      Yeah, certainly seems to be the case with MSFS. The flight models on almost every aircraft available fall short in this regard (Flying Iron Spit is the only exception to the rule - no idea what kind of voodoo they used). I wasn’t placing the blame at your guys door, I “blame” MSFS, but I think people would like to know whatever the cause.
      I know you guys will figure it out though, I have faith! ; )

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations the reason is that this is a completely new simulation that whilst based on FSX is very different from FSX and Engineers used to working with that can find it difficult, especially when the documentation is not 100% there and they have to try figure something out for themselves. Hopefully you will see our flight models improve over time as we all come to understand this new Sim and how to get the most out of it.

      Haha, you aren’t the first to bring it up Matthew. I believe they chose it because they love the era and do plan on making a number of radial engined aircraft going forwards. I see there’s rumours on this thread that their next project might have 2 radial engines, so that ought to make up for it haha! : P

      Thank you once again Jeffrey! Yes, the low speed handling characteristics are far from ideal, but unfortunately this does rather seem to be the norm for MSFS aircraft doesn’t it. . . The Flying Iron Spit certainly being the exception, but I’m guessing they must have had to work incredibly hard at it, or figured out some clever trick (maybe even a bit of external flight modelling going on there? I’m not sure). Even then, the FI Spit still has its own flight modelling issues. It must be a tough sim to model this sort of stuff in, as I can’t believe the vast majority of developers just couldn’t be bothered etc.

    What a great review! As a new MS2020 owner I'm just starting to dabble with add-ons such as this. I have always loved the P40 so I might look at getting it. Stockton beach (near Williamtown) that you flew along is at certain times of the year one of the largest known nurseries for Great White Sharks (a lot of Aussies don't know that)! I wasn't gonna buy this as I'm generally not really into US WW2 warbirds but after watching your earlier preview and reading good things over on the forums and the price being only ~£20 (that's the sweet spot for me!) I decided why not give it a punt and I don't regret it. Haven't flown it much though (got a puppy a few weeks back and she's taking up most my time!) but the few flights I've had I've really enjoyed it. The devs seem pretty cool too and post a lot on the forums and I trust the few minor problems will be ironed out (one of them also ported the Goose to MSFS which is another nice plane). They've dropped hints about their next plane being a twin engined radial, hope it's a Beechcraft Model 18 or Lockheed Electra as they're pretty cool and I had fun flying FSX versions of them in the past. Anyway cheers for the video!

    Been thinking of getting this, but as someone with a lot of time looking at P40s, I have to say for a FS2020 design I'm very underwhelmed, esp. for the price. If it was $5-10 I'd be more forgiving.
    I'd like to have seen more detail on the fabric control surfaces, the landing gear/wheel wells/doors, and just a little more overall fidelity, textures, and attention to detail both on the exterior and inside the cockpit. If one looks too long, a lot of details are just not correct inside and out. Panel seams aren't correct all along the wing and fuselage, structures are missing or crudely modeled, and some of the wear texturing seems inconsistent. In the cockpit the major interface all feels about right but there's a lot I could nitpick for basically every part and area, and I'm far from a P40 expert!
    Let's say I'm being generous here, knowing the actual challenges of 3D modelling and doing research. But if I take off the generosity filter for a moment I'd say the interior is taking the piss. It feels like 2012-era War Thunder level fidelity. Pretty sure modern War Thunder P40 looks about as good.
    I can't really comment on the flying characteristics, although I'll take your word on the review about the issues encountered.
    Even if the overall feel is more-or-less there, I would want to see a few refinement passes for a paid MSFS aircraft.

      Hello Scott,
      I can certainly understand your criticisms; worth mentioning that this was Big Radials first ever project and indeed the sim was still in its infancy at the time (so I think as a dev team, they were still finding their feet). The P40 is an aircraft I’m not all that familiar with - I have no doubt your observations are correct regarding accuracy.

      Yeah that one does look really good.
      I do want to reiterate that I appreciate the amount of work that goes into these models and I could not imagine how long goes into every aspect, especially the behind the scenes stuff. So no disrespect really intended to the Big Radials crew overall.
      Just as a CAD jockey who's spent a lot of time modelling around P40 geometry, I've got a pretty good idea what the interiors look like and caught this one a bit lacking and it's unfortunate as I love the B model.
      On one hand I think it best they keep working on more aircraft, at the same time of course I'd love to see an update of this one to clean up some detail to a standard that matches, say, the Hellcat or that new P40 F model.
      Of course what I'd love to see from Big Radials is to work on a P36 adaptation of this project, with the 14 cylinder radial. That might be good incentive to go back and update the core fuse and wing models across the Curtiss family, and then you're mostly only needing to add in the P36 front end and some of the other nuances of the H.75 vs the H.81. of course you then could get away with charging for it as a separate aircraft in my mind which would definitely help offset the costs to update basically two models to a state where they can compete against this new P40 F, and for those who already bought the P40 B they will get updates and then a new plane to download.

    Especially multiplayer model and sound needs work on this one. Yesterday someone loaded in with the p40b and my sim fell down to 5 fps (rtx 3090, i9 9900k, 32gb 3200mhz) with generic models off. Also the sound of that p40b was extremely loud. To the point that even when it was 5nm away, I couldn’t hear my spitfire.
    I also mentioned the lack of a gunsight to the developer and got a reponse that their model doesn’t have one... maybe they’ll listen to you?

    Which of the three P40 varients do you think is the best? This, inibuilds, or flight replica?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gary,
      Overall, the iniBuilds version would get my recommendation currently. None of the available options are prefect, but the iniBuilds P-40 is the most well rounded and it’s also the cheapest. That being said, I gather the Big Radials P-40 should be getting an upgrade at some point and as Big Radials products have come a long way since their first release, it might be worth waiting and seeing what they have to offer there. . .
      I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

    How do you trim to tale heavy pleas I’m having trouble with the landings.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Berserker Dog,
      It’s just a case of trimming up on the elevator. I’ve found if you keep trimming back until you actually need a little forward pressure on the stick to keep the aircraft coming down, then the aircraft responds much more appropriately in the flare. It feels strange and takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s as per the checklist it seems.
      Hope that helps? All the best! : )

      Hi Le Milan,
      Unfortunately sim-update 5 has caused a lot of issues with a lot of addons. The way that cockpit click-spots and interactions work has been changed in the update, so I expect that is what is causing you issue. Hopefully Big Radials will have it fixed up soon!

    Just bought this thing, it's really fun to fly but it's an Absolute bastard to take off in using a controller lol

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you’re enjoying it Craig! Haha, I’ll bet XD
      Try using some backstick to keep the tail on the ground initially, that tends to help. Also, some preemptive rudder input before coming up on the power, tends to work on a lot of taildraggers in the sim (avoiding full power for takeoff is also generally a good idea). Ultimately though, it is a bit of a tricky beast, all the more so with a controller I would imagine.
      Best of luck! : )

    I'm a newbie getting into aviation world aren't spitfire and tomahawk the same?

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do look somewhat similar Matt, but they are very different aircraft. The Spitfire was a British fighter, built by Supermarine. It has a more elliptical wing and lacks the large intake under the engine. It also just so happens to be the most beautiful aircraft ever created ; )
      The Tomahawk was an American fighter built by Curtiss, with the aforementioned differences (among many others of course) from the Spitfire.
      It’s probably a bit more confusing here, as I’m using a Royal Australian Air Force livery, which looks mighty similar to the Royal Air Force (and so makes it look more like a Spitfire or Hurricane).
      Hope that helps a bit. Welcome to the world of aviation! : )

      Yeah, the Red Arrows will do that haha. Check out DCS if you haven’t done so already. The sim is completely free and you can also pick up a really nice freeware T45, which is almost identical to the Hawk (the jet the Red Arrows fly). You can even go and download a Red Arrows livery for it, should you wish. If you’re wanting to get into the fast jets ultimately, DCS is definitely the best sim for it!

    I gotta say the engine sounds are a real buzzkill. It's a shame, but it can probably be worked on. Also it seems far too stable from what I'd imagine from a WWII fighter.

      It’s funny Jagh, as I mentioned in the video, engine sounds always seem to divide the audience. I quite like them personally, but that’s not to say that they’re necessarily to everyone’s taste. What is it you feel needs some work?
      Too stable? That’s just my flying skills no? : P
      No, it is quite a stable model. As I say, noticeably more so than the other warbirds I’ve flown in the sim. I can’t say whether that’s true to life or not, but I do ind the aircraft pleasant to fly nonetheless.
