Already from the intro to this VN, it's right up my alley. That was great lmao The vibes in this one are immaculate, and it feels almost like it was based on a real event that happened to the author (hopefully not cause damn that was uncomfortable). I do wish there was a bit more story to this one, but for a game jam it's very solid in terms of the writing. Looking forward to potentially more from this author in the future
Took a moment to get there, but we got those uncomfortable vibes. Hats off to Kah for the performance in this too. Really killing those line reads. Not sure the process behind this, but it feels like the idea behind this came from that confrontation. Get a good short story out of it. Earlier scenes recontextualized by the conclusion. Don't understand the bit with the feral, but besides that, this is a well executed.
my guess is the "feral" scene is meant to play on expectations somewhat, leave you guessing as to whether the climax will go for a horror angle of some kind
@@MIAM_MIAM_CUISINE It was loosely inspired by scenes like the infamous out of place jumpscare from Mulholland Drive and the clown holding a dead dog scene in Gregg Araki's Nowhere. Something that's unexpected and unconnected to the story. I put a bit more intent into this scene, but I will not elaborate.
Chipmunks are squirrels with a tail the same proportions as squirrels, they are just small squirrels. It isn't as fluffy as tree squirrels(for example: the Fox Squirrel), about as fluffy as a ground squirrel tail. Also fun fact, Woodchucks are a type of Marmot which are a category of large ground squirrels. (I hope both of you enjoyed the Long horse and voreobouros I gave you at BLFC)
This was a neat lil short story. I'm happy it didn't turn genre at the outside scene(odd scene looking back) The cordial ending Jason and Ben had was a real good read. It's nice to experience these small moments into these lives
Can't say it's the strangest description I've heard, weirdest one to me was that it was described as "eating a snail." Both descriptions make me wonder how they were cooked to achieve such reactions.
@@theblackcatgirl7013 I can kind of understand the snail comparison, having served and eaten escargot with mushrooms in the past; they're both pretty earthy-tasting, with a not totally dissimilar texture when cooked together, though ideally mushrooms should be cooked until they're, like, actually crispy and browned along the edges.
17:15 "If you don't have depression, what are you even doing? Might as well just make a human VN, they always seem perky in those ones" ...Huh. Is human depression too real a topic for a VN (I don't know how common those are, but they do exist - DDLC, for example)? Perhaps the point of the "furry layer" is to insulate against topics that would feel too personal if portrayed by human characters (now that I think about it, Animal Farm is probably a good example that). 45:18 The source I found for that quote is comedian Solomon Georgio, but I don't know if it's the original one. 1:10:48 I'd never heard about "none pizza with left beef", and it's wild it ever existed (it's truly a customization gem). As a bonus, I've just heard from Hank Green about the cheeseburger order with no onions, ketchup, mustard, pickles, buns or patties (in other words: 🧀). 1:14:12 "I just didn't want to feel so alone! Is it so wrong to want to be loved?" More like it's unreasonable to expect to find someone who can reciprocate your feelings and doesn't have any hang-ups 🤷 I feel love is more of a lottery than it's often acknowledged (so "expecting to win" isn't reasonable), but people just keep trying anyway because you only need to be lucky once. It kinda reminds me of the conclusion of The Precarious World thought from Disco Elysium: "How *not* to lose? It is impossible not to. The world is balanced on the edge of a knife. It’s a game of frayed nerves. You’re pushed on by numbers and punitive measures: pain, rejection, and unpaid bills. You can either play or you can crawl under a boat and waste away -- turn into salt or a flock of seagulls. Your enemies would *love* that. Or you can fight. The only way to load the dice is to keep on fighting" I just don't fully agree with the "never give up" mentality (everyone has their limits), but I do agree that persistence can pay off (it's more a matter of whether you're willing to keep trying until you get what you want, and if the success is impactful enough to make up for all the failed attempts).
Dumb question, but does anyone know what Keith was referring to when he talked about the nosleep podcast reading of the whistles story? I'm having trouble finding the right episode number

It’s so surreal reading a VN that’s based in my home state, sage nailed the setting
Yeah, same. And for anyone who's wondering, The Electric Fetus is a real record shop with locations in both Minneapolis and Duluth.
So you're from Minnesota? I've been to Minnesota once ( my brother's wife and family are from Minnesota)
@@MrRadar The Duluth location actually closed back in 2020. The reference here is me coping and creating a universe where it still exists. 🥲
I love that Longhorse is long enough to reach into other games

I can't believe we still cannot escape Longhorse

If you ever visit the area I do recommend the Electric Fetus as a destination, at least more so than the Mall of America.
Doing stuff with Kah is fun, but man. Novembear really had a tone and people stuck with it. Walls is really good but its rough

What mushrooms are you eating that don't taste like anything?

7:58 Relateable too.
Can’t wait to read this one

47:47 Ive run into "set a custom speed + pause *then* interrupt, which is less jank but still pretty jarring!
I wanted a LOT more from this story ! It was good but needs more story
