Sara thank you for this video. I’m a medical education provider (my focus is slightly different, I train medical laboratory technologists). Your video has opened my eyes to the challenges some of our students may face to attend our training. I’m going to talk to our travel coordinator and our D&I office to make sure we have a plan in place to accommodate learners with special requirements. I want all my students to feel comfortable and welcome and not worrying about what there is to eat or other religious/cultural requirements.

What these people don't understand is that now an observant Muslim woman can't work in the public sector, unless they have a modification similar to the Jewish one. At least Jews have worn wigs in addition to scarves for a long time and aren't excluded to the same degree.

As someone with a literally-life-threateningly serious shellfish allergy (to the point where breathing near it is dangerous), the idea of being able to walk into a grocery store and pick up sushi without any fear of death is absolutely mind-boggling to me. I know there's no Jewish/kosher grocers in my town, but you've convinced me to make it a point to look for them when I travel so I can FINALLY one day eat sushi without being afraid it's going to kill me.

    • @bipolartorecovery1485

Yeah, I'm spiritually neutral but i can definitely relate about requiring at least a mini fridge for my room because of my prescription diet. I always favor places that have kitchens in them so i can have my stay in comfort and peace of mind without worrying about being sick or just the hassle of having to leave my room for something quick that's either tasteless since that's the only way i can explain a means of my food without getting sick or having to find a hospital that happens to have the cocktail of meds I'd need if they got it wrong and most hospitals don't carry it/make it. So yeah, surprisingly relatable

The absolute biggest take from the video is joy received from the simplest things we often take for granted - a nice hot shower, nice clothes, evening little pampering, even the very fact of waking up in the morning alive and well. AND the sense of gratitude for all these things. This was really...refreshing. And encouraging. Like "I want to be able to feel such gratitude for so many good things in my life too!"

Dear Sara, I would travel for you indeed! As a religious Muslim wearing a head covering, and having had the deal with exclusion from school and work in the past due to it, the bit about the contract was something I felt deeply for you. I had and have friends who also wore artificial wigs and one who even shaved their head. Having faced this discrimination since youth and still facing it, I sometimes almost lose hope in humanity but my faith saves me and I treat this as yet another challenge of faith, another test. It is still difficult to bear and you have my solidarity. It was very illuminating to see and understand struggles of staying at a non-jewish hotel but I was heartened seeing comments from fellow subscribers who are in tourism and education industries telling you how they will now work to make things more accommodating to everyone. You are doing amazing work with your videos in increasing awareness and strengthening solidarity and empathy. Peace be upon you, I hope you have a lovely end of the year!

I worked at a Wyndham a few years back and let me tell you- as far as bed linens and cleanliness goes,... The linens are washed in cold water with eco friendly soap so I HIGHLY suggest to bring your own pillows and pull down the covers to check for dirty sheets because the times for cleaning a room/unit is significantly reduced to a half an hour at MOST so ALOT of cleaning staff has to cut corners. So tips from the trade- call and request a new set of sheets and blankets, check the shower curtains for soap spots or shampoo/soap residue, and if there are kitchens run a load of dishes in the dishwasher. 😎👍 Oh yeah- use Lysol wipes on the counters.....trust me- you don't wanna know.

Always puts a smile on my face when you post! As for travel packing tips, my number one tip that I use for every long distance trip is using military-style backpacks/rucksacks, which is something I picked up from my dad. He frequents an army surplus store in our area, and bought me a small backpack with multiple pockets for a week long trip to El Salvador. I wasn't sold on it at first because it looked smaller than the average backpack, but I was able to fit quite literally all of my luggage into it, check it as a carry-on (avoiding luggage fees was a huge plus), and carried it with ease through what felt like miles of airport terminals. It may not work for everyone, but for me it helped me limit my luggage to what I truly needed and saved me from keeping up with bulky, heavy suitcases. As an added bonus, they're also usually made durable enough to handle heavy roughhousing and comfortable enough to be worn for as long as necessary.

Hello Sarah. I would just like to say a general thank you for your videos. I've watched a few so far. As a non Jewish man, it has been very informative learning about your life and culture. Having lived in Montreal, the orthodox/Hasidic community had always been very mysterious and a little intimidating. Videos like these are wonderful in sharing our experiences and I believe help bring people closer and understand each other better. Your love for your religion and culture really come through and you narrate in such a warm, inviting and respectful way. Please keep up the great work. I will definitely try some of your recipes too!

Packing cubes are great for packing lighter. I’m in the US and my family (parents, brothers etc) are in Europe. When I travel with my husband and our four young kids, we try to just have three suitcases. Packing cubes help so much with that.
And yes, I hear you on pregnancy doing strange things to our bodies. I have a newborn and I’m still nursing so I know my body is holding onto fat to feed baby. I just tell myself it did an amazing thing in growing a new life (and now sustaining the new life) so I try to give myself grace. And baby wakes me every hour at night to eat so I don’t have much motivation to get up at 5:30 to exercise. 😂 Maybe in a few more months time…

We didn’t keep kosher growing up.. mom just didn’t serve pig of course and we didn’t eat milk and meat together.. as well as we are both Jewish women, I still find it fascinating and lovely how our home life can be so different but we are still proud, strong , kind and loving Jewish women all the same.

As a mom of children with food allergies- and a food allergy myself- I can totally sympathize with all of the thought and planning it takes for you to travel. Question: Why aren't you allowed to wear your headscarf during your meetings? Also, do they give you any sort of discount or anything because you provide your own meals? I know we often get the short end of the stick on that, just because they can't/won't provide safe meals.

      Hello ladies!!
I live in Canada and like many other countries like France they have embarked in a societal laïcisation of the country and more specifically in Quebec where they went all out even banning outwardly/ open signs of religion as public servants : so it is now illegal for a person of faith to dress the way they want as public servants and that includes hospitals, schools, governmental institutions,
      These laws include banning headgear,…
As you can imagine companies with the same leanings also jumped in and did dress code policies accordingly!
That is what happens when you let the government enter your life and determine what is ok or not when it comes to living your faith
      Very sad IMO

Thank you Sara for your kind words of encouragement! As women, lifting each other up helps us to continue to shine like the unique jewels we are. Being of different faiths just shows that our differences create a jewel box full of colour and beauty! I learn more and more about Sephardic by watching your videos and I thank you for that. G-d puts people in our paths for a reason and you are surely here to show tha we are more the same than we are different. And yes, I WOULD TRAVEL FOR YOU! Blessings! 💕💕

Thank you, I enjoyed this. I have been learning about kosher food as my daughter-in-law is Jewish and practices kosher eating (if that’s the right phrase). As a fellow Canadian I was pleased to see that I could keep up my tradition of Purdy’s chocolates on the table at Easter dinner because you can get Kosher premade boxes from them! To add to the meal confusion, my son-in-law is Muslim so I need to watch for things to also be Halal. For the most part, if I can get something Kosher it’s good for both families. So much for this old grandma in the middle of Rural Alberta to learn 😊
Edited to add: I would travel for you ❤

The angry skin is because the hotel air is so dry! It happened to me too but I started doing a bedside/waterbottle humidifier and extra moisturizing night cream when I travel and it helped immensely!

I’m vegan and gluten free, so I have to take my own food everywhere too. You just get used to it, but with no refrigerator it’s a misery! I love your channel, I am learning so much. You are a great teacher.
