: twitch.tv/johnbartholomew
Just watched your standard chess 258 vid, where you lost to duailibe_l ... who you thought may be a GM. He wasn’t the GM you were thinking of, and if you search the name on lichess he has been flagged as a cheater. Your honour is restored!!! Amazing game btw. Those computers are tough.
One of the best or even the best chess content i've watched. Very deep, slow analysis. Even a 1600 player like me follows everything. Everything explained so well so i feel i improve even by only watching. I learn how to improve position, what to THINK about in some positions. You are mentioning not only about good moves in situation but showing how your mind is working and how chess learner's mind should work. I am really thankful for your work. I wish I could be your student, also because of how nice and humble person you are. I am really glad I found your work. Thanks and good luck with next games! :)
"...if you're afraid of the Budapest Gambit for some reason." You bet I'm afraid of it; haven't looked at it in ages. Which is why 1. Nf3 is the way to go every time. Slow and usually dull, but safe!
John, is fianchettoeing the DSB the trendiest way for Black to play against the Torre right now? Wouldn't it make more sense to play Be7 so as to avoid issues with the pin? Thanks.
The problem for Black is that White hasn't committed to the Torre before Black has to make that decision, e.g. 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 and now depending on Black's repertoire 2...e6 or 2...g6 are common, but unless Black knows specifically that White will play 3.Bg5, they'll probably play their normal move whether, it's a fianchetto of the DSB or not.
@@JohnBartholomewChess Ah --- good point. I didn't even consider that. Of course, in the case of 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 g6 3. Bg5, it is wrong for Black to play e6 (intending Be7) because that is simply too weakening of the dark squares, so Black would have to play Bg7 and deal with the potential pin anyway... But is Black doing all right if they dispense with playing h6?
I think I answered my own question (by re-watching the video - lol). So, if Black has played e5 with a bishop on g5, Qb6 and Qa5 (one or the other depending on the position) are both good ways to resolve the pin. However, those queen moves should be played simply without the addition of h6.
Crazy how 2 bad positional moves (1 maybe inconsequential) caused black so many problems. If he would have moved the bishop to the 7th rank alot of the tactics against the rook wouldn't have worked because they would have been connected. Then the white bishop move to g4 just to be kicked out with tempo and giving you your escape square.
I havent looked for it,but i've never seen a video where you loose.I think you dont loose that often,do you? I really like to think that i'm getting sharper by these videos. Thanks for the uploads.

Went from 1600-2000 on lichess and i gotta credit these vids. You are an incredible teacher. Thanks for the quality content.
Always love hearing progress stories. Happy to have helped! Thanks a lot for watching :)

Half hour lunch break. This is how im spending it.
Thanks for watching, Teddy :)
Really like your thorough explanations of reasoning behind every move. Especially about the Rooks: always a big debate inside your head!
Thank you so much for this awesome analysis, John! I think I should add the Torre to my repertoire. :)
Again really enjoyed this, very instructive comments about your advantages and how to handle the attack! A few losses of tempo and he was toast :)
Having 6 minutes on clock means bugger all if you're getting mated in a few moves lovely stuff JB!!
Thank you for showcasing how to navigate through a seemingly even position in the middlegame!
Great analysis. All the variations are really useful
Definitely the only channel I'm willing to stay up until 3 am to watch lol. Keep up the great work John!
Great game, John. I really appreciate your thorough explanations
You make it look so easy! Congrats on the win John!
I knew that name was familiar! I played Vinesh in the 3rd round of the 2017 National Open haha
Another super instructive video John. Thank you!
Today I learned that the Torre Attack is named after Mexican Grandmaster Carlos Torre Repetto! Viva México
gtgaxiola i thought it was named after Filipino GM Eugenio Torre?
@@jackhurley2676 Eugenio Torre's Wiki even states: "Not to be confused with Carlos Torre Repetto"
5:48, instead of ...Re8, is there a better way to retake if black pushed e4? Nxe4 or Bxe4.
Legend is back with more analysis.
Nice running analysis through the match. Enjoyed the vid.

Thank you so much for sharing your vast knowledge...
Amazing! Love you John!
Thanks for the analysis...interesting game because of time difference.
Great analysis!
5:43 I'm quite surprised there are no FBI jokes to be seen even after you said that.

The blizzards never freeze under time pressure.
Yup :)

The Torre is one of my main weapons and I got my best ever win playing a Bxg6 sac in very similar circumstances.
Hey John are you putting the arena kings tournament you played today on TH-cam ?
Probably not, although it's available in my Twitch archive: www.twitch.tv/videos/397677071
Soggy cheese 12? Does that mean there were 11 other soggy cheeses?

Tons of videos where I lose :) Check out my list blitz upload. Thanks for watching; glad my vids have helped!

But of course h7-h6 was the losing move! Ah the beauty of chess....
