Last week I won a FIDE rated game with White in the London System using the Fioni Attack! I was hearing your voice saying your dad taught you this plan! I am rated 1729 and my opponent was rated 1714 and I won in 30 moves. Thank you so much Simon!!!
Showing middle game ideas is really awesome. You have my gratitude for these type of lessons. Often even as an 1800 OTB player I look at a position, decide on a plan and it fizzles out if the opponent knows what they are doing... or in worst case scenarios I may end up worse with a move order or over looked tactic. I also have problem with openings where my pieces do not "flow" forward. You mentioned that in the video you like to do the same. Also, I think there are a great many of us who simply do not like playing against the Nimzo as white especially against someone higher rated and has a lot of book knowledge on the opening. It is tricky and it seems almost impossible for white to get their material to move forward after they establish a bind on the light squares by removal of the c3 knight.
through process of elimination alone ive noticed there are no huge theoretical blows to the torre. the London, Jobava, Trompowski etc... all do have some critical lines that might put them away someday at the amatuer level (already gone at the top)
Simon! Thanks for this lesson! I bought the dvd and it was really good! Is there a way to watch the videos only? Sometimes I’d like to review them on my free time on the phone. Thanks
Apart from the somewhat rude, aggressive, arrogant outburst over the obvious opening mistake (calling the Queen's Indian Defence the NimzoIndian Defence), I enjoyed the rest of this video on the Torre. Mistakes happen, both with live commentary and chess play and lessons can and should be learnt to help grow better and stronger. Best wishes and many thanks to GM Simon Williams.
hi simon, few days ago i purchased the Torre Attack from Chessbase, well impressed with this, the format with the intro and 2 overview clips then going through the 12 games and finally testing with the quizzes is winner for me, question - is do you use this same format on the colle zukertort dvd, i have purchased quite a number of your dvd's in the past and this is my favourite,
For some reason, there's a ton of low frequency content in the video. I watch youtube on my Tivo, hooked to an audio video receiver, which is hooked to speakers with a powered sub woofer. And I thought a neighbor was pounding on the walls or something. This is unusual for a Ginger GM video, which the audio is usually excellent. May want to send the audio through a high pass filter.
I think its pretty funny. I watched this video, when I first started learning chess, and had no idea what you were talking about with names/setups. And now a year later I'm rewatching this video and know exactly what you mean. Names/set-ups... Nimzo or Queen's Indian... who cares.
Man you are such a smartass, I would have never guessed that promoting his product is a good idea on youtube. You just missed that he has also put out nearly an hour of valuable opening strategy for unthankful bigots like you.
Simon confusing the names of two openings is a forgivable human error. Avoiding to admit the error by saying that names don't matter is a second error, much less forgivable than the first. Names are important. Otherwise you are not Simon Williams, you are some guy that holds some title and talks about some board game.
I must disagree when it comes to chess. People get too anal about certain names. Knowing the name of the opening is not going to help you get better at chess, knowing the patterns that you need to play on the board will help you get better. I rarely understood the name of some openings, even up to GM level. Even if I am some guy who talks about some game, the viewer will learn more about that game then if I am some fool who gets obsessed with names. I am also dyslexic, which often means I get names mixed up!

I love the Jobava London and now, I'm going to love the Torre...

Thanks a lot for sharing these really good ideas, Ginger Master.

I had to use a back up mic for this stream, sorry about that. Will fix asap.
@@GingerGM Understood, thanks for the response.
Very instructive! Thank you 🙏
Next video a lesson on the Neighbour Attack
Lets hope not...
Great stuff!!
Wow......really touchy about being corrected on the Nimzo! Somebody got bad butt hurt.
that was very helpfull thx for that!
Simon, the best
06:44 - Oi Ginger! You say white's second move is Kf3, but... but... but... in your day-vee-day, you recommend putting DSB out first.
Not in my Torre, in that you play 2 Nf3 and then 3 Bg5...
@@GingerGM Ah ok, I'll have to get the DVD!
Simon - when did you become Fide Master? Like 12 or 13?
Around 14 I think, too long ago to remember...
Thank you for the free lessons!

שלום תודה
Dah ! that's a shame GingerGM didn't explain the line when Black goes for the KID with 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 g6 ...
I wish ChessBase would just sell the videos so I could watch them on my Mac
jus a little bit :).... that was pretty awesome.
Glad you liked it.
1st comment for ginger GM! thanks
Well done sir
"You can but that DVD here" - 😉

The queens indian is a variation of the nizmo-indian anyway. People are just being stupid and not appreciating a grandmaster giving a free lesson
