A crock pot makes it sooooo much easier! ......so does just leaving it in chunks. The chunks make several batches and I just cover them in clean water in a jar in the frige inbetween batches. Love my Chaga!

This is a highly revered medicine of the Indigenous peoples in the northern regions of western Canada. This is their history and cultural teaching. No Canadians would have known about this amazing medicine fungus they've been using for thousands of years. If you do buy Chaga, try to support the Indigenous suppliers of it. Respect their protocols.

If you simmer it a long time your tea will be very strong so especially the first batch don't run it to long. Each batch after will take a little longer. Up to 5-6 times. If you make it like the host shows you'll want to dillute it. His looked way to strong to be tasty tea. It would be good cold in cranberry juice 1 to 4 mix. Don't throw away the chunks afterward either. Dry them somewhat and put them in a jar with vodka to extract the medicine water can't release. This takes a couple months but is better than wasting them. Then dry them and use them for tinder. They hold a spark for ever.

Good directions. For making a hot water extraction. That's the good stuff , but not what I would call a tea. For a simple tea don't pulverize your chaga. Small chunks are best. Simmer for 10 minutes or so first time. let it steep until cool enough to drink and enjoy. The chunks can be used 4 or 5 times then used for an alcohol extraction. Mix that ,with the stuff Tony just made and you've got a dual extract containing everthing chagas got to give. I do this tea process in a mason jar in a double boiler arrangement. Just keep the jar in the fridge until the nuggets are spent then replace and start over. This is an old video and I'm sure Tony's updated the info and learned much more about chaga by now.

The difference is tea vs hot water extraction. I know they sound like the same thing but they're not. Chaga tea would be made like regular black tea. Steep a little tea bag for a couple minutes. What the host demonstrated is a hot water extraction like you would use as a tincture. It will be very strong and not what you'd want to drink as a tea. I have some I use as a wood stain, lol. The host, Tony , is a mushroom genius , but I think when this video was produced he may have been new to chaga. Most say bring it up to a boil then reduce heat. Crock-pots work great for this.

Hey guys, quick question I am hoping someone can answer:
For Chaga "Sayan Siberian Pure Raw Chaga Mushroom Chunks", the directions for preparing are as follows,
"Pour warm water (no hotter than 122º F) over 4 to 5 teaspoons of raw chaga chunks, and let steep for 50-60 minutes. Chaga pieces can reused a couple of times before discarding."
I notice some people "boil" which is almost 100 degrees over the recommended "warm" water of 122ºF. Which is correct - Boiling 212ºF, or warm at 112ºF?
Boiling it would kill anything "living" which I don't think is ideal, and why the recommended temp is 112ºF. Someone educate me please.

That's the stuff that has the cancer fighting constituants in it. For a tea you can re-use 4-5 times and then make the alcohol extact. Mix that with the extract the host made and you've got a dual extract. no waste.

@@IamColt13 There are people growing it but unless the price seriously spikes you'll probably never see that happen. Come up to northern NY state and I'll take you out to find some. Reishi seasons coming up soon too. I sell on ebay for $14 per pound for dry conks. $22 For ready to use pieces. Just sayin. Many sell for $50 a pound or more. Just for a heads -up. Drinking a tall cold glass of chaga/cranberry juice right now. My energy drink.

Boil the water, turn the element down to keep it at 180 degrees then drop the big chunks in the water. Simmer for 90 minutes then let it cool, refrigerate and consume one cup a day nice and cold. Use 25 grams of Chaga chunks to 2.5 liters of water and you have 10 days of tea for one person. Keep the chunks and use them again and again, store them in the refrigerator. DO NOT BOIL THE CHAGA! As the tea becomes lighter, use less water, eventually get more from your source, I'm lucky, I have a whole stand of Birch trees on a remote lake and they have a TON of Chaga to gift the people on the lake.
If you release the dark essence gently by not boiling but simmering, it tastes just like a sweet (use the best water you can find) but not bitter cold tea. The local natives here say they have users who have cured diagnosed cancers by drinking it daily.

What your telling people to do is "How to Make A Hot Water Extraction". You can use this for tea but you'll want to dilute it. That's pretty much what this guy did as well. Most say bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer but for tea 15 minutes the ( first run) will make tea. I don't bust it up to powder for tea either. Small chunks in a mason jar. You can re-use 4-6 times then bust up fine and soak in everclear for about 3 months. Combine that with what the host made and you'll have a dual extraction. Your welcome. Oh , source. David Wolfes book , Stamets books, tedtalks and every video on youtube and chaga101 recipes. I don't use coffee filters either. Favorite drinks chaga and cranberry juice blends cold and chaga/chickory root w/ maple sugar for hot beverage.

@@sherripalmer6909 That's true and if I was doing a long simmer in a crock pot for a water extraction for tincture small would be better. For me , for tea , I use a two to three inch chunks steep for tea strength and re-use 5-6 times. I'm a chaga forager and while I don't like to waste anything I like my tea drinkable not a tar like consistancy. When making tinctures I take the used up tea chunks, redry , then grind the chunks for alcohol extraction. I dry them only because it doesn't foul up the grinder as much. If you grind them for tea its harder to re-use. Which I think is wastefull. The bigger chunks when used up and dried make great bug repellant incense too.

I find it much easier to just put my chaga chunks in the coffee machine and make like 10 chaga with it and then grind it and make 2 chaga coffee again ...why smash it with a hammer and waste energy, time grounding and all that powder flying in the air like ??
u can infuse the mushroom many time so where do you put all that wet chaga after a big mess like that ? isnt it just easier to dry like 4-5 small medium chunks on your counter ? Where do you put all that liquid in a jar ? again waste of time .. much easier in the coffee machine trust me .. ive done it .. i have enough already to bottle my kombucha cause its necessary for the Bubble .. not the chaga
ive done both method and honestly i prefer the coffee machine more .. yes the chaga is less darker .. but i find it more drinkable too.

DON'T hammer the chaga .. lol .. kinda horrified when i seen that ... i use a cheese grater to make powder .. chaga should be dark but not black like this guys .. if its too strong you can create kidney/liver problems ...
