How to Replace Idler Pulley in Minutes Ford Falcon BA to BF series or Ford Territory - Idler pulley noise? Learn how to replace a noisy pulley in your car WITHOUT having to remove anything else OR release tension! Pulley wear will cause your pulley to squeak. A worn out pulley bearing will make a terrible loud noise! I will show you how to replace the pulley EASILY in a few minutes! The serpentine belt in your car powers the accessories such as air conditioning, power steering, the alternator, and water pump. I recommend using a GATES brand replacement pulley, as this Dayco one only lasted a few years before the bearing was again noisy!
* NOTE: This video of How to Replace an Idler Pulley, was intended as an option for those fitting the idler pulley by themselves - it can be much easier if you can grab an assistant for a few minutes, to take tension off the belt. So, if fitting a NEW serpentine belt as well, this MAY be more difficult if you don't have 3 hands! To help, use a 3/8” drive socket spanner, and fit it directly into the square hole at the bottom of the belt tensioner - that way you will be able to loosen the belt a little, to facilitate slipping on the idler pulley, and also do this when fitting a new belt.

Thank you Steve for the mechanical lesson on how to change a pulley yourself without the aid of expensive labour costs for a mechanic to do it for you. Craig Prince yes mate; in this day and age it can definitely pay dividends to do at least some of the work that you might otherwise farm out, because at least you know it's done right & the work actually carried out! Having worked on cars and bikes all of my life now and then, normally I hate it, but this one was particularily easy; made especially so as I decided to make a video at the same time... tell your lovely wife that the majority of t-shirts I own, I bought in New Zealand - my favourite place as I've mentioned; 15 trips in the last decade gives you an indication of that! haha
