  • How many different times can Jo Whiley introduce the news? BBC protocol insists presenters must now use the exact phrase: "This is Radio 2, on the BBC Sounds App, on your smart speaker, and on 88-91 FM" before the news. Only two presenters have been permitted by the Controller of Radio 2 to NOT do this: Steve Wright and Liza Tarbuck.
    Does Jo Whiley dare to put herself into this exclusive club? Or is it just incompetence to learn a simple phrase despite working for the station since 2009? You decide...

    I think she stops herself in at least some of these because she thinks she's going to run out of time. And she evidently feels she has to tell us it's the news, even though everyone knows what happens after the on the hour ident! It doesn't feel planned or rebellious, just a bit pragmatic...

      I reckon the latter is maybe because she doesn't want it to sound like her show is ending.

    i don't know why they don't use a generic voiceover like radio 5 live do.
