    the cable has a grappling hook on the end. Luke uses one from the Speeder to climb up to the belly of the AT-AT to cut the panel open with his lightsaber, enabling him to throw a charge in.
    you could do with making some smoke out of cotton wool sprayed with grey and black, coming from the back of the Speeder.
    very well made. I enjoyed watching the build.

      Thanks. If I was to remake it again, being a little more experienced, I would probably add some smoke.

    • @tommynoisemusic

      well i meant using the cable to simulate the snow speeder in flight. maybe other modelers have done that but i haven' t seen any other at-at snow scenes doing that.

    • @GrossModels
      @GrossModels  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh, right. It just seemed natural. I was concerned it wouldn’t be in scale, but it looks close enough I think.

    a cheap substitute for snow effects paste is shaving foam (like the one that comes out of the can as foam, not gel) mixed with baking soda, which you can play around with the ratio as to how smooth or coarse you want it, then you can stick it down with pva glue

    • @GrossModels
      @GrossModels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. How long would this last? Doesn’t sound very permanent.

      m.th-cam.com/video/-txMK_OBgH8/w-d-xo.html
      A few months ago, and i tried it out then and its held together fairly well so far.
      Im sure its not as good as like tamiya snow effects or something, but it is about 20x cheaper.

    Try using cell-u-clay (paper mache) instead of plaster. Plaster is a horrible medium for dioramas. It is unstable and heavy. You can drill the former and it won`t crack. Cheers.

    I would have diluted the PVA and applied it with a brush across the entire surface of the base foam, to ensure a consistent bond.
    The idea to suspend the speeder by it's tow cable is inspired! I wonder why nobody thought of that before?

    • @GrossModels
      @GrossModels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably a better way to apply the pva, yes. I am sure others have used the tow cable idea, although I can’t remember seeing it done.

    • @drewlovelyhell4892
      @drewlovelyhell4892 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrossModels To be fair, I commented before I saw you cover the whole thing in a thick layer of plaster, so the glue wouldn't have mattered too much!
      I'm thinking about scratch-building a 12th scale DF.9 turret to go with my Black Series Hoth figures.
      It's a pretty basic structure, maybe an upturned bucket will be a suitable basis.

    The cable should come from the rear harpoon gun though and not the engine.. Great diarama, looks very effective.

    • @GrossModels
      @GrossModels  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Actually I’d looks like it detaches from about where I have it. Also, the gun wouldn’t be strong enough to support the speeder in my model.

    • @iansept72
      @iansept72 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I have checked and you are indeed totally correct, my apologies I am an obvious idiot. I was confusing the shooting of the rear harpoon gun and not where the cable attached to the speeder. Good job and excellent diorama.

    • @GrossModels
      @GrossModels  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would make sense to come from the gun, I can’t figure out how it would work the way it is! Thanks for the compliments.

    Out of curiosity, why not paint a different colour on the snow first so that you can see where the white is. Maybe even a grey so that you can then 1) see where the white is going and 2) allow for greater control of colour variation?

    • @GrossModels
      @GrossModels  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a bad idea, if I’d thought of it I would have. The white did show up when I was painting it as it was wet.
