    I always watch an episode or two of the shows I like during lunch and you are right, most of the days I just end up binge-watching about 5 episodes. I have tried using a timer, creating a list etc.. but ended up ditching those habits..time to get back at it...Thanks for the Video man.

    I find myself focusing on things I naturally want to do that I can lose myself in. An example would be I can lose myself for days at a time focusing on machining/fabricating and then assembling custom parts to make watches. That mixed with wanting to sculpt kind of led me to using a more engineering style approach to creating jointed dolls focusing on the mechanisms and shapes trying to replicate life (I have a slight obsession with automatons and clockwork dolls...I've also been obsessed with Ghost in the Shell since the 95 film so it kind of adds up). With that I spent hundreds of hours learning how to hand make clothing, accessories, etc to create something I felt accomplished my goal.
    If it isn't one of my obsessions I just have to force myself to do it which is nigh impossible. Not impossible though, just a very very long process since I find it extremely hard to focus on other things.

    good tips overall! if you have adhd like me, though, you may find that you paradoxically need a little bit of distraction while you work to keep from getting so understimulated that you let yourself get completely off track. doing things like working on voice calls with my friends or listening to a podcast might keep me from having absolute undivided attention on my work, but it also keeps me from taking a break to look at social media or check my messages and completely derail from my task. that kind of total laser focus yan describes may not work for you, so you might need to find a compromise for yourself.

      I have ADHD as well, pretty severe too. I usually put on a playlist of music when I want to get some work done, like writing chapters for stories or creating sketches of new characters haha

    • @space_ace456
      @space_ace456 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      same here, I need background noise to keep my focus so I don't get constantly distracted by all of the things around me, so if I have a TH-cam video playing in the background it's just there for the noise and stimuli so I can focus on my work. I think a lot of non-adhd people don't quite understand that and think I'm using TH-cam to distract me from my work when I'm really using it to help me focus

    I love it when my fave artists gives advise,another piece of advise i would give is bite sized project learning,its when you take that grand idea you want to make,break it up and watch tutorials for each individual component while working on a mini project that isn't the main eg want to you make a giant robot,break it up,learn hardsuface modeling and make an arm,then when thats done,do another mini project and push it a step further eg make a hardsuface leg,then texture it.To me whats important in art is showing something in the end and i find with project based learning instead of having 1 big project you have multiple pieces to show and they help show your progress as an artist

    hope this helps people, would love to see more 3D art than now, i thought i was being lazy some years ago, turns out i wasn't eating well and not nearly enough to stay active, began drinking and eating more, now i model and sculpt every single day, at least 3 hours per day, sometimes all day long when i have a free day.
    I completely agree with placing timers, for practice it is essential to differentiate what you're working on, obsessing on a single thing kills off your process, or rather, slows it down a lot.

    Interesting topic. I find that almost all of the time what causes me to break habits is external events. For example, when family or friends out of state come over for a week or when there is a deadline crunch at work that makes you work major overtime hours for a week.

    Last year I drew something every day. I knew that this would create a habit of drawing more often, but what I didn't know was that it would fuse the ins and outs of the program I use into my BONES. And that after 2019 was over, and I didn't have any restrictions, or even expectations in place, that I would get a years worth of pent up creativity bursting through me.
    10/10 do reccomend.

    on the topic of habit formation. I turned around my eating habits by being really extreme, no more eating out, taking food matters into my own hands, only getting the healthy choices, which at first was very challenging. I craved so hard for the bad stuff and eventually I slipped up and like YanSculpts said in the video, one slip up can cause a lot of trouble. So my Skillset wasn't really adapted to constrain myself for an extended period but I found, what is considered to be the hard part, the easiest. By repeating to get rid of my bad habit frequently, it eventually got my norm and I am now in a place, where I rarely eat out, not even wanting to. It was the starting over again, repeatedly, which helped me a great deal in forming this habit.
    The gist is that you should not be afraid of not nailing anything the first time around but to not start over again. You'd be surprised what your body really remembers in the long run.

    Gonna watch in a moment, after I went out with the dog. Yan you're a big inspiration for me and helped me find my goals for Blender and 3D in general.
    Thank you!
    Edit:
    The most important thing in the video and what you also very often talk about is habits. It is true what you said, habits in the first place are the things that makes me lazy. For example skipping a homework because it is "just" 5% of my final grade and it is very annoying to do. Or instead of getting right back to working on something I take my phone to the toilet and read for 30 minutes and more.
    There are even more harmful habits. I didn't like brushing my teeth for over 10 years and now I can't always get myself to do it and they are very yellow. One tooth of mine is basically just filling and it can't be changed.
    There are so many more I could talk about, but I think you get the gist.
    The difficulty now is, breaking the lazy habits to replace them with productive habits. You will ALWAYS feel like "Ahh come on I can just skip today" or "I'll just do it later, the story is too good right now to stop reading". We need to overcome this.
    The timer is a very very good idea, I always set 30 minute timers with 10 minute breaks because my ADD just always gets me after some time. And you also need to listen to the timer I think, because even if you're in a flow right now, after a short time you can get distracted again very easily, maybe you suddenly see a cool video on YT or someone messages you on discord. Keep that for the break.
    Thank you so much Yan. You're always very helpful and I can't thank you enough!

    How do you do the rigging so easily? I have a lot of hard time with that part after the sculpting/modelling. Do you have a tutorial specifically on rigging?

    • @Darkrikou62
      @Darkrikou62 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm too curious about this, I tough it was impossible to rig a sculpted character. When I try I got a lot of errors and in the end it's not possible. I see in the videos that he don't use dyntopology, it may be because of that. If you don't use dyntopo and start with a lot of subdivision sheres may be the rigging will be ok. I'll try, i'll see!

    • @pieterdebie4162
      @pieterdebie4162 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iirc, you need a good topology with quads for rigging & posing. Dyntopo doesn't care about that so you may be right about that. However, remeshing your sculpt afterwards may fix this

    One of the ways I managed to get myself to work was basically to make others force me to do something, or to put myself in a situation where I can't step back and say "meh, I'll do that later".
    As an example, I worked with a friend of mine on an arts class subject, which was to create a short which could be made with whatever techniques we wanted, whether it was a simple slideshow of drawings, some traditional animation, whatever. With my friend, we said "fu*k it, let's make something in 3D with Blender".
    We both never had classes of 3D whatsoever, we only used Blender for small projects, and we threw ourselves into making a full-fledged 3D animated short movie.
    As stupid as this sounded, we actually managed to make a decent-looking, 10-minutes long movie and successfully finish it on time (we had quite a struggle towards the end though), and I realized that once I'm into something, I can deliver things I never knew I could achieve.
    Of course it was a billion miles away from a Pixar movie, but damn we were proud of our thing.

    That means between midnight one night and the midnight of the next, I have to have spent some time drawing on my tablet. Even if it's just a few minutes.
    The sketchbook doesn't count. 3d stuff in Blender doesn't.
    What I want is to in the back of my head be asking myself if I've drawn today. It's already yielding benefits.

    Laziness is not a bad thing, depends on how you use it, use it to your advantage. I am lazy, that make me look for the easiest and fastest ways to do things, I use it to evolve my workflow, skills, programs, etc. That helped me do thing more efficient than others and I get more work done, special with programming, but helps also with digital art and 3d projects.

    I usually don't "quit" things so much as I skip a day...then another. And then it's been a month and I no longer do that thing I used to.

    For me personally, my method is to dedicate like 15 or 30 minutes to the habit everyday, and everyone I don’t feel like doing it, I will just tell myself “Come on it’s only 15 minutes surely you can dedicate at least that much to something”. Though I’m still trying to perfect on this.

    I think what's holding me back and leads me to procrastination is that I get frustrated of what art style i wanna push. Like i wanted to try all these things but never really turned out the way i wanted to and it frustrates me. I wanted to have my own art style but i don't know where to start. Any advice on that? Thank you for your commentary. I really am a lazy artist ;(
