When the camera shoots Anthony Quinn riding his horse in the distance and then eventually enters the the holy sanctuary area to confront the character Abu Jahl. Too many to mention.
I used to reenact Khalid bin Walid’s strategical manoeuvre during kindergarten after watching The Message for the 100th time on VHS. I was in awe of his tactical mind and how he out thought them and then gravitated towards Islam even though he was well respected. For me, Hamza and Khalid were my heroes growing up. I loved their bravery, masculinity, leadership. It mainly all stemmed from this movie. The level of self-confidence it instilled in me was inspiring, I understood the concept of Al wala wal bara just from learning the Seerah. A final point, I remember as a kid searching these actors in real life and finding out they didn’t revert and was genuinely so saddened but mostly baffled as to how being part of this project was just another role rather than a clear sign towards the right path. I remember I searched each one of them up and was actually so upset by it.
@@ThatCanadianBrother the was a red steel helicopter that was planted in the middle of the playground for the kids to enter and play in. We would wrestle with each other on one-side and I would do a lap around the helicopter and catch those I am wrestling against off-guard. I literally remember so vividly its bringing so much nostalgia. I’d also go home and get on top of my mother’s suitcase and pretend its a horse and prepare for battle against the Quraysh. Nobody could hold back my love for the Prophet & Sahabah, subhanallah. The creativity of a child is astounding especially for something they are passionate about. It pains me seeing kids today taking TikTok and social media influencers as heroes.
@@redman6790 Fascinating, haha! Yes, social media has destroyed the imagination (and often times the morals) of an entire generation of kids. I sometimes think that Muslim parents are even more likely than others to abandon their kids to the screen. It's cheap chlid-care. Lots of young kids with autism now though. :(
Anthony Quinn also did Omar Mukhtar, so how long of a vacation did he have between those two films? Was it filmed on location in Libya or any other places? Wonder how the actors acclimatized and how was their health during shooting, like in Lawrence of Arabia as well. Fascinating that some of the actors are probably still alive today, like the little boy in the film or others, subhanAllah. Really enjoyed this interview so much, would be great if you can do some similar interviews in the future, maybe actors who play Muslims in movies, or TV series in Canada, there was that Canadian series Little Mosque On The Prairie. The Message has definitely been a favourite film of western Muslims and Muslim audiences worldwide.
As Salaamu Alaikum! First let me say that I like your analogy of people learning and remembering what they love. My love of the Qur'an is responsible for me learning and remembering what I do of the Qur'an and Ahadeeth. The title here got my attention because I remember when the movie came out in 1976 and I wanted to see it because my family has a history with the Nation of Islam going back to 1957. So anything relating to Islam I wanted to see. But then suddenly the movie was gone due to protest I was told and right away I assumed that it Christians protesting it only to find out that I was wrong. It was Muslims protesting because they thought that some person was playing the role of Prophet Muhammad pbuh like people played the role of Jesus and Moses in other movies. In 1977 I was in the military and sent to West Germany where I got to see the movie on the military base at the theater with my roommate who later embraced Al-Islam
Thanks very much for sharing your insight and experience. I was a baby when The Message released, so I don't have any direct experience or memories of the political events that surrounded the release of that film. I did however read up a bit about it and your assessment of what happened is 100% right. I'm glad that, in the fullness of time, the film was appreciated by western Muslim audiences and I think we acknowledge the educational and da'wah role that it has served over the years, despite the fact that it had a limited release and, till now, I have never actually seen it televised here in Canada. Alhamdulillah for your friend who accepted Islam after watching the film. Thanks again for sharing.
I really really thought he became Muslim because of the start... May Allah guide us all and maintain us on the true path.... This movie deserves more recognition . Great interview
Sorry if the beginning of the video created that false hope for you. The reason I included that clip in the beginning was because it was Michael's most powerful scene in the movie. May Allah s.w.t. guide everyone to the correct Path.

Did any actor of the Message accept Islam and revert? I tried to google it but failed finding 1 actor. I can imagine that working with the story of Islam can lead some actors to think deeper. I was a Christian and when I started reading the Quran I became convinced and reverted at some point.
Not that I know of. However there are people who watched the film and converted to Islam as a result, alhamdulillah. My wife recalls a news program in the U.K. back in the 70s that briefly interviewed a couple that went into the cinema as non-Muslims, watched The Message (which they weren't even planning on watching), and basically converted shortly after that experience.
Assalamoalikum brother. Amazing effort in compiling this interview. Do you know which village in Morocco part of the film was shot? And also Sebha Libya where the battle scenes took place. Do you know area exactly? I would love to visit both places as a historic significance. P.s Irene Papas just recently passed away.
