Man, when you talked about dice and the people who want to kill this mechanism... Damn, I understand you 👊🏻 fortunately there are some publishers and creators that doesn't follow along this idea 🎲
    Great review by the way

@@TheDungeonDive it's odd isn't it - I first looked at this review because this game invokes feelings of childhood tales and feelings of comfort...my mother died not long ago and it's searching for these very same feelings of comfort that that I've ended up back here.
I've seen this back in stock also in the UK.
      Thanks again.

The shut up and sit down review is from 2013 - it was only uploaded to TH-cam after being on their website for years. Nice video thanks. I enjoy dice games so I don't get why people hate them and agree with you about them.

"Cubes of Divination" is brilliant. Shut up and Sit downs review of this game put me off buying it. I don't have a lot of people to play with so the games i buy have to be very specific. I have Mysterium as its easy to explain and fun to play. Legacy of Dragonholt and Sherlock: Consulting Detective are solo. But the most fun i have had is when i purchased "Stuffed Fables". I play when my son and I visit my dad and three generations play Toys playing through a wonderful adventure book. Its amazing playing co-operatively. My son sacrificing dice to donote stuffing to us. Applauding when we work together to defeat a boss. The dice stuff i love. If you dont get what you want it simply adds to the drama. I agree that there appears to be a snobbery to games relying on Dice roles.
You've convinced me to purchase Mice & Mystics. And before i watched this video i watched your Arkham Horror 3rd Edition video and i want that too. Your videos seem far more impassioned than others. Thanks for the video.

Hey, thanks a lot. I really appreciate the detailed and kind response. :) Sounds like you and your son are really getting into Stuffed Fables! That's awesome. I'm betting you two will also enjoy M&M.

This game is a beautiful masterpiece, the story, setting, and combat. One of the best made dungeon crawlers. Alot of board games today take inspiration from it's mechanisms.

Not really. To me I do not see what is really special about this game except the story.

The fairytale charme hides an often difficult game with an extremely tight time limit that doesn't leave much room for errors. I wonder why so many people always tell me that this is so great for casual and younger audiences. Apart from the admittedly charming setting and story there really isn't much there.

I recommend the red wall series.

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes! I've only read the first three. I was already in high school when they came out (or when I discovered them), so they weren't a huge part of my childhood, but I loved the first few. For Christmas a few years ago, I bought them for my nephews.

Beautiful speech about dice. Very easy to take them for granted, and to overlook the modern gaming push toward a purely Euro strategy driven experience, which is hard to reconcile with classic dungeon crawling/adventure games.
Love the book recommendation. Going to add that to my list. Have you read Redwall? It remains oddly one of my all time favorite books. It gels with the "Lord of the Rings meets Charlotte's Web" kind of thing. It's an epic adventure, very serene, classical, mythological, and just does a wonderful job with all of the characters and fantasy tropes converted meaningfully into the animal context.

@@TheDungeonDive personally I loved the heart of glorm mini expansion. Great villian, some cool revelations. Also the last fight is burned into my memory, one of the most epic turns in any dungeon crawl I have played. Let's just say Lily is one of the best characters.

I just bought Aftermath last night and noticed that there must have been a reprint of Mice and Mystics, so I ordered that as well.
Question, have you done a newer video on M&Ms?
I feel like you mentioned in another video that you have since played through the expansions, I'd love to hear your updated feelings, assuming that you have played a lot more since 2019.
Also, you had this in your top ten, maybe thats where I picked up on that.
    Anyhow, would love an update!

My favorite game! I'm happy you're reviewing it. I houserule a lot of things, because a lot of the system is clunky. The artwork just can't be beat honestly. It's perfect.

Destroyaj what are your house rules.

@@TheDungeonDive Oof, this is a doozy. Basically my analysis of the game was that everything is expertly crafted: the storybook, the characters, the items, etc. It just draws you in. Everything, but the rules. In my opinion, the rules are att-odds with what everything in the game is telegraphing: immersion, exploration, adventure. But the game rules don't allow you to carry items between chapters, they punish you for exploring, etc. So I hoped to house-rule things to make it more of an adventure dice-crawl fun-time, rather than "gamey" per se.
