Gosh I miss Paul & Quinns reviewing together, such a great dynamic. Not to say that what you do now isnt great, but I think im starting to get nostalgic. Ahh they were simpler times....
Im probably the board gamer this game would work for. The art style reminds me of the Redwall series which is enough for me to go through the entire game and enjoy it regardless of wether the game was fun or not, and the randomising dungeons and story would have me hooked
But...It's the perfect game to bring the kids to dungeon crawlers and to boardgames at all. My son loves it. The mechanics are easy for him when an adult is with him. The fights are boring for adults but for the little ones....it is perfect
I am glad it worked for you. We had the very opposite experience: the long and repetitive fights and the lack of meaningful choices during the adventure, already boring for adults, showed to be dreadful for kids! Every time a kid tried to have a little fun exploring instead of rolling to fight as quickly as possible, the game punished us and we had to start again the scenario. IMO this is the worst thing for such a game.
This game is for me and my twelve year old, who’s now thirteen. We’re slowly working our way through the three campaigns. He enjoys the stories, the dynamics of the different characters and the familiarity in everything. Also, he has a lot of patience. Doesn’t mean it’s good for other kids. My second son, only two years younger hates it. Absolutely hates it.
Between M&M and Descent, I’d choose Descent every time. HOWEVER Descent is too complicated for my kids (9 and younger) and they love this game. So why would you play this, people ask? My answer to that is, that it is a nice dungeon crawl, that my kids can enjoy and I don’t hate every second I have to spend playing it (unlike with some other games they make me play).
Agreed that the starting over from the beginning is a bear but there is something satisfying about after three restarts having things go my way and knocking out several of the areas in one play through. Played with my ten year old. Rules seem intimidating at first but actually are quite simple. House rule. Subsequent restarts are from where we ended the night before.
Great Review. Have to say, we did enjoy combat. It was fun to combine our abilities and our position on the board. Besides, it's about the story really. We took a year to play the first 'Book' and are now on the expansion. Some rules are tricky but otherwise, LOVE This game. Thank you for your review.
I think you may have missed that this game is aimed at families.... with children. Which makes all its cuteness, straightforwardness and randomness perfectly on target.
So glad someone else feels the same way about this game as me; I was starting to feel crazy when I sold my copy on ebay a few years back, and my gaming group tried to convince me not to.
Fully agree! Been trying to get my niece and nephew into this game and after the 1st chapter they were excited to play the 2nd, but then we failed the 2nd one and they basically lost interest... I should have em play Descent now!
I'm not against houseruling per se - for example house rules transformed Advanced Heroquest into my favourite dungeon-crawler of all time - but with so many well-balanced, polished modern games these days, it's definitely a flaw.
It's easier to play than Dungeons and Dragons and possible to play with young children. The point is that the family plays together against the game. There is no opponent who is bashing your child's mouse character for them to get upset at. So, if you want to play DnD with your kids some day, this is a good way of getting them into the genre in a straightforward and simpler way. Everything is visualized in miniatures and it almost resembles playing action figures with rules. It can give you difficult odds, so you will have to practice and teach what it means to have fun even if you don't win every time. The review finds the combat to be mundane and without tactics. This is not exactly the case. The custom rules for the encounters make for little puzzles that with a little prompting, you can have your children think about how to do the combat to put yourself in a better position. There may be a baddie in the back who will try to get you at a distance, or a sewer river that could sweep you away if you aren't careful while you try to fight cockroaches. They are perfect for children who have emerging strategy skills. It is best to let a child be the leader and suggest where mum and dad should go. The natural progression from this game is the RPG Mouse Guard, which plays like a Mice and Mystics version of DnD. It's out of print with used copies available on ebay occasionally for about the same price as when originally released (I just checked and there are a few copies for about $60). They will probably print another one in the future.
Which dungeon crawler do you recommend for a family? There are several out there aimed at families but I don’t want one that you have just described - too long for kids too boring for parents. Ideas?
Jamie Browning Riehl But the theme of stuffed fables is too scary for kids (all the horrific imagery of missing eyeballs, stitched and injured stuffed animals etc.) I wish stuffed fables was as cute and non scary as M&M.
I thought the reason this review is so late was because M&M was sold out after the kick start and fell into a laboriously long reprint period. It would have gone against their desire to review readily available games if someone lent their copy, as well as receiving review copies from the publisher. But I guess they wanted to give Quinns insomnia.
I highly recommend this game if u want to initiate youngsters to play board games (or table top) because it is easy to learn and tells a great story for children and grown ups who cherrish good storries. Seriosly it is a wonderful game and in my opinion it is much more suited for families or ppl who want to involve kids than any other game out there
I hear Kingdom Death is a good introduction to tabletop board gaming. ....right, I got nothin'. www.shutupandsitdown.com/videos/review-kingdom-death-monster/
Hubby and I are looking for a dungeon crawler to add to our collection and apparently this one is a bit disappointing. Can anyone recommend a dungeon crawler that works well with two players?
Well, My wife and I played a few of the Dungeons and Dragons coop games, they're pretty good. As far as replayability goes, I prefer Wrath of Ashardalon. But Temple of Elemental Evil has the campaign mode if you're looking for a more drawn out experience. They're well put together games.
Do you like story? Then you would probably like this since you like Mouse Guard. Sure there are better dungeon crawlers but I like the story and theme quite a bit. The ongoing story is cool.
Worst learning experience for a board game I've had so far. Spent an entire day trying to decode the rulebook, but I really want to be a mouse with a button shield = SUCKER. Basically, going to write my own rules so I can be mice. Feels like the author's first game and that it was never play tested or proof read. Do us all a favor, pay some teenager a hundred bucks to fix the rulebook over a weekend and give it away as a free PDF.
The game sucks. Got it. No need to be apologetic about it. Enough with the mediocre boardgame "a 6-7 is good" culture. I want to play the best, down with the mediocre rest.
I know this question might seem mean, but it absolutely is NOT meant badly. Please tell me why you have such dark circles under your eyes all the time.
I really like your reviews of Scythe, Container or Time Stories, but then - all of sudden - you don't allow me to subscribe you by spitting an awful joke (top cat)... Ugh... =_= Maybe I'm in minority (even as a lady?), but for me that is like a hairy fly jumping in a cup of tea... =_=

I LOVED REDWALL
THAT WAS THE SHIT
GIVR ME AN OFFICIAL OR FAN GAME ABOUT REDWALL AND IM BUYING THAT SHIT IN AN INSTANT
Redwall was so fucking awesome. That’s pretty much why I plan on purchasing the game.
I give my kid three gems she can spend to reroll all her dice at any point. It definitely improved the game.
But...It's the perfect game to bring the kids to dungeon crawlers and to boardgames at all. My son loves it. The mechanics are easy for him when an adult is with him. The fights are boring for adults but for the little ones....it is perfect

it's average

I really like Matt and the other new people, but I must admit I miss the old Quinns & Paul video chemistry! You guys are always awesome :)
The non-linear timeline of SU&SD made me understand how that chick from Arrival must feel...
I know the game is slow, but if you have a good group who can make quick turns, (and a member who has a good announcer voice), it's a blast.
Great Review. Have to say, we did enjoy combat. It was fun to combine our abilities and our position on the board. Besides, it's about the story really.

Thank you for your review.
I feel like M&M is about 75% of the way to where I want it to be. My 5 year old enjoy it, but only if I signficantly modify it to keep it moving fast.
I think you may have missed that this game is aimed at families.... with children. Which makes all its cuteness, straightforwardness and randomness perfectly on target.
Well, as they mentioned in the review, for children the game may be too slow for them to keep their attention.
they literally addressed exactly that, what are you talking about
Blimey this takes me back! You guys were good back then....and just as good now! 😄
I really enjoyed this game but it does for sure need a bit of house ruling
So glad someone else feels the same way about this game as me; I was starting to feel crazy when I sold my copy on ebay a few years back, and my gaming group tried to convince me not to.
6:19 all THE cochroaches are pointing there butts towards the mice
Thank you for this honest review!! I hate the manual. Not a good game glow. Love the story though! 😅
Fully agree! Been trying to get my niece and nephew into this game and after the 1st chapter they were excited to play the 2nd, but then we failed the 2nd one and they basically lost interest... I should have em play Descent now!
But is it a good game for families and kids?
its quite clearly a fish hook
wait, card sleeves? shut up and sit down used card sleeves? Man, that means something
I think it was a borrowed copy (hence the painted minis). Honestly it's the only reason I can think of they didn't douse it in fondue...
I'm not against houseruling per se - for example house rules transformed Advanced Heroquest into my favourite dungeon-crawler of all time - but with so many well-balanced, polished modern games these days, it's definitely a flaw.
Agreed. I want to love it but I did feel like moving forward fast and rolling dice. Fights were brutal at times also.
It seems like the "point" is a kid-friendly dungeon crawl. Does it deliver on that?
It's easier to play than Dungeons and Dragons and possible to play with young children. The point is that the family plays together against the game. What was the last part yelling for? The bag with a box inside?
Paul had a USB cable coming out of his pant leg -- he was still "part mouse."
One of my favourite games!

Have you played Tail feathers yet?
Personally Im a fan of the alternate version of this game where Vegan Mice take part in unfortunate adventures in : Mice & Missed Steaks.
What good alternatives can you recommend to this game?
Stuffled Fables is better, but I don't know if it's better by enough.
Jamie Browning Riehl But the theme of stuffed fables is too scary for kids (all the horrific imagery of missing eyeballs, stitched and injured stuffed animals etc.)
I wish stuffed fables was as cute and non scary as M&M.
@@camipco Stuffed Fables is shit
0:25 No love for Mag-Blast on SU&SD
Ace Rumble I think id rather play mag blast to mice and mystics
I miss Paul. :(
Don't worry, he is in a better place now (Canada)
Yea, but.... Paul + Quinns was magicaltime. :3 I mean, Matt is awesome, too. But I still miss Paul + Quinns.
For mice or men?
I always love the outfits guys! Great review, keep it up!
Anybody else notice Quinn's awesome Catherine shirt?

These are such compulsive viewing. Just one more...
I miss SU&SD: The Weeb Years.

@Mike Golczynski No, You May Not
Nice. Missed you guys. I had not heard of this game and now I don’t need to
sigh......what was wrong with Mag Blast?
Never forget to Cheese the wheel...
If you like Redwall
This game gives me Redwall vibes.
So are there any games like this that are better? Particularly if I'm interested in getting my nephew involved?
I highly recommend this game if u want to initiate youngsters to play board games (or table top) because it is easy to learn and tells a great story for children and grown ups who cherrish good storries. RowanTarot Try descent or imperial assault
I actually really like it.
Joshua, do you like Mice and Mystics? Because I really like the look of it. I'm a fan of Mouse Guard.
Do you like story? Then you would probably like this since you like Mouse Guard. Sure there are better dungeon crawlers but I like the story and theme quite a bit. The ongoing story is cool.
Super, Ted
It would take something really special to draw me into a Dungeon Crawler board-game. They just seem like narrow variants of Roleplaying games.
Except - Dungeon Crawlers take out all the roleplaying XD
most role-players don't role-play.
I didnt get the joke at the end. Someone care to explain pls?
Paul has a USB wire coming out of his trouser leg. He is still part mouse-with-button.
lol, didnt get that one at all ^^,
Danger Mouse!!!!!
this makes me thimk of rewall
Redwall was such a great series

Full on LOLZ
Without the songs Tolkien's work would be far diminished in it's quality and epicness.
Why are you reposting old videos?
Jake Shepherd I didn't realise. Thank you for telling me.
no "cut the cheese" joke? dissapointed...
Oh no you red herringed me!
